C14 Chapter 14
Huang Canxin was still lurking by the doorway, sneaking glances. Yang Zimu was about to cry, sprawled on the bed and waving her hand hard. “Get out... I don’t want to see you...”
“Zimu, you didn’t cry last night, and you’re not crying now either. Be good...”
He really shouldn’t have said that. The second he did, Zimu got even angrier. Couldn’t he tell how humiliating this was? How was she supposed to show her face after this?
Xiaoli and Huang Canxin were definitely going to joke about it!
Her spotless reputation—ruined just like that...
Uh... not like she really had a spotless reputation anymore.
It had been wrecked a long time ago because of Lian Chi.
“Ah—” Zimu looked like she was about to spit blood, eyes rimmed red. She pointed at him with a trembling finger. “You’re picking on me because you know I won’t bully someone with a few screws loose, aren’t you? Huh?”
“Who are you calling—”
The door slammed shut with a bang. The gust it kicked up swept his bangs aside, revealing his handsome face.
Gu Yanjue rubbed his nose, then let out a soft laugh. “What a temper.”
Xiaoli and Huang Canxin were eating breakfast when Zimu stomped over and dropped into a seat, angrily tearing into a piece of toast. “Don’t ask me. There’s nothing to talk about.”
“Did it hurt the first time?” Huang Canxin asked with a grin, nearly earning herself a beating.
Zimu rolled her eyes, completely drained. “Forget it. I’m going back to the dorm. It’s break, so campus should be a lot quieter.”
“You’re not going!” Gu Yanjue howled from behind them. “Zimu, you can’t just leave me.”
Xiaoli and Huang Canxin stared in shock as he yanked Zimu’s hand up and pulled her tight against his chest.
Today he wasn’t wearing that fake mustache. His shoulder-length hair was parted down the middle, and with a white button-down, black casual pants, and his height, he looked like he’d walked straight out of a magazine.
“H-He? Is he... that guy?” Huang Canxin pointed at Gu Yanjue’s face, practically stuttering. “So if he shaves and changes clothes, he turns into a totally different person... He’s so hot!”
Xiaoli seemed like she’d known all along. After a split second of surprise, she calmly kept eating. “I’m not coming back tonight.”
She was going to her boyfriend’s place—maybe she’d be moving out for good soon.
Before noon, two shocking things had already happened, and Canxin still hadn’t fully processed either of them. She happened to be going through Ry Group info on her laptop when she saw the news about their CEO disappearing.
And then she saw something even more terrifying than what had happened that morning.
“This isn’t… this can’t be…” She was so worked up she was on the verge of tears. How could this be happening?
Something like this only happened in fantasies—and Yang Zimu had run straight into it.
Canxin bit her finger, debating whether she should call Zimu and give him a heads-up.
“Say one word, and you won’t need to come to work the day after tomorrow.”
The cool, smooth voice behind her made her heart jolt. She clenched her fist and turned around. Sure enough, it was the face she’d expected. “I… I understand…”
“Good.” The man patted her head, smiling in a way that sent a chill down her spine. “Just act like nothing happened.”
He still wasn’t done having his fun. No way he was going to let it get exposed now.
Watching him stroll out, Canxin pressed a hand to her racing chest and let out a long breath. “I just have to play this right, and then… heh…”
With Yang Zimu backing her up, she wouldn’t get pushed around anywhere.
She was already daydreaming about her happy future…
Yang Zimu bought a Häagen-Dazs and sat by the café’s glass window, studying what was on his laptop, his brow tightening slightly.
Someone else was dead. The police had wrapped it up fast, and the victim’s family was outside the station, crying their hearts out.
