C15 Was It Biased?
Sheng Yan kept her head down, lost in her thoughts.
Sheng Xiaoyun spoke sweetly, “But she’s still my sister. I just want to build a good relationship with her. Plus, she just came back to the family, and I’m worried she might think I’m ignoring her on purpose.”
Seeing Xiaoyun being so considerate, Sheng Nancheng felt his heart melt.
“Sister? It’s just a bit of shared blood. You don’t need to worry about her. If she ever gives you a hard time, just let me know, and I’ll set her straight.”
“I understand. You’re so good to me, big brother,” Xiaoyun replied softly. “But Yan is your real sister, so don’t treat her like that. It might make the elders think I’m stirring up trouble.”
“Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, no one will dare misunderstand you.”
Sheng Nancheng gently patted Xiaoyun’s hair before turning to take a closer look at Sheng Yan.
His real sister had been back with the family for over six months now. But he’d been busy with projects out of town and only managed brief visits with Xiaoyun before rushing off again. He’d never really taken a good look at Sheng Yan.
In his mind, she always hid behind thick bangs, rarely spoke, and moved so quietly she seemed ghost-like. Overall, she wasn’t very likable.
But today, as he observed her closely, he noticed her long, smooth hair cascading down her back, her forehead clear and attractive, though her face was overly pale. Her eyes, sparkling like stars, evoked a sense of tenderness and sympathy.
She was so beautiful, so radiant.
He paused for a moment.
Was this his younger sister, Yan Sheng?
Beauty is truth, and he hesitated before saying, "Are you—Yan?"
Yan Sheng seemed to have been waiting for him to recognize her. Hearing his question, she timidly called out, "Big brother, I didn't mean to push Ms. Xiaoyun."
Zhuang Lan felt a pang of sadness seeing Yan Sheng's timidness in front of her brother.
She wasn't a completely bad person.
On the contrary, she was a good mother; otherwise, she wouldn't have spoiled Xiaoyun like a treasure.
No matter what, Yan Sheng was still her biological daughter.
Her daughter had grown up in the countryside, lacking the poise and elegance expected in society, but that wasn't her fault...
Zhuang Lan sighed softly, "Let's just leave it at that. No one should bring it up again."
Nancheng also felt a strange sensation in his heart.
Looking into Yan Sheng's eyes, which seemed to sparkle like stars, he suddenly wanted to ask her if life in the countryside had been particularly tough.
How could his own sister endure such hardships?
Xiaoyun noticed the way they all looked at Yan Sheng and, with a cold glint in her eyes, spoke gently again.
"Yan, although I don't know why you pulled me down the stairs, it's true that I've taken your place all these years, and that was wrong of me."
"I apologize to you, and I hope you can forgive me. From now on, let's get along like sisters, peacefully. How does that sound?"
Sheng Yan knew that Sheng Xiaoyun wouldn't easily change the family's opinion of her.
Sure enough, Sheng Nancheng frowned upon hearing this, and any slight goodwill he had felt was immediately wiped away.
He looked at Sheng Yan with disdain. "Was it you who pushed Xiaoyun down the stairs?"
Sheng Yan quickly replied, "I didn't!"
Xiaoyun interjected, "It's okay."
Their voices overlapped, and Sheng Yan's refusal to admit fault only made Xiaoyun seem even more endearing and innocent.
Sheng Nancheng turned to Sheng Yan and said, "Xiaoyun is willing to forgive you, but if you won't admit your mistake, then just leave. Don't come near Xiaoyun again."
His voice was thick with disgust, as if even looking at her was bad luck.
Without another word, Sheng Yan silently walked out. She understood that those who cry get the attention, so she didn't argue further, though she had already made up her mind.
Just as Sheng Yan reached the door, she discreetly pinched her palm and collapsed to the floor.
Zhuang Lan gasped in shock and rushed over to her, urging Sheng Nancheng to quickly call a doctor!
