C1 She's Born Blind

In a dim-light labor room, a young woman in her early 20s -laid weakly on the hospital's stretcher, covered in beads of sweat as she tried to regain her breathing space.

The white door opened, sending in a wheeze of cleaning antiseptic into the room, A middle-aged man with a thin-rimmed glasses and a lab-coat on -trudged in.

He walked over to the tubes attached to her, hands twirling around with it for some while as he administered the dark-yellow liquid into the drip with a syringe.

He turned towards her to check on her vitals with his stethoscope.

She looked up at him, mouth opening and closing, finding it hard to speak.

"You shouldn't stress yourself out, the substance is still present in your bloodstream." The doctor spoke out, giving her a small smile after taking note on her struggle.

She shook her head lightly. "T-the B-babies?" She mustered up some energy, her voice coming out weak and scratchy.

The doctor gave her a look of pity. "You need to recover-"

She cut him off, giving him a look of plea -lips quivering as her eyes turn moist with tears. "P-please"

She knew already what the outcome of her selfishness would be, but she still needed to hear it -despite her regrets, it was beginning to eat her to the core.

The doctor let out a deep sigh -shaking his head as he took up his clip-board, scribbling something on it.

"What would you like to receive first? The good news or the bad news?" He asked her, eyes still on the clip-board -avoiding contact. Despite being a doctor for so many years, giving bad news wasn't a specialty of his.

A tear fell from her as she sniffs. "B-ad P-please"

He nodded, pulling out his glasses from his eye -stuffing it into his coat-pocket. "We lost one of the babies due to suffocation from the drugs on the way here -he died in the womb."

Tears she was trying to retain for so long escape profusely. Loud sniffs could be heard from within the room.

He ran his hand through his neatly-combed hair, letting out a deep sigh. "The good new.... One of the babies made it out alive -but with a defect. " He cut short his words in distress.

"W-hi-ch is? "

"She has Retinopathy, A common side-effect that normally develops due to the premature growth in the retina"

"S-she?! " She looked up surprised, when she had gone for check-up she was told they were both male.

The doctor nodded. "You had both different genders"

"Would she b-be alright?".

"We're sorry, we can't be sure due to her being born prematurely, but it can be corrected at an older age through an eye donation. " His voice came out monotonously.

"You need to get some rest, the nurse will check up on you later" he said before striding out emotionlessly out the door, not waiting for a statement from her.

She curled herself into a blanket as the tears kept coming, recalling each and every step she took to kill the innocent kids in her womb.

She knew they would take her child away from her, this wasn't her first attempt in trying to kill her babies.

Self-disgust was the only thing she could feel at the moment.

She'd finally managed to kill one of her babies, while putting the other in a critical position.

She'd thought, getting rid of the babies would finally bring peace to her but all she could feel at the moment was just this heart-rending pain.

She had to do something quick.

Something before they took her baby away from her.

And that had to be tonight!.
