C10 At the mall

Freya’s Pov

We arrived at the mall and I was surprised that I was still in one piece. No bone broken, no injuries and no one was reported, ‘anyone’ would have been me though.

Halfway into the mall I recalled something very important. Credit card. How were we going to pay for the stuff?

Noticing that I stopped halfway, Racheal turned to me and gave me the look of ‘why did you stop?’

“We don’t have a credit card, how are we going to pay?” At my question she let out a hysterical laugh.

“You did not think of this at home!” She almost yelled.

Her reaction got me panicking. I totally forgot and since Artemis was in a bad mood, I didn’t dare mutter up the courage to ask. Now we had to return without shopping.

A wave of disappointment crashed into me. Why was I always so careless and always never paid attention to the little things that matters.

All of a sudden she let out a shrieking sound that instantly snapped my head to her direction. She was laughing hard, stomping her foot and at the same time hitting her leg with her hand as she did this. She clutched her stomach and laughed pointing at me.

I looked skeptical at her. What the fuck was wrong with her? Did she have any mental illness that I did not know about?

She obviously wouldn’t disclose such personal details since we only just met and we weren’t friends. Still I felt the right to know she was a crazy lunatic.

“Are you okay?” No response.

“Racheal? Are you okay?” Still no answer.

“You…you should have seen… the look on your face. It was priceless,” she said while still laughing like a maniac.

“Wait, what?”

Realisation slowly crawled into me. She can’t… she can’t be serious? She definitely can’t.

I tilted my head to the side, my eyes half closed, my brows furrowed as I stared at her, trying to apprehend what was happening. What felt like a joke. She on the other hand laughed even more. It was more like my confusion, or rather my comprehension was hilarious to her.

When it finally sunk I dashed forward at her, “you little witch!”

She was quick to run, laughing even harder. I found myself chuckling inwardly also at my lack of wit.

She raised out the black card to me. “Let’s go shopping.”

In one moment she had on her stoic face, walking like she wasn’t one crazy lunatic some few moments ago.

I held myself back from voicing wow.’

We walked into the mall. “Wow,” I voiced out in the most uncultured way. I let my surprise and amazement be visible through my words. That earned so disgusted stares my way but I didn’t care. Who gives a fuck? No one.

She stopped and looked at me questionably and I mouthed “what?” With my whole face.

She grabbed me by the wrist and dragged me off to a corner. She let go in the most disgusted manner.

“What the hell? Why did you drag me off in such a manner?” I queried rubbing my hand.

She snarled at me and rolled her eyes. There! Her true colour, finally!

“Who are you?” She asked. I couldn’t dictate with which tone she used because she was calm and patiently waiting for my answer.

“I’m Freya…” I paused to think, “Demitri, Freya Demitri.”

“No, you’re not that, you’re Freya Artemis. You are his mate which makes you his Luna, our Luna and you must uphold yourself in that image. Act like it,” she spelt out.

I had been so stupid. So stupid to see what’s in front of me. Flabbergasted was how I stared at her. She wasn’t an enemy or a foe, she was a friend.

She was a friend I needed in this foreign pack and she was right. Now I understood the look of disgust she sent my way.

“Alpha Artemis has the biggest pack recorded. Unless you don’t want those little bitches he sleeps around to question you and his choice, I say ‘it’s time to step up.”

On a thin line, on the tiniest thin line I stood, the smallest of restraints that I had left in me that was stopping me from hugging the hell out of her.

A sigh of relief left me when I realised that I could trust her. It seemed as if a big load had been removed from my back. I felt free and felt the energy pulsating inside of me. I was free.

“Do you understand?” She asked, again waiting for my response.

“I do,” my reply was accompanied with a head nod.

“Now…” she turned to the store, “to what matters,” and the smile was back on her face. I chuckled lightly and followed her.

“First thing, what’s your colour?” She asked.

That was a difficult one because I considered myself as one of those persons who did not have a favourite or best thing. If it’s beautiful then I’m surely taking it. That was me.

“Umm…I don’t have a favourite colour?” What was meant to be a statement posed out as a question rather.

A look of disappointment flashed on her face before she turned and muttered “that makes it even more better, doesn’t it?”

I nodded unsure. I didn’t like that I was Indecisive,. It was worrisome most times.

“You just sit here and wait let me select the clothes for you,” as she said these, joy seeped into every letter. I could tell that she very much enjoyed ‘dressing up’

Immediately she left, the feeling of being watched returned again. Call me paranoid but this was freaking me out. I did not want to be one of those white foolish kids in horror movies so I stood up and had a look around.

My effort, of course is of no use because the creeping feelings persisted.

After a long look around, I went back to my spot and found Racheal looking scared.

“What happened?” I quickly rushed over to her.

“Where were you? You got me scared, you don’t have a cell phone and none of the staff admitted to seeing you!!” She explained with her breathing becoming rapid.

“I did not go far, it’s nothing to worry about,” I cooed.

“Artemis would have my head if anything is to happen to you,” she said, still in fear.

“I’m sorry, I’m okay.”

“Here size this on,” she pushed a rack of clothes on hangers my way.

I grabbed a black gown, “how does it look?”

“Beautiful,” her attention was divided as she kept looking back and forth.

I wore some more clothes, they were beautiful.

“It’s getting late..” she noticed. “Let’s get home.”

All the dresses I sized were beautiful, we picked them and at the same time took clothes that we didn’t need.

She was in a hurry and somehow her fear had gradually infected me. I’d always felt followed, her fears now confirmed my suspicion. Someone was obviously following but I didn’t dare tell her. It would make her panic more.

I, on the other hand, was sweating. What if I was really in danger? Artemis of course had many enemies and they won’t hesitate to strike should they find out his weakness.

I was finally grasping the depth of my status. I couldn’t slack.
