C7 The Same Tone
Joan was momentarily flustered as Mo Kai released her and gracefully walked away.
In the underground parking lot, Joan clutched a document, her eyes fixed on the VIP vehicle lane. A black Rolls-Royce rolled out, and Joan darted towards it. The car screeched to a halt, grazing her leg.
The assistant, Gao Yi, looked tense. "Sir, someone’s blocking the car."
Mo Kai's expression was dark.
A soft tapping sounded on the car window. Mo Kai glanced up. Outside, a woman with a sheen of sweat on her forehead held up a slender finger, mouthing, "Give me a minute."
The window slowly rolled down.
"Miss Joan, I thought I made myself clear," Mo Kai said coldly.
"Mr. Mo, this is my proposal. Could you at least take a look?" Joan's tone was no longer flippant; it was almost sincere.
She handed the document through the window. Mo Kai gave her a brief look, took the document, and tossed it aside.
"Drive," he ordered coolly.
As the car resumed its journey, Mo Kai's sharp gaze lingered on the woman in the black dress in the rearview mirror, her exposed skin almost glowing white.
"Sir, are we heading back to the residence or...?"
"Hibiscus Garden."
"And today's news?"
"Make sure it’s handled."
In the dim light, Mo Kai's well-defined hand gently swirled the vodka in his glass, his eyes slightly narrowed.
The drink burned going down, as fiery as that woman.
Outside, a carpet of hibiscus flowers lay scattered on the ground.
The man standing by the window let his thoughts drift away, a voice echoing in his mind: "Sir, shall I tell you a story?"
That voice and tone were exactly like the woman's today.
The next day.
Inside Fuyang Corporation.
"Ms. Qiao, the boss is on a rampage again. Be careful," Xiaoya, the assistant, warned as she intercepted Jo Ann on her way to the meeting room.
"Bring it on. I'm not worried," Jo Ann replied, gently patting Xiaoya's shoulder before pushing open the meeting room door.
The atmosphere inside was tense, everyone sitting upright, while the boss, Dai Ming, looked furious.
"Good morning, everyone," Jo Ann greeted with a smile.
Seeing her, Dai Ming grabbed the file in front of him and threw it.
Jo Ann sidestepped it.
"Jo Ann, you really have no boundaries, do you? Don't drag Fuyang down with your reckless behavior!"
Jo Ann pondered, how did the news spread so fast?
"Who is Wang Hee? The general manager of Huachen Medicine. And who are you to think you can get involved with him?!"
Jo Ann looked at Dai Ming's flushed face, bewildered. Wang Hee?
Suppressing a chuckle, she picked up the papers from the floor. "It's just Wang Hee. Is it worth getting so worked up, Mr. Dai?"
"Look! Is this your doing?" Dai Ming demanded, pointing at the documents Jo Ann had picked up, his voice seething with anger.
Joanne glanced down at the documents, her lips curling into a smirk. "Wow, that's brutal."
The data showed that Fuyang was eliminated in the first round of bidding for this collaboration. Typically, the first round doesn't see eliminations. Being knocked out so early not only means losing face but also getting blacklisted by the client.
Recently, the only one who confidently claimed they would secure this project was Joanne.
"What a waste of my all-nighter!" Joanne grumbled in frustration.
Wu Yao, who joined the company at the same time as Joanne, suddenly spoke up. "Mr. Dai, I heard Mo Kai from the Mosheng Group is back in the country. If we can get his approval, securing a partnership should be a breeze."
"Who?" Dai Ming's eyes lit up.
"Mo Kai from the Mosheng Group?!" Dai exclaimed in disbelief.
"Yes, he's definitely back. My cousin mentioned he attended a forum yesterday, but Mosheng Group didn't publicize it, so the public is unaware."
"Mr. Dai, how about you let me handle this project? From what I know, Mr. Mo will be meeting with the Swiss SRI delegation next week," Wu Yao suggested cautiously.
Joanne paused, her hand hovering over the page.
Dai Ming's eyes sparkled with interest. "Really, Yao Yao? The SRI delegation is in Kang City? And you know Mo Kai? Then you should..."
"No," Joanne interrupted.
This project is hers for the taking!
"Someone else cleans up your mess, and you should be grateful, Joann. You better know your place. Do you really think you're all that?"
"I'm not handing over this project," Joann replied, her tone firm and unyielding.
"Fine, you and Wu Yao will compete for it. Joann, if you succeed, the project remains yours. If not, the marketing manager position goes to Wu Yao, and you're out!"
Dai Ming slammed his chair back and stormed out, slamming the door behind him in anger!
Everyone shot Joann a look of blame before following him out.
Joann understood Dai Ming and the others' frustration. Being blacklisted by Huachen meant that Fuyang, already struggling, was in even deeper trouble.
Still, she couldn't figure out why Mo Kai, after reviewing her proposal, not only didn't change his mind but also blacklisted Fuyang outright.
It was like a slap in the face!
She had to get an explanation!
Joann picked up her files and stood, only to be blocked by Wu Yao.
"Manager Joann, why are you so stubborn? Admitting defeat once in a while isn't shameful."
Joann looked up, "In front of a defeated opponent, admitting defeat doesn't exist."
With that, she raised an eyebrow and casually walked around him.
"Joann, do you really think the marketing department can't function without you? This time, I'll make sure you lose fair and square!"
Joann paused, her tone calm, "Well, I'll be watching."
After speaking, Qiao Ann realized her tone sounded just like a certain man's.
