"Alexander," Bernice whispered, shaking, her fingers tracing his hand.

His eyelids moved and in that moment, she held her breath. Then he gave a sleepy yet determined blink; Alexander opened his eyes to the dim light of the hospital room, his head moving slow until it fell upon her, and his lips spread with a gentle weak smile.

"Bernice…," he rasped low, strained, yet unmistakably alive.

"Oh
