C93 Training for the last battle
Freya's Pov
We stood by the field in short, the scent of fresh lewd grass swishing past our noses mixed with a salty wet crystalline liquid that dripped down our skin.
Nobody was slacking as we stood training. I crouched and ducked often a time when Merona would thrust her hand for a punch. We have been going over this for close to ten minutes, the goal was to maintain stability and swiftness, which as I could tell we were getting better at.
The once scarce field was filled with people, it was no news that our enemy was strong as it was no surprise that everyone knew him, had experienced his power not once but oftentimes that it became frequent.
So the thick aura, weaved with sameness with one dream at heart which was to survive.
Tobias, it seemed, had grown distant over the information that Artemis was after me and would not as much as take a breath till he was satisfied that every person standing in his way to get to me was eliminated.
That space had dug a hole in my heart, making me yearn and long for the warmth his body provided. Like now, all I could do was stare at the way his body flexed and tensed over every combat. It also didn't help that I saw him shirtless, his tanned skin smeared with sweat that made him hotter.
“Ouch!” I clutched my nose from pain and stepped back.
“Pay attention and stop gawking at his body like a whore,” Merona said pointedly. I wanted to deny it however her punch had proved that I had been drooling.
I brought down my arm to check for any blood just then Merona spoke, “I was careful not to draw blood.”
“You call that careful, I felt my nose bone crack,” I said, peering my nose for any harm with my hand.
“You'll get over it,” she muttered.
“Now shall we?” she asked, posing as a wrestler. Ready to take me on.
“But why is he ignoring me?” I sighed and turned to his training form with a frown.
“Why?” my frown deepening, I turned to Merona and pouted.
“Because his queen is about to be taken from him and he cannot allow that,” she explained.
“I know but I miss him so much,” my head whipped to him, and then returned to her, “what should I do?” I cried.
“Then talk to him and not me, now face me!” she instructed.
“What? No, I'm not —-” her fist came flying but I was quick to duck and throw a counter punch.
“Hey! That's cheating!” I yelled.
She guffawed, “c’mon.”
“What do I do? I really—”
“Freya!” she demanded, “stop it, focus and—”
I interrupted her, “ and do what? I have been training for the past one week and yes, Artemis wants to kill me, but I don't want to be dead knowing that I never got close to the love of my life,” I complained.
“Then talk to him,” she commented.
“How? He has been avoiding me,” I cried and swung my head to him.
“He has been avoiding you but he hasn't asked you to stay away from him has he?” she asked and I shook my head negatively.
“Soo, talk to him Freya and use one of those lady seductive skills on him, before you know it he would be fucking you senselessly and then your head would get back on what's important.”
“You really think so?” I asked for reassurance.
“Yes I do, so now gooo,” she pushed me along with her words.
My lips curled into an awkward smile, as I started towards him.
What would I say? How would I approach him? I didn't want to come off as needy and misplacement of priorities. But at the same time I needed him.
“Urmm..” my voice tailed off, I've not the time to complete my statement before somebody called me up, “mummy!” I heard.
Swerving around I came face to face with my kids, my lovely kids. By the side was Loretta, guiding them to me.
“Hello there,” I laughed and tickled them to which they guffawed along.
“I'm sorry but you have to take care of them,” Loretta patted my shoulder and moved over to the field.
Ever since she told us about Artemis' plan she had sworn to have her revenge and would play her part in his demise.
“Daddy!” they squealed, earning his attention. My smile tore through my face and went beyond my lips as the realization that maybe he could join us. That would give me an opportunity to be with him. Alone.
He smiled and waved at them, then continued instructing the warriors.
“Bend fast! Don't give your opponent a chance at you,” he told them, “remember it's not a game but a fight for life.”
It was for survival, in this battle, either one of the pack would die and there were no two ways about it. We hoped we would win.
With the children in my hand, I picked them up and strutted inside with a pang of guilt.
Artemis Pov
“Has she returned?” I asked Oslo who was following me down to the dungeon.
If my dream was correct, which I knew it wasn't, I had to prepare the way. The chains rustled as the elevator came to a halt. We walked into the cell.
There sat Loretta’s brother and some court members that thought they could double cross me.
“Should we wake them up?” Asked one of the guards.
“Get me a bowl with water in it,” I instructed the guard. He nodded his head with such force I thought it may roll off.
The prisoners were sleeping, their skin was marred with a wound slit. My wolf clawed at me to rein in chaos, I wanted blood and Freya.
She was going to regret leaving me, I gave her everything. We could have worked things out yet she chose to run away with my pups, heir to my throne. She would know no peace.
My fist clenched and I gritted that it felt as though I would grind my teeth into powdered form from the rate of tension I applied.
“Sir,” the guard called and hurried to my side with the bowls of water.
I took hold of it and with swift motion, I used the water on the prisoners, jerking them awake. By the opening of their eyes, the gaze became horror struck as they beheld the look in my eyes
Fear ripped through them, emitting and filling my nose like rotten meat.
“Your sister still hasn’t returned,” I said, strolling over to Loretta’s brother, “what do you think she’s doing and where is she at?” I gripped his jaw firmly. So tight that my claw dug into his flesh, drawing out crimson copper like smell.
“Your sister, she better return with good news, less she would connect with your father and brother,” I told him.
“You can go to hell!” He barked, surprising me. I was astonished by his bravery and never thought he had it in him. He was the dull dutiful son, I guess staying here for two years plus had given him a backbone.
I smirked, “I see you have gotten much more comfortable,” turning to the guards, “don’t give him food for three days,” I commanded.
“Fuck you and your meal!” He snarled.
“I’d like to see how long you’d last without that,” I turned on my heel, clicking sound followed as I started walking out.
“Alpha! Alpha please!” Mark yelled, “I would behave, I promise to never go against you,” he pleaded but they all fell on deaf ears.
I continued my way out of the elevator.
“What are we going to do with Loretta’s brother,” Oslo asked, face stoic and bereft of emotions.
“We are going to kill him, he’s just a worm for a fish,” I said with a smile.
His fate was dependent on his side.
