C19 Business Was Good
It's clear there's a difference between us.
Xue Ning was surprised by how well the business was doing. In less than half an hour, they sold out of everything Aunt Wang had prepared.
“Sorry, everyone, we're sold out for today. If you want some, come early tomorrow,” Xue Ning announced, prompting a chorus of disappointed sighs as many people walked away.
Behind the food cart, Aunt Wang's hands trembled as she collected the money. “My son's tuition is covered now. Thank you so much, young lady. Here, take this.”
Aunt Wang kept a little for herself after setting aside the tuition and handed the rest to Xue Ning. “Could you help me again tomorrow? We can split the earnings 70-30, with you taking the 70.”
At this rate, even 30% would be quite profitable for her.
“Aunt Wang, you're too kind,” Xue Ning said, savoring the last box of grilled tofu. Suddenly, she spotted a familiar figure.
In a flash, she stashed the box under the cart and placed the money where Aunt Wang would surely find it later. “Thank you, Aunt Wang, but I have something urgent to attend to. I need to go now.”
She hadn't expected to run into Xue Ya here. While she wasn't afraid of her, this was still school, and drawing a crowd wouldn't be ideal.
It wouldn't affect her much—her reputation here was already poor, so another incident wouldn't matter. But Aunt Wang still needed to run her business, and affecting that would be a real shame.
Xue Ya was reluctantly dragged by her roommate to the stall, only to find out everything was sold out. She rolled her eyes dramatically and glanced to the side, spotting a woman sneaking away.
Xue Ning? It must have been her imagination. Why would that troublemaker Xue Ning be here?
"I recorded it. The Tofu Beauty is just stunning," said a passing male student, eyes glued to his phone screen, unable to look away.
"Hey there, could I take a look too? I came with my roommate to buy some, but it's all gone," Xue Ya asked, not needing to bat an eyelash before the guy eagerly handed over his phone.
Even though the woman in the video wore a baseball cap pulled low, Xue Ya recognized her immediately—it was Xue Ning! Since when did she have such a knack for this?
Meanwhile, Xue Ning wandered aimlessly down the street, filled with regret. Why had she given all her money back to Aunt Wang? She could have kept a few bucks for bus fare. Now, with her stomach full but pockets empty, what was she supposed to do?
Screech—
A black Maybach suddenly blocked her path. The window rolled down to reveal a face as cold as ice—the last person she wanted to see.
"Get in," Lu Bai ordered, his expression stern and eyes filled with menace.
She wasn't that foolish; she knew exactly what she had done just now. Getting in the car now would be like signing her own death warrant.
"If you're sure your two legs can outrun four wheels, go ahead and make your move."
Lu Bai, already aware of what Xue Ning was planning, gave her a warning look. "If you can't, I'll make you just like me."
A blatant threat!
He would really do it.
Xue Ning looked at her own long, slender legs, feeling a bit reluctant. "I'll get in the car, but you have to promise not to kill me. Give me a chance to explain."
The window rolled up, which was as good as a nod.
Xue Ning circled around and got in, flashing a cheeky grin. "So, how are you doing?"
"Still alive," Lu Bai replied. "You definitely have a knack for causing trouble."
"What a joke! I was just a cornered animal fighting back." It's always smart to play the underdog in front of someone stronger.
"The explosion has nothing to do with me. If you want, I can turn the evidence you have into something that looks just like you."
The implication was clear: with today's technology, it's not hard to make something fake look real.
Lu Bai ignored her words. He would investigate the truth, but for now—
He pointed to the phone on the mini bar. "Tell me, what's going on here?"
