C41 Seeking Alpha's protection
Artemis pov
The Moon goddess was definitely out to get me, she was bent on making sure she punished me. When did Loretta and Freya suddenly become friends, holding hands and coming into my office together?
Loretta was a little hesitant but Frey held her hand and assured her. They were like each other's support. Just how busy had I been?
They wanted to speak to me alone, Iris took a quick peek at me before he walked out. They saw themselves in a vacant seat in front of me. They took one last glance at each other as they braced themselves to come out to me.
“Loretta's father is dead,” Freya announced briefly.
Shit!
I heard my conscience laugh at me from the back of my mind, howling and screaming out in mockery of how he warned me. It came back to bite me.
“Artemis?” Freya called carefully, I jerked discreetly as I turned my attention back to her.
“I heard, I'm listening. Anyway, how do you know about it?” I asked slowly.
“We have the video,” Loretta said, if she saw the video, did that mean?—-
“I saw it too, it isn't a lie. Here we can show you,” Freya said and prodded Loretta to bring out the video.
My game had actually caught up to me.
His death was the only death I didn't record in my book. I did not see the need to and it was because of Freya that I didn't record it. It wasn't as gruesome and my signature mark was not on it.
Loretta pulled out her phone that was unnecessarily covered in a red pouch, she played it and handed it over to me. I didn't need to watch it, I was there when it happened. I just took a glance and handed it back to her.
“Do you have an idea of whom it may be?” I asked her,
“No,” she replied with disappointment.
“Do you want to find the person? The person responsible?” I looked at her tentatively
“No,” she replied making Freya to whip her neck and face her.
“No? No? Why? Common you are not serious, she not serious,” Freya said to me, her neck snapping from I to Loretta.
“Tell him you are not serious,” Freya said placing her hand on Loretta's shoulder in a compelling manner.
Loretta was quiet for long while which made Freya speak up, “she said, she suspected that it was someone from the court,” Freya said. I adjusted on my seat.
I felt bad. Ajax had stayed in the dungeon for a long time and all the while I had been stalling his death once when I finally decided to get rid of the pain in my ass, his daughter swiped in and suddenly became friends with my mate, the only person I had ever wanted to change for, to impress.
If I could, I would go back in time and correct my mistake, I would be very good to Freya. She looked hurt, more hurt than Loretta, it was as though she felt her pain and carried the weight of her burden on her shoulder.
That's because she's a Luna
I was sad, broken, frustrated, angry and proud. I was proud of my mate for being such an iconic Luna. She was an angel and it was no argument that I was the devil and even more reason why I would never let her go.
She completed me, she was the light in my dark world and heart, she brought the light and shattered all the demons that lurked around. How could I ever let such a soul slip away? Fuck what everyone thought or wanted, Battle or no battle she was going to be my Luna.
“I don't want to do it, Frey, I don't want to meet the man responsible. Father wasn't a righteous man——”
“Righteous man or not, everyone deserves the right to life, to change and no one was high enough to judge another,” Freya said angrily, “he was your father, and he treated you badly, you didn't kill him, if anyone had a right to, it should be you, but you didn't, if anything you loved him and for you he deserves to be alive to see the strong beautiful woman you'll become. That's why I'm so angry that he would never get to see that,” Freya pushed back the chair, standing to her feet. She paced the open area in the office furiously.
Loretta stood up and went to her, she wrapped her hand around her and sniffed.
Don't tell me they are about to cry. I hate crying women. It picks and crawls on my skin.
“Oh, Freya, I'm so glad I met you, I will make you see the kind of woman I become, I will make you proud in place of my father,” she guaranteed her, hugging her again.
“Enough about me, now tell Artemis of your stalker,” she said much to my amazement. Freya had a stalker? And she didn't tell me about it.
Exhaling, she returned to her retired position, which was in the black leather chair in front of me.
“Frey,” I called deliberately, observing her as she sank into the chair.
“You have a stalker?” I asked, the pain and disappointment letting themselves in uninvited. How could she hide something that vital from me?
She looked sad and gloomy, “I never intended not to tell you,” she spoke out, her gaze cast downwards, avoiding my penetrating eyes.
“So why did you?” I could not help the temperature that my voice dropped. It was icy and cold.
“Because I wanted to handle it myself, I thought I could. I mean what was the essence of being a Luna if I always have to come running to you?” she asked. Her gaze came back up and met mine.
Damn, those beautiful green eyes.
They were beautiful and captivating. They were green like the forest and I could get lost in them. I understand her very well but that still didn't justify the fact that she was endangering herself. And not to sum it up, she told Loretta but not her mate? It made me again guess just how close they had gotten.
“I'm your mate, Frey, your alpha, I want you to come running to me every damn time,” I told her. We were lost in each other's gaze, communicating and erupting sparks in our proximity.
She cleared her throat, “you would get tired, trust me, and besides I should learn how to slay my own dragons,” she prodded. Her gaze still poring into mine.
“Freya,” I called, “I want to slay your dragons, I want you to run into my arms for safety.”
“Why,” she couldn't help but ask.
“Because to everyone, I'm the villain, I want to be the hero once, for you Freya,” I confessed. However, if you learn what I have done, you may join them. That scared me, losing you scared me.
Subsequent to my words, she went dumb, bereft of words.
“Oh, are you guys in love,” Loretta sang, breaking the trance we were in.
Freya squinted her eyes, robbed her neck, and licked her lips to moisture it. All those made my dick twitch.
“Stop, Freya,” and she immediately composed herself. I clenched and unclenched my fist, desperate to draw back my brain and dick from the direction it was going.
“Frey, come to me anytime, and I will accept you anytime. I take care of an entire pack and then I would get tired when it comes to you? Never!” I was been possessive and dominant but I didn't give a fuck about that.
“And heaven helps that we don't catch the stalker that thought it wise to go after my mate. He would regret the day he saw the first light,” my words held promise to them. I saw her shiver just by my tone.
“Oslo will be by your side often, and I will get Iris to look into it,” I told her, I had no doubt who it was and where they were from. They should just wait patiently, she was going to be their leader soon enough.
“I don't want a babysitter Artemis. Besides, I haven't seen him ever since,” she tried to talk me out of it.
“Think of him as a guard rather than a babysitter,” I spoke.
“Your Life could be in danger Freya, I'm afraid he has a point,” Loretta chimed in.
Freya rolled her eyes, “I know——”
“When did this start?” I asked, eyeing Freya,
“During the training in the field,” she said. I remembered finding her in the woods that day, lost in the training grounds….
“You told me that——-wait you lied?” I was angry now. Loretta turned to her, equally surprised.
“I didn't think you would believe me,” she said, her lips immediately pressed into a thin line.
“Why wouldn't ——-”
“I'm sorry Artemis, I'll let Oslo follow me around, even to the bathroom,”
Immediately she said that I snarled, she wouldn't think such with another male Wolf. I was going to mark her soon and have my sent all over her. She rolled her eyes. If only she knew how damn sexy she looked when she was acting all angry. I chuckled.
“While you are at that, could you make provision for Loretta's safety, she needs it more than I do,” Freya said.
“That's fair, but don't play down on safety Frey. Since your father was killed in the dungeon, you have to let your brothers know that he's gone. If you need help sharing the property, come to me. I know it better, and your father handed down the majority of shares to you for being so hard on you, as a token for being such an ass to you. Don't let those boys trample on you. I'll fight by your side,” I said.
“Me too,” Freya concurred. She was so damn sweet.
“Thank you, Alpha,” Loretta said and stood up. Freya gazed intently at me then she abruptly smiled.
“Let me see you out,” Frey said and saw her out of the door, not before smiling slyly at me.
