C18 You Have to Bear the Consequences

"God of Flames?"

The Featherman girl paused, a look of confusion spreading across her lovely face.

With so many deities across Chaosland, she had never encountered any mention of a God of Flames.

He was likely a novice deity, freshly ascended to godhood; otherwise, why would he intervene to save her?

The Featherman girl let out a wry smile, instinctively ready to decline.

The Featherman Clan, a formidable race, had their own deity: the God of the Sky.

How could she, a devout Featherman, so easily pledge allegiance to another god?

Yet, as she prepared to voice her rejection, the words simply wouldn't come.

Her tribe, the White Feather Clan of the Featherman, had suffered greatly in past battles with humans, losing many clansmen and leaving them weakened.

As the White Feather Clan's Battle Maiden, Lillian had courageously faced a human squad, drawing their attention to safeguard her people.

Chased by a Griffin Knight, she had prayed to the God of the Sky time and again, only to be met with silence.

Reflecting on the years of unanswered prayers for guidance and protection, Lillian felt a surge of indignation and disillusionment.

What use was a god who could not lead or shield his people?

Yet here was this unknown God of Flames, extending aid in her direst moment—enough to earn her trust.

"Great God of Flames, I, Lillian, Battle Maiden of the White Feather Clan, pledge to be your devoted follower!"

With resolve, the Featherman girl, Lillian, took her oath with earnest sincerity.

"Very well! I shall smite these savage humans with divine retribution," Lin Mo responded.

"Hey! Don't snub our goodwill only to face harsher consequences. You've stirred the wrath of the Bernard Empire, and mage or not, you'll face the repercussions."

Impatient as the wall of flames continued to burn, the Griffin Knight spoke with a rising anger.

"Heh, it's not me who'll have to deal with the fallout—it's you!"

Lin Mo let out a cold laugh as the expansive wall of flames surged toward the three Griffin Knights. The intense heat generated a massive wave of fire, threatening to engulf them completely.

"Not good!"

The lead Griffin Knight bellowed, frantically squeezing his mount with his legs.

The Griffin flapped its wings in a panic, lifting off just in time to avoid being consumed by the blaze.

But the Griffin Knights were too slow to ascend, and Lin Mo's flames scorched their claws, eliciting cries of agony.

"Such power and magnitude of the flames suggest our adversary is at least a Rank Six Archmage. But why would a being of such stature bother to strike at us over a mere orc?"

The Griffin Knight gazed down at the inferno below, awe mingling with fear, as cold sweat trickled down his temple.

"Esteemed Archmage, I beg your pardon for my earlier disrespect. If this orc piques your interest, please, take it as a token of peace. All we ask is that you spare us any further trouble and allow us to depart."

In the Bernard Empire, Rank Six Archmages are among the elite. A Rank Four Knight like myself stands no chance in comparison. If we were incinerated here and now, the Empire wouldn't dare to challenge the Archmage on our behalf. Instead, they'd likely go to great lengths to win the Archmage over.
