C9 Secret unveiled

The night air was thick with tension. Amelia clung to Adrian, her fingers gripping his jacket as if it were the only thing keeping her grounded.

The shadow from before didn’t move—but its presence pressed down on them like a weight. Adrian’s eyes narrowed, scanning every corner, every flicker of light. “Stay close,” he whispered. “I won’t let anything happen to you.”

Amelia swallowed hard, feeling the warmth of his chest against her cheek, the thrum of his heartbeat through his body. Fear and desire twisted inside her in a way that made her head spin.

Suddenly, a soft voice broke the silence. “You think you can hide from the past?”

Amelia’s eyes widened. The voice was familiar—hauntingly familiar. She turned slightly, but Adrian held her tighter, protective and unyielding.

“Who is it?” she demanded, her voice trembling despite her courage.

Adrian’s jaw clenched. “Someone who knows too much… someone we thought we left behind.”

A figure stepped from the shadows, and Amelia froze. Memories she had tried to bury for years surged to the surface.

It was Marcus—a man from her past she had hoped never to see again. His presence alone sent chills down her spine.

“Amelia,” Marcus said softly, almost a whisper, “we need to talk. Now.”

Adrian’s hand tightened on her waist. “Not while I’m here,” he growled. His eyes were dark, dangerous, protective. “You don’t touch her.”

Marcus didn’t flinch. “I’m not here to fight, Adrian. I’m here to warn her… and you. Things are far worse than you realize.”

Amelia’s heart raced. Worse than this? She had been through enough—years of heartache, Adrian’s sudden disappearance, Lena, and now this?

“What do you mean?” she asked, voice barely audible.

Marcus glanced at Adrian, then back at her. “There are people from your past who never forgot… who’ve been waiting. Waiting for the right moment. And that moment… is now.”

Adrian’s eyes flashed, anger and fear mixing in a dangerous cocktail. “You’re lying. Or exaggerating. We handle this my way.”

Marcus shook his head. “No. You don’t understand. This isn’t about control. It’s about survival. Amelia… you’re in deeper than you think.”

Amelia felt her stomach twist. She had always believed she could face anything, but now? Now, with Adrian pressed against her, heart racing, eyes like molten steel, she realized… she was terrified.

But a small, defiant part of her burned bright. She would not be a victim. Not again. Not ever.

Adrian sensed it. His eyes softened slightly on her. “We’ll face it together,” he said, voice low, possessive, unwavering.

Her pulse leapt. Together. That word, that promise… it ignited something she couldn’t deny.

Suddenly, a faint noise behind them—a door creaking, footsteps approaching—snapped them both to attention.

Adrian pulled her closer, lips brushing her temple. “Stay with me,” he whispered.

Amelia’s breath caught. She did.

And as the shadows moved closer, she realized one terrifying truth: her past wasn’t done with her.

And neither was Adrian.
