C18 Being friends

It's been over a month since Alexis and Steve have been friends and they've been going on regular dates, hangouts, picnics and gradually she randomly acts as Steve's girlfriend on occasions. To say she doesn't feel anything for Steve is an understatement but she didn't understand why no matter how she brought up issues concerning who his family is,he shuts her down. The best thing she had to do was fake it all up and act as if she doesn't feel anything for him. In fact Steve has been a nice guy to her and she wouldn't trade their friendship for anything but she always made sure not to include their professionalism with anything.

“So what are you trynna say Charles”, Steve asked while constantly tapping his table. “I'm saying the information I had indicates that your father has nothing to do with her dad's death. Chill bro but I'm still trynna figure who will do that cause I don't really know who was after the company”. Charles replied. “This is gonna be really hard than I thought but we can't lose hope now,try to find who was behind all this and framed my father for it because from what I know Alexis thinks my father planned everything”. Charles sighs. “I will try my best though but I wanted to ask, doesn't she have any distant family for all we know it could be anyone of them aside the cooperative companies who was working with the dad". “Lets not draw conclusions without facts Charles. Call me when you get proper information. You may take your leave". “Are you trynna dismiss me from your office Charles but I'm not done yet". Charles scoffed. “Don't test my patience Charles else you wouldn't like it”. Charles laughed and clutched his heart feigning hurt. Steve shot him a warning glance and he left.

Ring ring ring, Alexis phone rang. She picked it without a glance at the number. “Hello". “Hello Alexis". “Steve to what do I owe this surprise”. “Can we meet and talk, I think we might have a lead on this case and it's been a while since we hanged out as friends"

“No problem just text me the venue”. Alexis replied. “Don't be late”, Steve said. “Alright sure ". Steve hanged up and focused on the documents infront of him. “May I come in”. Kelsey asked while opening the door gently. “You know you don't have to ask right". Steve smirked. “Well at least you care about me". Kelsey replied sarcastically. Steve shot her a glance and refocused on the documents infront of him.

Kelsey slightly tapped his table to get his attention. Steve shot her the “don't fucking interrupt me" look. Kelsey pouted.

“I just need a favor from you and I know you can do it so don't say no". “What is it?. Hope you ain't in any sort of trouble with that mouth of yours". Steve stifled a laugh. “Not this time around, I just want you to accompany me to my high school reunion". Kelsey pouted like a kid. “What I do there?, I hope you ain't gonna introduce me as your boyfriend like you did the previous years at the party”. “I cross my heart”. Steve laughed at Kelsey's expression. “When is the time". “I knew you won't disappoint me". Kelsey smiled. “Tonight at 6pm prompt". Steve scratched the back of his head. “I'm sorry but I ca...”. “Stop! I don't wanna hear it" Kelsey frowned. “But I didn't finish". Steve tried to reason.

Kelsey stood up not waiting to listen to any explanation. “Goodbye", she said as she banged the door. “She's so impossible”. Steve shook his head. “What are you fuming about Kelsey?". Nina asked. “Could you imagine Steve stood me out, he refused to go with me. How I'm I gonna show off that I'm better than them". Kelsey explained. “You will be fine don't worry, just trust me".

“Let's wait somewhere and follow Steve's car to know what was so important to him that he rejected you.". Nina tried to reason. “That's a great idea". Kelsey smiled. “I'm pretty sure Steve has gotten a girlfriend". Kelsey thought out loud. “That lady is gonna be sorry for herself if it's really so". “Let's wait and see,it might not be what we think it is". Nina said.

“Omg it's almost time" Alexis said while grabbing a floral dress with matching pair of heels. She hurried into the bathroom to take a quick shower. She wore the dress and the heel in a hurry. “My hair is a total mess, I will just let it loose". Alexis thought. “No need for make up,I look perfectly fine", she said as she starred at herself in the mirror.

“Quick follow him, hurry Nina", Kelsey said. “We are gonna get caught if you don't keep quiet". Kelsey frowned. They followed Steve till he arrived at a restaurant and he stopped and got out. “A restaurant, really, who is Steve meeting". Kelsey asked Nina. “How will I know",Nina replied. “A car is coming,we better park at the car park". Nina whispered. “Wait a minute I think I know this girl". Kelsey thought. “It's Alexis, what's she doing here. I hope it's not what I'm thinking because no one can take Steve from me". Kelsey said. “It might be a coincidence,chill". Nina replied. “Just give me my mask, I need to follow her closely". Kelsey demanded. “Don't get yourself caught". Nina advised. “Trust me I won't, I'm an actress for crying out loud. I can do this, it's now or never". “What if your high school mates calls you". “Don't pick, I don't want stress. Just leave me alone and wait patiently for me".

“Hope I'm not too late". Alexis asked. Steve smiled. “You are right on time, I just came in". Alexis nodded. “So what do we do now”. Alexis asked. “Not here, not yet. Wait after the meal,we talk”. Steve smirked. “Fine you win". Alexis giggled. “So what do you want to eat". Steve asked. “Anything is fine by me". Alexis replied. “Sure then". “Waiter!", Steve called out.

“What can I get you sir", the waiter replied.

“What's your top delicacy here,get me two sets". Steve answered. “Well noted".

Alexis giggled at Steve's seriousness. “Why are you laughing, it's something funny on my face", Steve asked. Alexis shook her head. “It's fine if you don't wanna say it". Steve smirked.

“Miss what can I get you",a waitress asked Kelsey as she spotted her sitting down all by herself. “Get lost", she shouted. “Damn, this nutritionist has eaten more than she could chew. I never knew she could stab me in the back like that. Let's wait and see who's boss, she's gonna regret". Kelsey stood up in anger and left the restaurant. “Let's go Nina". Alright sure.

“It's that who I think I saw", Alexis thought. “What's with that expression, you seem lost in thoughts". “Nothing". “If you don't want to talk about it it's fine". “Well, when was the last time you saw your father's younger brother". Steve asked. “A week before my parents' death, why do you ask". Alexis asked. “So far per the information we have, he has something to do with it but he's not the only one". “That's a lot to take in". Alexis gasped.

“I have to go Steve,we will talk. I want to clear my head a bit". Alexis said. “But the food is not yet in"Steve replied. “Sorry about that, I will make it up to you". Steve nodded. Alexis know kissed him goodbye and left. “Sir your meal is ready", the waiter called out. “Cancel it, this is the money for the bill". Steve placed it on the counter and left.
