“I came all the way here to prove that I am better than you, bitch!” the gang laughed, but she seemed to be offended by that, but who the hell care? I can kill her right away if she gets on my nerves!

The waiter served our drinks, were staying at the top flat, or well-known VIP slot, I can see from my place the entire bar, most of them were on the dance floor, acting like a dumb wild animal, low-class bitches; I wanted to enjoy, but this company is giving me boredom. I shouldn’t have come here.

I’m roaming my eyes when I caught someone interesting, a fucking hottie, I want him. I can smell him from here, even with the mixture of alcohol and cigarette smoke, his minty sweat is dominating, I want him. I stood up, and without a word, I followed him, he was exiting the bar, and I want him inside me.

“You okay, Vera?” I came back from my reverie when I heard someone lightly tapped my shoulder.

“Y-yeah,” I answered, unsure if I am really okay, “What’s up?”

“We have to attend an annual reporting, there will be some changes with the job orders,” she looked at her wrist watch, “It’s about to start,” I nodded and stood up, I grab my mini pad, just in case I have to take notes for the meeting.

We are all gathered in the function room, if I’m not mistaken there are three departments inside the room, it’s been just months after I started working here, so, I’m not sure what to do and the agenda of this meeting, but since it said to be an annual meeting, employees must be used to it.

The meeting revolved around the company’s development, and also the upcoming events and other charity services, and one of them caught my attention.

“We came up with the idea of reaching children who do not have access to education, for the preparation of our newest campaign, with that, will there be anyone who is willing to participate, anyone can volunteer, regardless of the position you are handling right now,” Miss Leila said, I immediately raise my hand to grab her attention, “Oh, you want to participate, Vera?”

“Yes, miss,” I love teaching, it just so happens that I want to prove to my past that I don’t need any of them to succeed, “I can do it with or without partner,”

She nodded and wrote my name on the board, “Who else?” no one raised their hand other than mine, so, I guess, it will be just me, “Will that be fine with you? We will be covering all the expenses and pay you with the same salary,”

I nodded, “Yes, miss,”

“Okay, come to my office after the meeting for the further details,” she stood up and grab her things, scattered on her table, “That’s all for today, dismiss,”

“Of course, I’ll be alright, come on, I’ll hang up, I’m driving, okay, okay,” I bid my goodbye to my closest friend, Ariella.

Today, I’m going to the village I was assigned to go to, I’m so excited that I didn’t even sleep a blink, for the past months of working a corporate job, I can’t deny the fact that I missed my old job, which is teaching.

I left the city, around four thirty in the afternoon, I just finish my job, and I immediately packed my things, good for how many days, just in case. It’s seven forty-five in the evening, and my maps said that the village is three hours away from where I am.

Good thing, I have some stocked gas behind my car, I didn’t know this village is way too far, on the other hand, I’m sad, that they are so far from civility, that even education can’t get through with them, I guess, life is really that unfair.

“Oh, oh,” My phone suddenly showed its low battery icon, and in just a second, it died, “Goodness, how am I going to know the place without my tracker?” I grab my bag and looked for my charger cord, I’m not sure if I was able to bring it with me, “Fuck,”

Good lord, I don’t have a cord for fuck sake, of all things, why should I forget that freaking important thing? Dumb brain, it’s no use.

I sighed, “I have no choice, then,” I grabbed the two-hand carry bag from the passenger seat, and slung my bag to my shoulder, I got my car keys and wore my sneakers.

the road is so dark, it has some unfinished pavements, and tall old trees, the wind was so chilly, and there is no one around, except for some crows, roaming around, I switch on my flashlight and started to walk, “If I walk now, I’ll be there before sunrise,”

I’m not a fan of scary things, I have been through a lot of some real demons, and a mere ghost won’t scare me, I’ve been through hell. So walking alone in this dark place is nothing. Jeez, I should have asked someone to come with me, but then, I’m not used to bothering other people if I can do it alone.

I’d been walking for around half an hour when I felt something odd, I didn’t know what it is, but my mind kept shouting Danger, I looked around, there was nothing, maybe my mind is just playing with me, but then, my stomach was hurting, like it’s twitching, fuck, I might throw up in this case.

“Look what we got here,” I froze, I heard a voice from behind, I immediately turn around and look for that voice, but there was no one, but I can’t be mistaken, I heard a voice, a human voice.

“Hmm, fresh blood, we must be lucky to find one,” another voice spoke, “This must be exciting,”

“She’s feisty, for walking down here, alone, with only just a tiny light,”

“Who the fuck are you?” I answered instead, I can hear the wind gushing near me, like someone is running just in front of my face, it was more chilly, and my feeling of being in danger overcome my rational thoughts.

In an instant, three tall men stopped ten feet away from me, I can hear their sinister laugh, like they saw someone they can play with, “Well, you wouldn’t want to know, were nobody to our race and tribes,”

“However, enough with the talk, we are famished, and thank you for bringing yourself to our delicious dinner, we are delighted and honored,”

My heart is pounding, I didn’t know, I still have some fears left in my body, I thought, I drained for the past years, “No, you can’t kill me,”

“Oh, says who? We can, and we will,” they suddenly disappeared in my eyes, that scares me more than I knew.

“I’ve been looking for you guys,” a voice near my ear spoke. In an instant, I saw one of the guys being choked by the new guy, he was thrown to I don’t know where, “You can’t just run away, and scare humans, that’s unfair,”

With my shaky hands, I pointed the light to them, and that was the time I got to see them right in front of me.

Red eyes

And the guy who’s choking them looked just like a normal human, like me, like any other else, but his presence is shouting authority, he’s a nobody, he is someone you should offer your respect.

The man looked at me, with dead eyes, “These are called rogue vampires, and they are planning to make you their dinner since it’s hunting season,” he was having a casual conversation with me while fist-fighting with the three guys, who seemed no match to him, “What’s your name?”

“V-Vera,” I answered, still looking at them, afraid that if I blink, they will just grab me and drain my blood.

“Nice to meet you, Vera, I’m Max,” he nodded, “I’ll just finish this up,”
