C7 Romeo or Robbin hood

Mr. Owolabi stares at Nathaniel and me and begins to laugh. The whole class turns to look at him to check if his sanity is still in place.

"What's your name?"He asks Nathaniel.

"Nathaniel Briggs" Nathaniel replies boldly. I am beyond puzzled as I wonder where this is going.

"Do you know this short rat standing beside you? " Mr. Owolabi asks Nathaniel whilst pointing at me in yet another unsuccessful attempt to make the class laugh.

"I do not know any rats but for the pretty young lady beside me?, yes I know her. Her name is Jade. I met her first yesterday and she's my friend." Nathaniel replies.

The whole class including Mr. Owolabi is thrown aback by Nathaniel's bravery. I on the other hand am far beyond flattered.

Another time I thank God for my skin color and I am also honored that he considers me a friend.

"Ha! Busted. "Victor calls from his seat making the whole class turn in his direction.

He is laughing and pointing at Nathaniel causing me and the whole class to explode in laughter. He is laughing and all but for some reason, I sense jealousy in his voice and his laughter does not seem at all genuine to me as I have seen him laugh before.

Maybe... he is just being jovial and does not care and it's my mind that is making what I want, seem true whereas false.

Victor just pulled us out and made it look like Nathaniel and I have a 'thing'. And that too in front of a teacher! I turn to Nathaniel and his checks are a deep shade of red.

Once again... Thank you Lord for making me dark.

Now Mr. Owolabi is also laughing although I am desperately praying he did not get the message. Then Mr. Owolabi decides to kill the vibe with another dry joke of his.

"Chai you children no good ooo. Which wan is busted. Do they look like pure water?" The laughter in the class drops immediately he makes this statement and we are back to the old quiet class.

He just had to spoil it! But I am glad all the laughing is over.

It turns out Mr. Owolabi just wants to make the class laugh and Nathaniel and I, for some fucked up reason seems to be the perfect target.

"Look, Nathaniel women can be deceitful ooo. Forget that Jade has an innocent babyface. She can be devilish o. "

Now. I know he is just joking and desperate to make us laugh... But what the hell? What if Victor and Nathaniel take his words to heart and choose to judge me based on them? I know that would be a huge jackpot for Silvia.

"Yh... So true." Silvia's pesky voice calls out from the corner of the class. She is wearing a smile but we all know better than to trust that sly bitch.

"Close your mouth! You are not even ashamed of the rubbish you are carrying on your head. You are still talking.

You better go and collect your money back from the hairdresser. "Mr. Owolabi says to shut Silvia up.

Her face turns red and there is an uproar of laughter in the classroom and for the first time in a long while, Mr. Owolabi made us laugh.

You'd think that he's making us laugh would be his cue to let Nath and I sit but no... He has only just begun...

"So as I was saying, I think you should watch out cause that innocent face you are seeing there is one professional schemer. "

If you observe closely, the atmosphere and all that is being said and done... I think Mr. Owolabi is indirectly trying to define Silvia to the boys... But why not just use her?

"You were seating facing her, my brother.. Look before you leap and watch before you fall oo".

Now this message was not meant for the whole class but as for Faith, Nathaniel, and I... We got it loud and clear.

He was addressing Nathaniel and Victor over Silvia but from the expression on Victor's face, sadly like the rest of the class, he did not get the message.

The rest of the class went on well and there was no more drama. On break time, Victor came up to Nathaniel;

"Hey I'm sorry, but this is my seat." He says to Nathaniel.

"Oh, I'm sorry bro... But Miss Ana put me here. " Nathaniel replies with utter peace and calmness in his voice.

He is not planning on getting up, neither is he planning on getting into a fight but Victor on the other hand looks like he is about to throw a few good blows at Nath.

I keep my nose buried in the Archie comic I got from Nath earlier. Although I am paying zero attention to the book before me, I make it look like I am lost in the book and unaware of what is going on beside me so I would not be called to judge.

"Miss Ana put me here also," Victor says through gritted teeth.

"Well yesterday you were absent, I got the seat and it seems to me like you have a new seat." Nathaniel spits impatiently but still tries his possible best to suppress the emotion in his voice.

Victor makes to speak before he is cut off by Silvia who I do not know when she entered the class.

"Yes, Vic... You have a new seat... It's best if you leave this place for him. We would not want Miss Anas trouble, and your new seat is better isn't it? "

Victor wants to protests but for some reason holds back his words and agrees with Silvia.

The expression on his face is plain anger and I don't know why. I do not look up at him but I know he is staring at me and then he exits the class with his new friend Emerald.

If Silvia hadn't come, I am sure Vic and Nath would have come to a compromise. But no! She just had to show her ugly... Well, not so ugly face... Here!.

When I look up, she is standing at the front of the class staring at me and when she catches my eyes, she gives a sly smile. Perhaps she is expecting me to storm out of the class, quickly break our eye contact in frustration, eye her or who knows what.

I shock her by slowly tearing my gaze from hers with an emotionless face.

The expression on her face is priceless. She is shocked by my reaction as she expected me to overreact. Although I honestly do not know why my reaction to the scenario is so calm, I am happy about it.

The day is going smoothly until Victor passes a note to me;

'Please help me get my seat back.'

My heart leaps for joy on seeing this. I am happy he does not want to seat beside Silvia...

'I'd try'

I write on the paper and pass it back to him.

As the day goes by, I keep stealing glances of Victor and try to devise ways to get Nathaniel off the seat... But Nathaniel would not budge so I give up and Victor has to get used to his new seat... He just has to.

It's all his fault. Who asked him not to come to school yesterday?

The day is over and the week is gone. I am looking forward to the next week and what life has to offer me... Although I am not sure I am ready for it.
