C6 Chapter 6

“Ahhh! Fine—then take a nice shower tonight and wait for me to come eat you up!”

In the empty alley, Gu Yanjue’s bright voice rang out, excited and a little dopey.

The person walking ahead of him already looked like they were about to pop a vein, teeth grinding so hard it practically squeaked. “Get the hell back!”

At the lion’s roar, Gu Yanjue froze in place, poking his fingers together and putting on an utterly wronged face. “Th-then… I’m leaving, okay?”

He took a few steps, then looked back again and again—like he was being dragged away against his will.

Yang Zimu sucked in a few deep breaths, forcing down the rage stuck in his chest. Then he turned, sprang forward in a few quick bounds, and vanished from sight.

The gang boss thought his luck had finally turned. He drove along, humming to himself, and as he replayed everything from ten minutes ago, his pleasure-soaked eyes flashed with a vicious, murderous glare.

“You little brat! You think you can mess with me? Just wait till I get back—I’ll have my guys beat you into the ground!”

“Oh?” A sweet, drawn-out voice purred right by his ear.

The beauty didn’t care how badly she’d rattled him. She was already sitting in the passenger seat, lounging like she owned the place, admiring her pale, flawless fingers. She lifted her eyes. “Say that again.”

“Heh… heh…” The gang boss’s mouth twitched. His smile looked worse than a funeral face. He hunched, trying to get out of the car, when a slender hand lightly pinched the hem of his clothes.

“Heh… we can talk about this. We can talk…” He wiped the sweat off his forehead, staring at the girl in disbelief.

He’d driven this far, and she still caught up.

What was she—human?

“City A’s top dog… that’s you, right?”

The moment Yang Zimu said it, the gang boss nearly jumped out of his skin. “What do you want? You already cleaned out my whole place… ma’am, I’m begging you. I was the one who messed with you back then… I’m sorry…”

The crime boss clasped his hands together and stared at Moh Yao with a pitiful look. “I never should’ve set my sights on your Flame Heart... Look, I’m giving it back to you. Now that it’s returned to its rightful owner, you’ll let me go, right?”

He’d been powerful and well-connected since he was a kid—so how had he ended up begging a woman younger than him to spare his life?

The crime boss couldn’t wrap his head around it.

The file clearly said the woman in front of him was only nineteen, a college student—just an ordinary person. Taking the Flame Heart back should’ve been easy.

But instead... every one of the guys he brought with him was dead.

The moment he thought back to what had just happened, his face went even paler.

“Answer my question!”

The hand at his throat tightened slightly. The crime boss couldn’t breathe. He didn’t need to think twice—if he didn’t tell the truth, he was going to die here.

“Cough... cough... I run the underworld in City A. Anything beyond that, I don’t know! But I’m telling you...” Even then, the crime boss didn’t forget to warn Yang Zimu. “My brother and his people are no joke... If I die, you won’t get away either!”

The sun sank behind the hills, and night fell.

City A lit up—neon everywhere, traffic streaming by.

After a long day, people flowed through the streets nonstop, either hurrying along or walking arm-in-arm with friends and lovers by the lake.

This city that never slept had a kind of glamour you couldn’t find in daylight.

Against the noisy crowd, a girl in white with long hair moved in the opposite direction, her figure impossible to miss.

She brushed past people now and then without meaning to. When she finally left the upscale streets near the subway station, she looked down at the luxury goods in her hands and the stack of cash, the corners of her mouth lifting slightly.
