C49 Evelyn roasted
Freya’s Pov
By the middle of the evening, both girls still had their heads infixed perfectly well into their bodies, gratefully, no one had lunged for the other's neck.
That was an improvement.
Kudos to I and Merona or mostly Racheal who kept us in check and out of throttling each other’s neck.
I didn’t miss the side glare we subtly sent to each other, and the flank affection that they did not so discreetly share.
A thought ran through my mind. Were they mates? Or this was just a mutual thing for now. I didn't get the chance to ask Rachael earlier because the thought had been dormant but now I was actually curious.
If this was just——-
“Oh, that's my Luna,” a friendly voice sang, pulling me out of my subconsciousness. I smiled and swirled slightly, coming face to face with a beaming Loretta.
“Loretta,” that was both mine and Racheal’s voice with a distinct tone. While mine was sweet and welcoming, Racheal's voice was blatantly raw with irritation.
Loretta smiled at me and to my side gave an eye roll.
“What are you doing here?!” Rachael snapped, marching forward to her.
Of course they wouldn't show claws, we were in an event with the balling of the court. Loretta's step-up equally shows her snares.
I was wrong, maybe they wouldn't show their claws.
“Isn't that amusing, I find it very funny to see you here, beside our Luna. Guess who didn't support her during the fight, you!” Loretta said pointing a finger at her, “and guess who didn't show up in the hospital, double you,” she added with a smirk.
When Loretta said that, a faint pang tugged lightly inside of my ribcage. We were fighting, but I would never not visit Rachael if ever she was in trouble.
She was a little taken back and the words did shake her, but she was quick to pull the lid on and pretend like that had never happened.
“And suddenly you are the best friend?” Racheal said with a scoff inclining her posture.
“I would not go that far, but…,” Loretta's voice deliberately faded out and I knew she was going to follow it with something edgy, and she did, when she mouthed, “considering the fact that I was the first person she told of her stalker. I mean she didn't even tell you. Some friend you—-”
“That's enough!” I cut in, glancing deliberately at Loretta and a very, very hurt Racheal.
Taking in her demeanor, Loretta snickered.
I guess one of us was enjoying this tension between us.
“You little—-,” Racheal’s voice was silenced swiftly by the soft touch of Merona's hand.
“Freya?!” Racheal called in a hurtful tone, and I felt my heart tug in me. We were both hurt and disappointed in each other. More she than I, it seemed.
“Now your business is done, do you mind leaving?!” Racheal said in a not so nice tone.
Loretta chortled and leaned back slightly, “leave?” she questioned humorously, “sweetheart I'm here to stay,” she told her.
I found this situation very funny, what was this? A high school queen drama.
“Okay, it's time to back off, you leech,” Merona said with her very nice choice of words.
“Hey!”
“Don't call her a leech,” I called out Merona, “and… and she umm can stay,” I said tentatively.
It was as if something cracked with the way Racheal snapped her head to me, “you are kidding,” she said and I let out a sheepish smile.
I had reasons why I let Loretta stay. She was all by herself and I didn't want it to seem as though I had abandoned her after reconciling with my friend, that would make me a jerk. And secondly I very much loved a fuming Merona. They were really a couple because they both shared the same resentment with my declaration.
“There! our Luna has spoken, so…” she moved to my side, “why don't we get the drinks.” she leaned forward and whispered, “thank you.”
“How fun, welcome on board,” Racheal muttered.
“Freya?” an uncanny voice called making my blood run cold and dry, I spun at the mention of my name by that voice that gave me the chill.
An irking blonde stood in sight, if you thought Loretta was too much, wait till you meet this one from the pit of hell.
Those dark eyes that had hunted me, those figures that knowingly flaunt her curves to my front. Just the presence of her made my stomach churn and formed a hot bile in my throat.
“Evelyn,” I called with much disdain, my step-sister from hell.
I knew they were gonna be here, but I didn't expect them to actually show up, I guess I should have when they wouldn't miss a chance to see me suffer, anything to put me down.
It was useless but I suddenly felt small compared to her. All those years of abuse and mal-treating was embedded in my heart, engraved like a stone.
This was foolish, I was Luna now, Luna to the strongest pack, although not officially but I was yet, here I was almost shaking under her disdain look.
“Hmm I see, you've passed through a factory of process to be refined like this. A workload you must have been to Alpha Artemis,” I didn't miss the slight change in her tone at the mention of my mate’s name.
You know that moment, when you encounter your former bully, anywhere in the world and their mere presence still ached you and brought back all those years of abuse and beating and suddenly it felt as though you were back under them, being trampled by the person, you know it was in the past, yet you felt frozen in time or back to that space. That was how I felt. I went back to being her punch bag.
“And who might you be?” Loretta asked, beating me to my reply.
“Oh me? I'm just the hotter version of her,” Evelyn snickered.
“And what makes you think so? Darling it looks like you were refined in a rather danky factory compared to her. Who's your maker might I ask,” Loretta bit back with a very flat tone.
Goodness, I wanted to kiss this girl.
“Oh wait,” Evelyn laughed softly, “she didn't make a puppet of you all, if you knew, oh poor things,” Evelyn said with a chuckle.
“Watch your mouth you plastic barbie!” Merona bit off. I knew what irked her, being called my puppet, but at least she was putting Evelyn in her place.
Evelyn made to speak, but Loretta was fast enough, “puppet? Sweetheart, you wouldn't know a puppet even if you saw one, look in the mirror,” Loretta said, “and who told you you can wear last fall's designer to this event. Lowlife leech,” and we both stifled a laugh.
Racheal stepped forward, “be mindful of what you say, you might just have to be thrown out for posing like a threat to the future Luna of Waterfall pack and trust me, the dungeon never sends out what is let in,” Racheal ate and left no crumbs.
“Wooo,” we cooed like a band of boys.
Their confidence rubbed off of me and I felt my esteem restored. It boosted me to the core.
Loretta stepped forward and said, “sweetheart, you should know the environment you are in before you speak. That mouth of yours would put you in much deeper shit than it let out just so you know and like my friend said, be mindful,” I didn't miss the quick glance Loretta and Racheal both sent their way.
Did she just say what I thought she said?
“Evelyn, we are not in the Eastwood pack. Speak with sanity,” I said and arched an eyebrow at her, “I'll catch up with your parents later,” I said, “now if you would please—-”
I never completed my statement before Oslo came to my side, “Luna,” he bowed, “the alpha has sent for you,” he reported.
“I'll be right there,” I turned to Evelyn, “I guess we would be meeting sooner than I thought, till then, bye,” I said and locked arms with Oslo as we walked out.
