C10 I Believe You

Just as Li Huang was going to say something, a deep voice sounded from behind the small child. "Xi Fou, why are you so reckless?" There was an exasperated yet loving tinge to the man's voice, alerting the young boy.

Xi Fou turned around, and a sheepish smile graced into his lips.

"Dad, I'm sorry," he quickly apologized. "I was just so excited to see Great-Grandpa that I ran so fast and bumped into Auntie. I didn't mean to leave you in the car! I swear!"

"Am I the one you have to apologize to?"

"I..." He then turned back to Li Huang, who was still squatting in front of him. Ducking his head, his shoulders sagged humbly. "Auntie, I'm sorry for bumping into you."

"I should be the one apologizing. After all, I wasn't able to see you bumping in." She laughed lightly. "Did I hurt you? Are you okay?"

Xi Fou gazed at the gentle Aunt as if he was staring at an angel. Although they had just met, he liked her already!

"I'm not hurt! I'm fine."

"Xi Fou had just finished his class, so he immediately raced here to see his great grandfather." Xi Muhee stepped forward, gazing down at her. "I'm sorry that he had run into you."

Xi Muqian said nothing in response. Instead, he glanced at Li Huang. "Let's leave."

"It's really no problem." With one last nod, she stood up and waved at the father-and-son duo before leaving with Xi Muqian. However, the bewilderment of seeing the young boy still hadn't faded.

Even after taking a few more steps, she couldn't help but glance back at their retreating figures.

At that moment, Xi Muhee had also turned his head. Their gazes met, and there seemed to be a troubling glint flashing over his eyes. But it quickly disappeared.

She was just about to nod her head in greeting.

But before she could, he had already turned his head to the side as if nothing had happened. He immediately pulled Xi Fou into the house, looking as if he had just seen a ghost.

"What are you looking at?"

"Nothing." She hummed. "The kid just looked so much like me when I was younger. Makes me remember my own childhood."

Looks like her? Don't all children look alike?

Upon seeing the disbelief marring his expression, she nudged him on the sides. "If you don't believe me, I can show you a picture of me dancing in boy's clothes back when I was in kindergarten," she teased. "I really look like the kid."

"I believe you."

"Hm...maybe the kid's mother and I look alike."

Suddenly, his face turned serious. "You shouldn't compare yourself to bad people."

Of course. There had been rumors that Xi Fou's mother was a woman from the red light district–a prostitute. However, she simply shrugged in reply. "I was just trying to say that the kid was adorable, and since we look alike, I'm also adorable. Don't you think?"

Xi Muqian shook his head and smiled. If that was true, then it wouldn't be bad for Xi Fou.

Perhaps Xi Muhee's only luck was to raise an extremely cute son.

It was just that...the child didn't look like his mother at all.

On the way home, Li Huang was back to her half-blind state as she struggled to hold onto the fabric of his clothes. The darkness shadowed around her with each step she took.

There, so many thoughts rushed into her mind.

One of them included the fight that had happened back at the dining table.

"Mr. Xi," she slowly said. "If the Shao Group released the new product first, will it affect the revenues of Dihao Group?"

"It won't affect them materially, but you've seen how they've reacted. I shouldn't let them win," he said easily.

She nodded.

If the Shao Family won, then Xi Ru and her husband would be very pleased. Although they may not be happy about their grandfather's wrath, it would demonstrate how human Xi Muqian was–that he was also capable of making mistakes.

"Then what do you plan on doing?"

"Simple. We have to find Mr. YY," he responded. "The next step is to prevent the Shao Family from releasing those products. Even if they were to release the products first, our products would have better design and effectiveness that the public wouldn't even give them a second look."

Her heart suddenly raced in her chest. "YY is hard to find."

"I have a trump card."

"What is it?"

The corners of his lips twitched up. "You."

"Me?" She froze, glancing in his direction.

Although she couldn't see clearly, she could tell that Xi Muqian still had something more to say. Her heart skipped a beat as she looked up at him.

Upon seeing her panicked expression, he raised his eyebrows. "Didn't you set up a firm that helps rich people solve their problems? Think of me hiring you to help me find YY," he stated in a matter-of-fact way.

"You've investigated my background, huh?"

"You'd do the same if an unfamiliar woman burst into your gates and say that she wanted to marry you."

Right...Investigating her background was normal compared to what she had done.

"My firm's not as large as you think," she slowly said. Although she had built it from the ground-up, there are still some problems that they couldn't fix. "I'm not as influential as you might think."

"I've heard a woman who knows a lot of blackmail materials about wealthy families," he mused, not answering her lack of confidence. "Isn't that you?"

"I..." She swallowed. "It's me–but–"

"Then we've agreed over something. My only request is for YY to join our research team. Whatever price he wants, no matter how much he asks for, just agree to it," he stated. "There's no need to ask for my opinion."

What did he just say? What the heck was she going to do? As for that YY...

The two headed back in silence. Neither of them mentioned what Li Huang planned to do or what Xi Muqian had ordered her to do.

It was as if their conversation never happened.

When she returned home, she quickly went for a shower. Once she was finished, she walked out to see Xi Muqian lying on the bed. His hands were on a new book.

Well, on the bright side, he was silent.

Unlike yesterday, Li Huang took the initiative to walk to the bed. she sat on the spot where she had slept last night.

"I'll be sleeping first," she said softly. "Good night."

"Sleep?" Xi Muqian plopped his book on his nightstand before lowering his face on hers. "Have you forgotten to do something else for me?"
