C13 Was It Fun to Wrong Someone?

The Sheng family might not be the most elite household, but they still have several security guards at the entrance.

Tan Ye somehow managed to slip in unnoticed. He climbed in through the window and stood beside her, looking at her with surprise. "You actually noticed me? Impressive."

Sheng Yan had trained in self-defense back in the countryside. Although she wasn't fond of fighting, her sharp senses made it easy to detect Tan Ye, who had been sitting in the backyard tree, watching the scene unfold.

She glanced at him but didn't respond.

From Tan Ye's vantage point, he could see the elegant curve of Sheng Yan's neck as she turned her head. Her skin was so pale it seemed to glow, like jade touched by snow. It was quite captivating.

Tan Ye leaned closer and lifted her chin. "You've got guts, but it seems like you're not in the best situation with the Sheng family. So, have you decided to team up with me?"

Sheng Yan turned her face away. "I can handle things for now."

Though Tan Ye didn't seem as unapproachable as rumors suggested, Sheng Yan knew that behind his smiling eyes lay a shadowy, cold intensity. His outward elegance and warmth were just a façade. Who knew what kind of personality lurked beneath that mask?

Whether he was obsessive or something else entirely, she had no intention of taking that risk.

Tan Ye didn't push her. He left his phone number, saying, "My grandma's birthday is coming up in a few days. I'll have Chen Qian send you an invitation. I hope you won't decline."

As soon as Tan Ye left, Xiaoyun walked in. Sheng Yan didn't turn around, continuing to wipe her face.

Feigning concern, Xiaoyun asked, "Yan, are you okay?"

Sheng Yan looked at her through the mirror. "Spare me the fake concern. If there's nothing else, get out of my room."

Xiaoyun's face froze. Unable to keep up the pretense of sisterly affection, she left Sheng Yan's room, feeling defeated.

For the past six months, she and Sheng Yan had been getting along, and Sheng Yan usually listened to her. Why the sudden change?

Sheng Yan had always been quiet, enduring grievances without a word, like she was bearing a heavy burden. Why had she suddenly wised up? Was she no longer afraid or under Xiaoyun's control?

Was it because of the false accusation of eloping with Faang Zheng'an that had hit her so hard it changed her personality?

The thought made Xiaoyun uneasy. If she couldn't control Sheng Yan, maybe it was time to... push her out of the family.

Xiaoyun, spoiled her whole life, was suddenly faced with the truth that she wasn't the Sheng family's biological daughter. She hadn't slept well since, fearing Sheng Yan would steal her spotlight and push her out of the family.

Fortunately, Yan was easy to push around. She was often teased and excluded, never daring to say a word. So, Xiaoyun pretended to be close to her, lowering Yan's guard. Having someone so unsophisticated at home only highlighted Xiaoyun's own elegance and grace.

But since yesterday's birthday party, Yan had been acting strangely and was no longer easy to fool. If Yan would just listen to her older sister, Xiaoyun would let her stay. But now that Yan was being defiant, Xiaoyun was ready to play hardball.

Xiaoyun made up her mind to act quickly before things got out of hand. Finally, the opportunity came—

That evening, when Yan went downstairs for a drink of water, Xiaoyun, who lived next door, heard her and followed. Watching Yan's back, Xiaoyun's eyes gleamed as she spoke softly, "Yan, you're getting some water too?"

Yan ignored her, focused on filling her glass. Xiaoyun smirked, slowly pouring her own water onto the floor before walking past Yan. Suddenly, she stepped on the wet spot and fell heavily.

Xiaoyun screamed in pain, "Ah, it hurts so much!"

Yan watched her performance with a cold gaze. Xiaoyun's exaggerated cries woke the entire household.

Zhuang Lan rushed out of the room immediately. Seeing Sheng Xiaoyun sprawled on the floor, her heart ached terribly. Then she noticed Sheng Yan standing nearby, just watching, and her anger flared.

"What’s wrong with you? You see your sister fall and don’t even help her up?"

Sheng Yan seemed a bit aggrieved and quietly explained, "I'm sorry. I saw Ms. Xiaoyun pour water on the floor and then walk over it. I thought she was trying to show off some special skill, so I didn’t stop her right away."

Zhuang Lan was clearly upset by Sheng Yan's explanation, her expression turning even colder. "Even so, you can’t just stand by and watch her fall without doing anything."

Before Sheng Yan could respond, Sheng Xiaoyun spoke up softly. "Mom, don’t scold Yan. I accidentally spilled the water myself. Although it was because she bumped into me that I fell, I believe she didn’t do it on purpose."

Her words seemed to defend Sheng Yan, but in reality, they confirmed the accusation that Sheng Yan had intentionally pushed her.

Sheng Yan was resigned to Sheng Xiaoyun’s antics. Coming down for a glass of water had turned into such a fiasco. If they kept living together like this, who knows what else might happen in the future?

If Sheng Xiaoyun loved falling so much, then tonight she could have her fill.

Sheng Yan had a plan in mind and immediately put on an innocent expression, sincerely saying, "I'm really sorry, Ms. Xiaoyun. I didn't realize I bumped into you. It was truly an accident."

After speaking, Sheng Yan timidly turned to Zhuang Lan and said, "Mom, I grew up in the countryside and I'm not used to living in a place like this. I didn't know the floor was wet and slippery. Please don't blame me."

Seeing Sheng Yan's timid and apologetic demeanor, Zhuang Lan felt increasingly frustrated. However, hearing that Sheng Yan didn't do it on purpose and was willing to admit fault, she could only let out a faint "hmm" in response.
