C187 Beyond Limits!(2)
"The thing is... this messed-up rule is tied to people. Otherwise, we could have just killed him, taken his weapon, and found another teammate!" the archer chimed in.
"Enough... what's the point of saying all that? Since this is our fate, let's just give it our all!" said the swordsman, clearly the most skilled among them, possibly an Advanced or even Peak Martial Master. With his words, the other three fell silent.
After all, the rules were set. If Woo Zhengyang died, their weapons would lose the power of death's essence. So, not only could they not harm Woo Zhengyang, but they also had to protect him, which was what frustrated them the most—having an unwanted burden.
Woo Zhengyang watched everything with a cold eye. Once everyone stopped talking, he spoke up, "Do you all want to make it to the end?"
"Of course! Who doesn't want to make it to the end?" the student from the Martial Academy snapped.
"If you want to make it to the end, start listening to me from now on!"
"Listen to you? Who do you think you are? Listening to you is a joke..." the archer, with a sneer in his voice, retorted.
"I'm curious, where does your confidence come from?" the swordsman asked, staring directly at Woo Zhengyang.
"I know formations. Is that enough?"
"Formations!" At this, all four of them were visibly moved.
In a team fight, the importance of formations can't be overstated. Without understanding formations, the five of them might end up hindering each other, only able to unleash the power of three or four people. But with a joint attack array, they could exceed their usual strength, possibly even doubling it.
"You're just a kid. Don't think reading a few beginner books on formations makes you an expert!" the archer scoffed.
"Exactly... If you really knew formations, you'd be famous at the Heavenly Martial Academy. How come I've never heard of you?" the academy's spearman chimed in skeptically.
"First! I am a master of formations, believe it or not. Second, I'm not from your country. I only borrowed the identity of a Heavenly Martial Academy student that day."
"A master of formations! And I'm the king of formation masters!" the archer retorted, even more incredulous.
Woo Zhengyang was speechless. He hadn't even claimed to be a grandmaster, yet they still found it hard to believe.
"I actually think he's telling the truth!" came an unexpected voice from the usually quiet woman wielding a hammer.
As everyone turned to her, she continued, "Think about it, how strong were the opponents you just faced?"
"Weak as anything! I took them down with a single strike!" the spearman boasted.
"Exactly... My opponent was average too. But consider this: how could a few average fighters stand out among the elite disciples of so many sects and make it to the end? A joint attack formation is the only explanation."
Her words made the others stop and think.
"Alright! From now on, he's the boss. Anyone who doesn't listen to him is against me!" the swordsman declared decisively, making up his mind.
"I believe none of us would joke around with our lives, so I have no objections!" said the woman with the hammer.
The remaining two were the most critical of Woo Zhengyang, yet they were also the weakest in the group. With the others having spoken, they naturally fell silent, though their gazes toward Woo Zhengyang still held a hint of disdain.
"If you act insincerely and can't work together, even if I'm a master of arrays, we won't make it to the end!" Woo Zhengyang warned them.
"Kid, what do you want from us? We're ready to follow your lead! Do you expect us to kneel and beg for your forgiveness?" grumbled the student from the Martial Academy, who wielded a spear.
"Yeah, don't push it!"
"No need for that!" Woo Zhengyang replied with a slight smile. "To earn your trust, how about I take on both of you in a fight?"
"A fight?"
"Against both of us?"
The two looked as if they'd seen a ghost, wondering if they'd misheard.
"That's right. If you both team up and still can't beat me, then I suppose there won't be any more objections, right?"
"Team up? Can't beat you?" This time, not only the two of them but even the others thought Woo Zhengyang was overestimating himself.
These two, though just beginner martial artists, were quite formidable. Especially the one with the spear, an inner disciple of the Martial Academy, wielding a weapon comparable to a spiritual artifact, capable of challenging even mid-level martial artists.
Yet, this self-proclaimed master of arrays, a mere martial disciple, dared to challenge them both at once.
Does this guy really think that just because he defeated one Martial Master, he can dismiss all of them?
