C8 To be Scary

The shadow was short, just half a body, belonging to Lu Bai sitting in his wheelchair. His chest was filled with a raging anger that needed release. The time it took to unlock the door had drained his patience, and he was ready to turn the handle and push the door open in one swift motion.

He never expected that it wouldn't open and would cause such a commotion. The door handle inside was wrapped several times with chains, and on the other side, a heavy wooden cabinet was bound and secured with a padlock, making the door firmly locked. Opening it from the outside was no easy task.

Seeing that the equipment she bought from the hardware store worked, Xue Ning's eyes sparkled, and she finally breathed a sigh of relief. Given another chance, she wouldn't just sit and wait for her fate. This was a desperate measure, but necessary.

At this moment, Lu Bai was a menace. Falling into his hands would be a fate worse than death. Initially, Xue Ning didn't understand why Lu Bai tormented her, assuming it was because his disability had twisted his mind. Later, she learned the truth.

In the explosion, Lu Bai lost his best friend and his legs. All the evidence pointed to her afterward. But... she wasn't the culprit. She had been at the scene of the explosion, but only because a friend had invited her. Despite her countless explanations, she couldn't earn even a shred of Lu Bai's trust and was tortured even more severely. Until her death, the label of the explosion's perpetrator was pinned on her.

Until the end, she never knew who the real culprit was.

Thinking about the torment she endured in her past life sent chills down Xue Ning's spine. She wished she could just run away, far from everything. But right now, she couldn't do that; she was powerless.

The Xue family, like a leech, still hoped to use her to drain the Lu family, offering no help in her escape. She didn't even have enough money for a bus ticket, let alone a place to start over. Besides, she had witnessed Lu Bai's madness in her past life and doubted she could ever truly escape him.

Since running away wasn't an option, she decided to do the opposite and stay with the Lu family. She was clear about one thing: to escape Lu Bai, she had to clear her name and find the real culprit behind the explosion.

Xue Ning's eyes hardened with determination. Catching the real criminal seemed simple, but in reality, it was like reaching for the stars. The police hadn't figured it out, Lu Bai hadn't figured it out, and all the evidence pointed to her. If someone wasn't pulling the strings behind the scenes, it would be unbelievable!

Who was the mastermind behind it all? She didn't know.

After being wrongfully accused of the explosion, Xue Ning wanted to uncover the truth but found nothing. In this life, she was determined to find the real culprit, clear her name, and escape Lu Bai's clutches.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

The door suddenly rattled with heavy, forceful knocks, one after another.

Xue Ning's heart leapt into her throat as she stood on high alert. Outside the door, Lu Bai was frantically pushing and banging against it. He had exhausted all his patience and no longer cared to hide his intentions; he just wanted to get in and torment Xue Ning.

Lu Bai's willingness to marry her, instead of sending her to jail, was clear—he wanted her close by to unleash his anger. Thankfully, the chains were tightly secured, and the door held firm against his assault.

After a few seconds of silence, the sound of fists pounding on the door resumed, accompanied by low, suppressed growls. This wasn't a person; it was like a wild beast gone mad.

Xue Ning clutched the blanket tightly, feeling her breath catch in her chest, fear wrapping around her heart. Her nose tingled, her eyes stung, and tears welled up, threatening to spill over.

A drawn-out screech pierced the air. "Oh no!" she thought. In her line of sight, the heavy cabinet bracing the door began to inch backward. The chains were taut, but the door handle seemed to be loosening, on the verge of breaking.

Without a second thought, Xue Ning dashed over and braced herself against the cabinet, pushing back with all her might. After a tense moment, she managed to gain the upper hand, and the door closed once more.
