C55 Rachel's confession

Freya’s pov

“Common Freya you got this,” I chanted to myself as I sat in my room. It was evening and the whole place was set.

I was adorned in a green velvet dress, emerald necklace to my neck and a set of dangling earrings were fixed into my ear. It accentuated my natural forest green eyes.

My consciousness was flying in an abnormal pattern, I wasn't myself as I had a lot on my mind. Dare I say, I was afraid.

“I can't do this, I can't,” I strutted towards my drawer, pulled it outwards and there laid my necklace, the one from my father.

It was a brown necklace of fine craftsmanship and it would fit just right with the dress I wore. My fingers found the hook on the necklace I presently had on, I Infixed my hand into the small lock of the necklace, and I pressed it to unlock.

I set it down gently and replaced my father’s necklace where the emerald necklace had previously occupied.

Unconsciously I let out a breath I had not known to be withholding. I could finally practice respiration, as I relaxed.

The door to my room squeaked open as a pair of black ebony eyes locked with mine. Racheal.

It took every ounce of muscle in me not to leap into her arms. And maybe I had been a jerk lately to her. I doubt I would get any better, but I was willing to try.

“Rachael,” I called below a whisper.

“Freya,” she called with an equal tone.

We were both standing across from each other, eyes locked and feet frozen.

“You look beautiful,” she breathed out. That was when I took in the blue dress she had on, long and flowing, corseted and sleeveless. Her hair was packed up in one place.

“You look exquisite,” I complimented. She cracked into a warm-hearting smile, “oh I miss your vocabulary,” she teased, her smile stretching to the whole of her face.

That was when both girls decided to move from their immobile stance, I and Rachael. We met at the center and crashed into a slow comforting, soft hug. Both our heads rested on the crook of each other's shoulder, just breathing as no words were muttered. The silence, too delicate and tender.

“I miss you,” I said, and added, “I'm sorry for being a jerk to you.”

“I'm sorry too, I just got too angry and jealous that you were getting closer to Loretta,” she confessed. I pulled away from the embrace.

“Hey! The only reason I hung out with Loretta was because you were spending more time with Merona,” I said and eyed her, “and making me feel like the third wheel and frankly, it seemed as though I was bothering you,” I admitted shyly.

“Is she okay?” I questioned, remembering how she was still unconscious when the paramedic arrived.

“Yeah, she is and what I have with Merona is completely different from what we both have,” she replied and looked away shyly.

“What could you possibly have with that devil,” I teased, I turned away and retreated to the mirror, observing my necklace. It was more of a locket though. I had tried previously to unlock it but to no avail. I gave up trying.

My hair was held to one side with a comfy hair pin, by the side, it was curled and allowed to bounce. Inspecting my reflection closely, I noticed then that Racheal was quiet.

I whipped my neck to her side, she was fidgeting and picking on her nails. Her face contorted into that of deep thoughts.

“Rachael,” I called as I started towards her, “are you alright? Is everything okay?” I prodded.

Raising her head from her fingers, she stared at me as she came to a decision, “I like Merona,” she spoke out.

“I know you like her, and just because I dislike her doesn't mean you should. You like her and I understand,” I spoke going close to her. I patted her shoulders in a comforting manner.

“No you don't understand,” she insisted with a sullen demeanor.

“Then make me, I may have an event to attend but our friendship comes first and I'm all ears.” I told her. I walked to the bed and sat down, caressing the flowers by my side.

“I like her Frey, I love Merona,” she said.

I continued sniffing my flowers, “I get that you—-” I hung my words as the depth of what she meant caught on. I cracked my head to look at her as she approached me.

“Oh my gosh, Rachael,” I called in bewilderment.

How insensitive could a person get. Then everything started making sense, her actions, Merona's sudden possessiveness. Her lashing out and calling me all sorts of names.

It all made sense now. I really was a selfish bitch. I cared for no one but myself, all the words they both said were nothing but the truth.

“I'm so sorry, I'm sorry for being a bitch, I'm sorry,” I said repeatedly like it was going to change the damage I had done. Like it was going to take us both back in time and correct the mess I had made.

“It's okay,” she cooed and made to touch me, but I lashed out, “no! No it's not okay, I was so indulged in myself that I lost sight of who I am, of you,” I wailed out, disgusted at myself.

“You couldn't have known,” she tried to smoothen out as she walked to my standing form.

“I was so selfish,” I deadpanned.

“It's okay,” she patted my shoulder as she pulled me to the bed.

“So tell me about her,” I said as I attempted to work things out.

“You don't even like her,” she retorted.

I choked on my saliva, “Umm yes, I don't but I will manage her dark side, for you——” I froze abruptly.

That bitch!!!

“Are your feelings reciprocated because I'm sure as hell that she's bent on having Artemis,” I announced abruptly. I remembered during the match, she was out to get a reaction from me, using Artemis against me.

“I'm sure, she’s hundred percent gay, maybe ninety-nine,” Rachael spoke as she tilted her head in a thinking pattern.

“During our match, she was very keen on achieving my position from me,” I told her, but Rachael chuckled instead.

“She said she was doing that to get you angry. She hates his guts and especially the fact that he had all the pretty girls to himself,” she told me.

Ohhh that girl!!

“I take back what I said, I'm never going to work out things with her, she is a devil,” I snapped.

Why would she get me so stressed out about every little thing when she wasn't even interested in the same man as me.

Racheal laughed.

Great, one of us found this hilarious.

“Why didn't you just say anything at first, why didn't you tell me about your feelings?” I queried a little disappointed that she hadn't confided in me and let our relationship soil.

“I did not know how. You hated her. Should I have told you that your enemy was hitting on me?” she asked in a fiat tone.

“Well—— wait! She made the first move?!” I suddenly asked, excited.

“Umm yes, but are you okay, even I wasn't this thrilled,” she said as she observed me with her brows furrowed.

“Oh please I'm okay,” I told her as I rolled my eyes.

“Tell me in details what did she do, how did she come up on you, tell me every damn detail!” I squealed as if I were a little child pleading to her mother to complete a bedtime story. I was that fascinated, the smart ass Merona was hitting on my friend.

“She smiled, she would probably kill me if she heard this from me, but here we go,” and she smiled as she was equally as itchy as me to tell me the full details. Just then, a knock came to the door Interrupting Rachael.

Who dared to interrupt my bedtime story?

Racheal snickered as she took in the look on my face.

“Speak!” I ordered from within.

“It's time Luna,” the unfamiliar male voice announced from the other end.

Party pooper.

“Okay, this is it,” Racheal said, rising to her feet as she held up her hand for me. So sweet.

“You are continuing the story later,” I told her, holding her to a promise.

“I'll be glad to,” she said as she smiled. Moved, I crashed into her arms as I hugged her and sniffed that familiar feeling of home.

She took my hand as we walked to the door, this was it!

Just a few kilometers to the door, my eyes caught the beige square paper with flowers. My stalker was going to be present here and here came my fears.

How could I possibly be safe with the vast number of people that were going to be present?
