C27 The invite

Freya’s Pov

She was frozen for a long beat before she resumed brushing my hair towards herself. Her eyes were focused on my hair but her mind I could see from her eyes was somewhere else.

“You know him,” it was a statement not a question. With the way her body went rigid prior to his name there was no denying it. She knew I caught her and there was no way she could lie now.

She sighed, “it’s not like I know him personally, just if you’re new to the Waterfall pack his name brought the chill and no one spoke of him. It was as though he was a ghost in the land of the living because he very much had a great impact in this halls and block,” she answered truthfully. It was true. It occurred to me that he was known by many but spoken by few.

She continued on my hair. “Did he react positively or negatively when you said the name,” Racheal asked. I felt her avoiding the name tentatively.

“He didn’t say anything. He just moved to the next question,” I told her.

The fact that strangers knew more of my father than I did ached me. I could be a pawn in a big fight or game. But there was also a saying that goes, leave the unknown to the unknown.

Okay, I don’t think anyone said that but there was a comfort in being clueless. Being ignorant sometimes was easy but I knew I was no coward, I didn’t chicken out in front of a crisis and I was definitely not going to in this one.

“How do you feel about curling the tips of your hair?” Racheal asked. She took a few numbered steps backwards, her hand came up to her chin and she did like she was rubbing her invisible beards.

“Hmmm…” she dragged in deep thoughts.

“What about bangs?” She asked and I let out a sharp, “yes!” But she did not answer me. She was in a deep thought and conversation with herself than me. Her position was altered quickly as she moved to me and held my cheek in her palm inspecting me.

“You’re going out today,” she muttered.

“What? Excuse me when?” I asked.

“Oh in the next one hour,” she replied absentmindedly.

When I meant ‘when’ I was asking ‘since when did I get this invitation, that I knew nothing of not until five seconds ago.’

“This outing, when was it fixed, am I that useless that they think I could just show up to a place any time?!” My voice gained ground.

“My bad—“ Racheal said with a sorry face moving back.

“Racheal???” I called warningly

“The invitation came in yesterday but you were so busy and I didn’t get a chance to tell you,” she rushed.

“I’m not going,” I said firmly.

“Oh but you have to, it’s an art gallery that’s opening in the pack. The owner wanted the Luna present at the opening,” Racheal explained, fumbling with her nails.

“It would look bad if you don’t show up,” she said with one eye closed, peering at me from the opened one with a pleading look.

“Is the alpha aware?” I asked applying a nude coloured lipstick. My eyes were solely on the mirror but I could see her reflection.

“I’ll let him know,” she said with lips zipped into a thin line.

“Racheal!” I called.

“I’m sorry, I forgot,” she cried out.

“What am I going to wear?” I asked in a panicked tone.

“Don’t worry I’ve got that covered,” she sang.

She poked her head out of the closet and clapped, “ladies!!” And maids came running in with different boxes.

“Do you trust me?” She asked with a smile.

“Am I crazy?” I asked with my whole face.

“Yes,” she said with a smile.

They placed the boxes on the cabinets in my closet and began unboxing. There were a lot of boxes. Racheal was by my side in no time. She pushed me to a chair, away from the mirror and I grumbled.

“I have to know what you’re doing to my face,” I told her.

She lunged forward, “That would ruin the magic,” she told me and patted me. I rolled my eyes. This was going to be a long day.

Maids were immediately on their knees brushing my toes, a posse of maid by my hand side while Racheal handled my hair and makeup. My hair was wrapped in a white towel in the meantime Racheal took my face as her priority.

She set the makeup box on the table and she started picking out different items. The eye pencil, mascara, powder, my skin type, makeup spray and the rest I could no longer see when she tilted my head to face up.

Drawings were mapped on my face, powder was applied. When I scrunch my nose in disgust as a result of the powder getting into my nose. She smacked me by the laps. “Smile!” She said firmly and I obliged.

After some minutes of torture Racheal let lose my hair. Hot iron was brought to my hair and in just a close minute Racheal was done. She dragged my chair to the mirror and my jaw dropped.

I was like a fish, mouth jawed and eyes open. I was gaping at the masterpiece done on my face. I looked stunning. The makeup was light and accentuated my green eyes and face.

“Ohh Racheal..” I said dreamily.

She beamed with joy, smiling at her hand work equally impressed.

“You look like a star,” one of the maids complimented.

“Not a star more like an angel,” another added.

The blood in my body gathered in part of my body which was my cheeks. It was hot and I felt my cheek twinge.

My hair… Oh, the hair was a totally different thing. It was moved to my right, a glittering pin on the hair holding it in one place. Then the tip of the hair curled and bounced by my side.

“You truly are a Luna material,” one of the maids said beaming with pure ecstasy taking me in.

“You have outdone yourself this time,” an unfamiliar voice said.

We all turned to the door and found none other than Loretta standing by the threshold. I rolled my eyes immediately. Her appearance made me want to puke.

Racheal came out and derided.

“If it isn’t the one who cries, ‘notice me,’” Racheal bit. Loretta rolled her eyes and flipped her hair.

“The alpha is waiting for you,” Loretta told us. I and Racheal mirrored our expressions, confused.

Why was he waiting? Just in time to voice my question the bitch had dragged her perfect ass out.

Racheal did like she was chanting an incantation to cleanse the place of Loretta's’ bad energy. When she was satisfied and sure that she had rid the room of the negative energy she turned to me and smiled. She unboxed my dress and handed it over to me.

The navy blue was cool in the hand. I quickly wiggled my body into the blue body-com dress. When I successfully wore the dress, after hours of struggle I smiled in victory.

The clothes hugged my body like a second skin. It was long and overflowing. A transparent heel was placed at my feet and I slid my legs into it. My height was immediately topped.

I stood in front of the mirror and gushed at my reflection. A long dress, sleeve. It brought out the curves of my body. I was more slim-thick and I definitely was rocking that figure.

Smiling, I blew a kiss at every single person that had helped me incorporate my dress in such a short while.

“You really did do magic,” I told Rachel.

“The pleasure is mine, my queen,” she said and bowed, making us all laugh. The maids left a few moments later and I was left with Racheal.

“Necklace!”she proclaimed.

“No need to worry, I have one here, I never take it off,” I told her, rubbing the necklace absentmindedly.

“It’s beautiful,” she complimented.

“Did you know how you came to have it?” She asked.

“I don’t know but it’s the only thing I remembered from my original pack,” I held it out inspecting it. I ran my hand around it, feeling it. I held it in my palm and squeezed it tight to my chest. It brought a sense of relief and belonging.

We walked out of the closet and breathed out. Entering the room I saw my mate standing by the door cladded in black tuxedo. He looked charming, his hair styled with gel.

“What’s happening?” I asked, confused and smiling. Racheal laughed beside me.

“Surprise!!! You and he are going for the art gallery opening,” she told me.

My lips cracked into a smile and I walked carefully into my mates arms. My mate.

“You look exquisite,” he said, not taking his eyes away from me and I smiled a thank you.

We walked out in each other’s arms. I hope this moment were more, I wasn’t sure of anything now, I’ll soon be stepping into the unknown. Whatever it may be, I Freya Demitri would find the truth.
