C39 Chameleon Loretta

Freya's pov

“Let's go up to my room, okay? Come,” I said as I supported her up. My hands came up and wiped her cheeks and her eyes, I repeated the same action with my clothes.

“Come lets go,” I supported her and we walked out of the library with my arm around her waist. When we got to the open Hall where servants were posted, she let go, damp her eyes and put on a straight face. She brushed her hair back with her hands and then went to walk like she was on a runway.

I stood perplexed for a moment, staring at her runway walk. Was this the girl who was just crying for her deceased father not too long ago?

Shaking my head and rubbing my eyes, I went after her. She was some serious psycho. I had to be careful with her.

Arriving into the elevator, she just stared ahead and didn't say one single word to me. Wow. I kept looking at her, trying to decipher the abrupt need to be a celebrity in front of the camera.

The sound of the elevator chiming open had her walking out, again she didn't pay attention to me. Then it occurred to me, was she ashamed of me? What the hell! That b***ch

Loretta stood in front of my door as I arrived, I took one last look at her and punched the password, turned the cold spheroidal door holder, and pushed the door open. I walked in then she followed behind me. Immediately the door shut behind her she dropped down to the ground crying.

I bent down again and held her, with my support, I moved her to the bed. She took my throw pillow on the bed and continued crying. I didn't know what to say, what could I possibly say that would cheer her up. Nothing I could say that would bring back her father.

In the video, he apologized for being such a bad father to her, for always comparing her and lashing out on her.

If my father were alive, would he do the same thing, would he compare me to others and constantly put me down?

I wouldn't know. He was dead.

“I think he died in this pack,” she said out of the blue.

“What? What do you mean? You can't possibly think that can you? I mean why would a pack member kill his fellow pack member?” I asked stupidly. It was only when the question left my mouth that I knew, that it was a foolish question.

“Freya, just because we are one pack does not mean that nobody is plotting one another's downfall. We have more enemies within than outside,” she explained to me.

“So who do you think?” I inquired.

“His business partners perhaps, my father wasn't a good man, he wasn't the hero. I feel like he has pissed someone off that made the person take his life. And I know without an inkling of doubt that it's in this pack,” she said confidently.

“Then if what you said is true, you must be on the lookout, your father's killer might be out there, plotting your demise also. You need protection and help,” I told her.

I thought to what she said earlier, my father's killer could possibly be in this pack.

Oh my gosh!! Oh my gosh. My stalker… my stalker. What if he is the one that killed my father and he has come to kill me too, to complete what he started? I've been looking at this all wrong. I have been thinking that my stalker was after me because of my position as Luna. I have missed the big picture. He's after me to kill me because then I'd discover who killed my father and he would be bursted. Damn it Freya! How can you miss such an important ——

The snapping of hands joggled me back to my environment, “Earth to Loretta, hello!” she waved in front of me, startling me.

“Yes yes yes,” I said.

“Did you hear what I said?” Loretta asked.

“What? W…hat? Umm,”

“I said, I would tell Artemis. He's your mate so I was taking permission, is that okay with you?” she repeated.

“Oh yes— yes,” I answered accompanied with the jerking of my head.

Some days ago, it would have bothered me that Loretta was going to speak to Artemis in private but now, I was encouraging it.

“Yes I think you should tell him, he could offer you protection and even go as far as finding the culprit,” I said to her. With her tear stained face, she cracked into a smile. At least I made her smile amidst all the hiccups, no, this was more than a hiccup. This was a disaster.

“You think?” she asked hopefully.

My smile widened into a yes and she crashed into my arms. Still not used to the hugging, my hands came up stiffly and enveloped her.

The same thing was applicable to me, I had to tell Artemis of my stalker. He would protect me and may also discover the culprit. When he's caught, I would have numerous questions for him.

“When we find the culprit responsible for your father's death, you will do whatever the hell you want to do with him,” I assured her.

“I can't believe my father is dead Frey, I can't,” she said amidst tears. She began crying again.

“It's okay, it's okay, everything would be alright, I got you,” I cooed in her ears while patting her softly.

“You are so sweet Frey, I can't believe I was so mean to you,” she inhaled on my shoulder.

“Well I can't believe so either, but here we are,” I said. The hug was taking quite a while, I was getting uncomfortable. Gradually I pulled back from the hug.

“Let me get the staff to bring something for you, something to eat, yeah?” I was standing up and I pulled at the hem of my dress, smoothing it over. She nodded in agreement.

“I'll be right back,” I said one last time and walked towards the door.

The moment I was out, my face quickly turned sour. Merona was in the hallway. Argh!!

“Well well well,” she sang and approached me, “if it isn't the selfish entitled brat,” she said, eyeing me.

“Funny because I was about to say the same thing,” I retorted.

She scoffed, “you think you are so above it all? Yeah?”

I kept mute and just continued down my path. I was gonna be Luna and exchanging words with my subjects wasn't stated as one of my duty.

“Yeah, that's right. Just keep going, you don't care for no one but yourself. You are just selfish and a nobody and the only important thing in your life is Artemis!!” she shouted out to me.

I desperately wanted to reply to her, but for now, my mind was occupied with lots of pressing issues, one of them in my room. And I for one didn't tag her as the talkative type, but once again I was wrong in my character judgment.

My journey was cut short when I saw the staff already coming up with food to my room. On my way back to my room I spotted Oslo.

“Hello,” I waved at him. He had a serious expression, but the moment he saw me, his face lightened up.

“Where have you been?” he asked, chasing after me.

“In my room, why?” I asked, when he reached where I stood.

“Training?!” he raised his eyebrows in a quizzical manner.

“I was just taking a break,” I pouted.

“Well break over, meet me at the gym, we have business to tend to,” he said and I put on a long face.

“Okay,” I replied with a sad face.

“Okay then,” he said and walked away.

Hmmm

The maids were by my side. I opened the door and I entered inside, I was welcomed by an empty room. Weird.

“Loretta! Loretta, are you there?” I said into the vacant room.

“Yes,” she answered and walked out looking all glamorous and all. I arched my eyebrows at her. Seriously?

“You can leave now,” she said to the staff who had just finished placing the food on the vacant table. They pushed the tray back, not without sending a dagger at Loretta with their eyes. She had on a fur material wrapped around her neck, immediately they left, she untied it and threw it on the bed. Her sad demeanor was back.

“What was that?” I asked, trying to hide the irritation in my voice as I strolled further into my room.

She heaved, “when once you are a princess, a girl like me and you that people hate and admire at the same time, you never let you mask slip. You must never let them see you cry or sweat. Even if a tornado of disaster is crashing down on you, you must always… I mean always have on your game face. Poker on at all times,” she explained and sat on the vacant seat.

“Why?” I asked, taking a seat on the empty chair. I have heard this before, Racheal was the first person to tell me that but it still didn't kill my curiosity.

“They hate and admire you at once. Simple, they want to be like you but at the same time, They want to see you fall, so you must never give them what they want. Your smile kills them. You must wear that smile at all times. If they see you fall? They will relish that moment. And as you must know they hate me as much as they admire me,” she said and stood up.

“Aren't you eating?”

“I lost my appetite, I have to tell my brother of his death,” she said, pulling out her phone. That was new, I didn't know she had a brother.

Her speech made much sense, I finally understood it now from both angles, for the pack, and for the haters, always having a poker face was paramount. That was like dying slowly inside.

“Based on your ideology, you should eat so that you don't lose weight and they know something is up,” I said, this seemed to get to her, so she turned back and took her seat.

“You are such a sweet soul Frey, you are going to be the best thing in this pack,” she appraised and I blushed from embarrassment. She giggled, “your face is red,” she pointed out.

“For your own good, don't be as sweet as Artemis' mother. It would kill you. Be half Angel and half demon. The court is a very dangerous place,” she told me. I paused on my steak that I was cutting and stared fish eyed at her.

“I was thinking…. Can you be my chaperone when I was going to speak to Artemis. I need some sort of support. And your aura is very calm and soothing,” she begged and pouted. That was the very first time I saw her acting cute.

“Please.. Please,” she persisted.

“Okay, I will, now eat,” I said and a broad smile spread all over her lips as she wrapped me into a hug again!

Oh boy.
