C6 Why Was She as Pampered as Her?

Sheng Xiaoyun's face changed when she saw Sheng Yan suddenly appear. Wasn't Sheng Yan supposed to be tricked by Zheng'an into staying away? How did she get back? And she looked perfectly fine, even dressed up beautifully. This was completely different from what Xiaoyun had imagined.

Countless questions flashed through Xiaoyun's mind, but she quickly adjusted her demeanor. With a gentle and composed tone, she asked, "Yan, is the food not to your liking?"

"The food's all cold, and I don't eat green peppers. Yet, the staff keeps making dishes with them," Sheng Yan replied, glancing at Xiaoyun. "Ms. Xiaoyun, I never said I wouldn't come down. Why were you so eager to bring me cold food?"

Her words took everyone by surprise. Xiaoyun had just emphasized how Sheng Yan refused to join the party, making it seem like Yan was being difficult. But now, it seemed there was more to the story.

Sheng Yan's unexpected appearance at the party left Zhuang Lan a bit displeased. She walked over, giving her daughter a cool look. Seeing that Yan was dressed appropriately today, she held back her anger and asked, "What happened?"

Sheng Yan showed her the cold food. "Mrs. Wang brought it over earlier, but instead of bringing it to my room, she just left it outside my door."

Mrs. Wang, standing nearby, was startled by the revelation.

Since Sheng Yan was brought back from the countryside, she seemed easy to bully with her rustic appearance. Over time, everyone treated her as if she didn't matter. Who would have thought she'd suddenly air the dirty laundry in front of so many guests today?

Mrs. Wang was startled and quickly stepped forward to explain, "I knocked, but there was no answer. I thought the second miss was having another tantrum, so..."

She deliberately muddled the situation to make it seem like Sheng Yan was difficult and temperamental.

Sheng Yan blinked her innocent eyes. "I was changing clothes and might not have heard. But even if I didn't respond, you shouldn't just leave my food on the floor and walk away. It happened today, and yesterday when Mrs. Zhou brought my meal, it was the same..."

Leaving a meal on the floor is how you'd treat a dog.

The guests whispered among themselves after hearing this.

"Even if Sheng Yan is newly returned and there's no bond, she's still a daughter of the Sheng family. You can't treat her like this."

"Sheng Xiaoyun seems so poised and graceful, but who knew she'd treat her sister this way behind closed doors?"

"Appearances can be deceiving."

Zhuang Lan gritted her teeth and quietly scolded Sheng Yan, "Shut up. Do you realize what kind of occasion this is? So many guests are watching, and you want to disgrace the Sheng family?"

Sheng Yan's eyes welled up with tears. "I'm sorry, Mom. I just wanted to tell Ms. Xiaoyun that I don't eat cold rice..."

Zhuang Lan gritted her teeth. "Get back to your room right now! Stop embarrassing me here."

She didn't care if Sheng Yan felt wronged. She was more worried about Sheng Yan bringing shame to the family.

Sheng Yan lowered her head, feeling wronged. "It's clearly Ms. Xiaoyun's fault. Why am I the only one getting scolded?"

Zhuang Lan always thought Sheng Yan was strange and difficult to get along with. Even after having her back for over half a year, she never really paid her any attention.

She didn't expect that today, Sheng Yan would openly defy her over something as trivial as cold rice.

Zhuang Lan was almost dizzy with anger, feeling incredibly frustrated.

She glared at Sheng Yan and whispered, "What's gotten into you today? Why aren't you staying quietly in your room instead of causing trouble? No matter what Xiaoyun did wrong, handle it privately and don't speak up again."

Sheng's father coughed to stop Zhuang Lan from lashing out at Sheng Yan and turned to Sheng Xiaoyun. "You were in the wrong here. Apologize to Yan."

The onlookers whispered among themselves.

"Xiaoyun seems gentle, but who knew she could be so ruthless? And it's obvious Zhuang Lan is covering for her."

"Sheng Yan is new to this family and hasn't learned the rules of high society. She can't compete with the polished Xiaoyun. Life must be tough for her."

Sheng Xiaoyun felt uncomfortable hearing the murmurs around her, clenching her fists tightly. She was the pampered princess of the family, so why should she apologize to Sheng Yan, who was just a country bumpkin? But her father had spoken, and she had no choice but to comply.

Lowering her head, she said, "Yan, I'm sorry. I was careless. Please don't be mad at me. These servants have been with the family for decades and think they can do whatever they want."

With that, Sheng Xiaoyun shot a cold glance at Mrs. Wang. "Apologize to Yan."

Mrs. Wang, catching Sheng Xiaoyun's icy stare, quickly turned to Sheng Yan and said, "I'm sorry, Second Miss. Please forgive me this time. I won't dare do it again."

Feeling disheartened, Sheng Yan replied, "You and Mrs. Zhou are both Xiaoyun's people. I even have to hand over my living expenses card to you. Whatever Xiaoyun decides, I have to go along with it."

This statement caused a stir among the onlookers. The servants had too much power, didn't they? Xiaoyun had gone too far, even giving Sheng Yan's living expenses to the two servants.

Sheng's father, sharp as ever, immediately sensed something was amiss. His eyes flickered as he glanced between his daughters, then turned to Steward Fong. "Have them leave immediately."

He then addressed Sheng Yan, "I'll have Steward Fong arrange for two new people to take care of your meals. I'll also give you a new card with a monthly allowance of ten thousand dollars."

Xiaoyun was taken aback! She only received an allowance of $10,000 a month, so why should Yan get the same amount?
