C8 Chapter 8

A third point of view

King Valdo was standing there ready to say ‘anything for you, my queen.’ he loved her more than himself; he had been waiting for such a gathering moment, so, if she asked him to jump off the hill or stab his heart, he would do it blindly and without thinking twice.

“which is?” he tried to be calm, smiling while stepping closer enough to see her eyes and read her mind.

She crossed her arms over her chest, “first, tell me everything. And I decide later.”

King Valdo indeed had no other option; he hoped that it might melt her heart towards him, and by telling her everything he had faced and suffered while he was away, she might stay with him.

He had high hopes.

He sighed, “okay, but first. I really need to go elsewhere now, and I will come back in a few minutes.” he rounded his fist, and this time he didn’t wait for her words.

He really was going to jump over her neck at any moment; he had to go there.

He had to go to the blood-room. It's a room containing only fridges and blood. But as much as he was in a hurry to protect her from him, as much as he was thirsty to drink some blood to calm his needs for human or creature blood, he didn’t notice that pink was following him.

She couldn’t wait; she couldn't resist the magnet and the bond anymore. She died millions of times without him; whatever happened, she had forgotten… The only thing she wanted at that moment was Valdo.

That’s why she followed him.

Until she saw everything. She saw the real monster he became. As much as she was sorry for him. But seeing him like this froze her brain.

All she was thinking of while watching him gulping a blood bottle after another from the fridge was ‘at least he didn’t bite humans, he didn’t kill anyone.’

But she didn’t know that king Valdo locked himself behind fucking iron bars like jail room to stop himself from hunting humans or helpless creatures.

Only God knows how much he had suffered.

But curiosity pressed on her nerves, that's why she asked, “Is this animal blood or human?”

He stopped drinking, plastered in his place. Sighed and twirled his body slowly facing her, “it’s criminal's blood. It doesn’t matter if it’s humans or creatures or animals or donors' blood. It’s for criminals.'' His words dumbfounded her.

She hummed as if she understood, but she actually didn’t. Or maybe she only wanted to convince herself that king Valdo was the same as the very olden days when they used to be mates.

She smiled, remembering the past, and mumbled loudly, talking to herself, “we’re still mates. Nothing has changed.”

The king looked at her, hopes made his heartbeat higher; his feet dragged him to her, “really? We’re still mates?”

She blinked, opened her mouth, and nodded, “sort of. Why don’t you tell me everything that happened in the last twenty years first?”

She wanted to divert the subject. But she also wanted to know everything.

He was delaying the story because he was still afraid she might reject him.

“can we dance first?” he asked, stretching out his hands to her. She glanced at his hands then stepped nearer —leaving no gap at all between them. There was no music in the blood-room. There were no lights at all—Only them. And their hearts and their souls.

She checked his face slowly, moving her hand gently to his brows and his nose and his lips and his jaw, then sighing, “you’re still the same. You didn’t get old at all.”

He chuckled, “yes. I guess it’s the benefit of being immortal. So, do you still like me?”

She smiled lightly, opening her heart to him and letting her mouth express everything, “you're still the most handsome man I’ve ever seen. You’re still the one I loved. And you know that I am still in love with you. I just—”

She paused, stuttered a bit; he cut her off, “you’re free to leave. But let me tell you that I was always around you. I worked as a gardener in your castle. I disguised in old man clothes, and I wore an artificial face. Something a makeup artist helped me with. I was always there.”

She started to remember that an old-Gardner didn’t appear for a few days, and she was always suspicious about him. Because she wasn’t able to smell his scent even for once. She wasn’t able to hear his voice because he acted like a mute and deaf. But by looking and listening to Valdo's words, she recognized him.

She murmured, feeling stupid already, “damn! How couldn’t I have noticed you around?! how couldn’t I smell the scent of my mate?!”

He wrapped his arms around her waist and brushed the tip of his nose to her cheeks, fanning her ears with his warm breaths and tickling her sensations with his husky voice, “but actually, you did. You always said while walking in the garden that you feel that Valdo is around and that he can hear you and see you.”

And indeed she did. Practically daily.

She raised her brows, amused, “yes. And I thought I was losing my mind.”

He shrugged, twirling her in a cheering dance, “well. Good news is you're not losing your mind. Because I am here.” and he twisted her back to his chest, leaning and giving her lips a kiss. But she turned her head away, “no. Tell me first everything.”
