C52 The Rex Family
Freya's Pov
With curiosity, I watched the heated argument between Artemis and Jude. The tension emitting from them had me electrified.
It wasn't the one hot burning tension but rather a facade of smiles and teasing. It was a downplay of what they actually felt inside. The heat was visible from their stare. I wondered what was it that got them so heated up. It had to be something big, but what?
No doubt Jude must have pissed Artemis off and by the look of things, neither of them were backing down.
Wait!
Did any of what they were discussing have anything to do with me? I remembered how they were against me joining the court. Could that have anything to do with me?
I sincerely hope not.
With a pat on Jude's shoulder, Artemis walked out leaving a confused and annoyed Jude to himself.
Something big was steering at the horizon and I knew very well that Artemis would not tell me, so I was left with only one option; finding out for myself.
He started towards me when he reached my side, he leaned in and pressed a kiss to my cheek. Just as he was about to return, I grabbed him by the collar a little too fast and pressed my lips on his. He was shocked at the initial time before he completely had comprehension of the situation and returned the kiss with much savor.
When he pulled away I gasped and covered my lips in shame.
Something was not right, my confidence level had spiked. Like there was a force pushing me, aiding me to do and say things, willing and compelling, insisting that I was in control. I had never felt this way before. It was like a push, a push that told me I had the power. What power?
Like how I intruded and talked down on one of the Court members, the Freya I knew, or was, would never, I mean never do that.
But before I could stop myself, the words had already spilled out of my mouth and what surprised me was that I wasn’t cowering back in fear, rather, I wanted him to be scared of me and show his respect. The sudden hunger to exert dominion on him was poking me.
And now, I impulsively dragged Artemis in for a kiss. Even he was baffled at my sudden courage.
“Stop pondering, I can literally hear the pounding of your heart,” Artemis said, pulling me from my reverie.
“Wh..at what?” I asked, flabbergasted.
“What are you thinking about,” he asked, brushing my cheeks lightly.
“Just…you know? You and Jude, you guys seemed pretty intense there,” I said with a head tilt at the direction Jude was now.
He shrugged his shoulders, “just a friendly reminder of his place and position,” he said, his hand creeping around my waist.
“And? Did he get it?” I asked as he guided me towards the direction of another group of people I had yet to know.
“I’m sure he did, If he did not, that would be too bad for him,” he spoke in a sorry tone that actually got me slightly worried.
“Now, enough about the item, he isn't worth it,” he skillfully brushed away the topic, also using the item to refer to Jude.
“Let me introduce you to some circles that are very important to me,” he said, directing me to the group where the Rexes stood. I also noticed how Jude stared at us all through our walk down, his eyes followed I and Artemis ably.
It gave me the chills and when I locked gaze with him a smirk crept up his countenance as he looked at me from his lashes.
That gave me an eerie feeling before he walked away.
What the fuck was that.
“Alpha,” they acknowledged in unison.
“Luna,” they repeated with the same energy. At least this time it didn't feel like they were being held at gunpoint.
I smiled a thank you at them.
The Rexes stood and looked at me with much disgust that I hadn't thought existed in this lifetime. But what could I say, they were fixed on making sure I fail. I bet they didn't know that I would turn out great, that I'd be just another omega here. Their plan surely blew in their face for trying to sell me to a total stranger.
Artemis leaned back, his hand securely around my waist as he whispered, “are you okay?”
He knew how I felt, he was a very purposeful mate and it heated up my heart that he cared and took note of little details.
“I'm okay,” I whispered thankfully as a smile swept my face.
He returned his hand and his smile, “alpha Artemis,” alpha Rex called with respect. He was quiet before he proceeded with, “I'm so glad to—-,” but he never got to continue his whatever speech, before he pissed off my mate, “did you not see my mate beside me. The Luna of the waterfall pack,” Artemis's tone held that same one I heard on the day we first met, the day he was speaking with alpha Rex that I went hiding.
And the effect was exactly the same, he got alpha Rex and his mate real good. That tone that would have sent me scurrying was appealing now to my ears and I almost let out a snicker as I saw Alpha Rex trembling from fear.
“I'm..i.’m sorry alpha,” he stuttered in fear. Artemis gave him a pointed look and Rex scampered, “Freya, Luna Freya,” he said nervously not daring to look into my eyes.
When Artemis sustained the same look, Alpha Rex notched his wife by the side and she quickly said, “It's nice meeting you Luna Freya,” she said, she didn't miss the opportunity to send me a glare discreetly when Artemis attention splitted.
“What was that?” I asked, stepping forward. That impulsive attitude was at work again, but I didn't mind, she asked for it. What was she thinking, that I was going to sit back and let her insult me? Hell, She thought wrong.
“Wha..t what?” she tried to maintain her cool but the cold gaze from Artemis and I was scaring the shit out of her.
“You have something to say?” I queried and Artemis followed up with, “did she say something?” he asked deadpanned.
“No...no no, she did not,” Alpha Rex came to the rescue of his mate, but even his heroic dive-in wasn't going to save her as both I and Artemis stared at her for an answer.
“No nothing, I.. Was saying that she.. She.. She would be the perfect Luna,” she sputtered and I smiled in satisfaction.
“Well then, that wasn't so hard, was it,” I said with a milky smile on my face.
She nodded her head no and I took that as a cue to move on.
I felt it again, the feeling of someone watching me, it was growing sick. I turned around in circles trying to spot the eye, the person that was watching me.
My fear increased as I felt my bladder gather pressure and burn my abdomen for release. With the fear came the more urge to release.
“Excuse me,” I said to Artemis.
“Why? What happened?” he asked in worry.
“Nothing,” I stiffened out a smile, “just need a woman moment,” I whispered into his ears.
He held eyes as he nodded, “don’t be long,”
I started moving but he grabbed my arm gently, “be careful,” he said.
Did he know something that I wasn't aware of?
I nodded my answer as I made my way to the bathroom by the end of the hall. On my way out, I bumped into something hard, looking up, I saw wrinkled eyes and a predatory gaze.
He grabbed me forcefully by my arm and I felt the sickening feeling return. All the courage I had dispersed from me as I looked wearily at him.
Artemis was far, swallowed by the crowd of people and the meetings. He wouldn’t notice me gone.
Jude's gaze on me never faltered, nor did his arms, he applied so much pressure that I was certain his hand would leave a print there later.
“Let me go,” I struggled to break free, but he had an iron grip on my arm.
“You don’t know what you’re playing into——-“
“Let me go,” I wiggled my arm to be set free, but he pulled me closer, “foolish child! you are playing on the enemy's sword!” he reprimanded as I broke free from his grasp.
“What?!” I asked confused and he stomped away without offering a reply.
You are playing on the enemy’s sword
What the hell does that mean?
