C9 The Poisonous Tongue!

Xue Ning pressed her back firmly against the cabinet, not daring to relax, bracing for the next impact from Lu Bai.

A deep voice broke the tension.

"A futile struggle."

Before the words fully registered, another powerful blow landed, nearly overwhelming Xue Ning's resolve. Sweat beaded on her forehead and back, soaking her clothes.

The force was immense. Her arms, shoulders, and back throbbed with pain and numbness. Gradually, her strength waned, and the door began to inch open.

As the door cracked, the sounds outside grew clearer. The rapid, beast-like breathing seemed to hover above her, sending chills down her spine.

"Lu Bai! Are you out of your mind? Do you even know what you're doing?"

A cold chuckle was the only response from outside.

I have to save myself! Xue Ning kept repeating to herself.

"Lu Bai! I'm not the one behind the bombing! You've got the wrong person!"

There was a pause outside.

Then came a hysterical question.

"How do you know I'm here because of the bombing?"

Xue Ning was momentarily speechless.

"Can't answer, huh? If it's not you, then who else could it be?"

As his words ended, another fierce blow struck, making her feel as if every organ in her body ached.

"I'm not the culprit! I've already called the police, so just wait for them to arrive!"

"You're actually calling the cops? A murderer calling the police—are you turning yourself in?"

Xue Ning stayed silent.

Turning myself in? Not a chance. It's all about survival.

"You won't call the police. You're just bluffing..." Lu Bai's voice was low and heavy.

But before he could finish, the sound of sirens blaring outside the villa interrupted him.

Lu Bai's tone was filled with disbelief, "You really called the police?"

Xue Ning bit her lip, refusing to speak. Then she heard the sound of a wheelchair rolling away and waited quietly. Lu Bai had left.

She finally let out a sigh of relief, knowing she was safe for the night.

Exhausted, she collapsed onto the floor, and something slipped from her grasp.

"Clang!"

It was a small hammer.

She had been clutching it ever since she was half-sitting on the bed.

Xue Ning had prepared for the worst—if the chains hadn't held Lu Bai back, she was ready to fight for her life.

By the time she left the police station, it was already 11 a.m.

Xue Ning was physically and mentally drained.

When the police arrived at the villa, she didn't mention the explosion. Instead, she said that during a marital argument, her husband had shown signs of violence.

The Lu family was influential, and in cases like these, the police typically just offered a verbal warning.

Xue Ning went to the police station because she was genuinely terrified and couldn't bear to stay at the villa, using her fear as an excuse to spend the night there.

After leaving the police station, Xue Ning had nowhere to go. She wasn't ready to return to the Lu family estate, so she just walked along the road, lost in thought.

After about ten minutes, a car suddenly stopped in front of her. A man in a black suit got out from the passenger side and shoved her into the back seat.

Xue Ning was startled and instinctively tried to escape, but a cold hand gripped the back of her neck. The icy touch sent a shiver down her spine, raising goosebumps all over.

Then, a familiar voice sounded in her ear.

"Why didn't you turn yourself in at the police station?"

It was Lu Bai!

Xue Ning froze instantly.

Lu Bai's other hand grabbed her chin, forcing her to turn and face him. Staring into his fierce eyes, only two words echoed in her mind—it's over.

She had finally fallen into his hands.

Forced to meet Lu Bai's gaze, Xue Ning felt a chill in her heart, terrified he might harm her.

Fortunately, Lu Bai wasn't as unhinged as he had been the previous night. Instead, he was like a snake watching its prey, ready to strike at any moment.

Lu Bai released Xue Ning, instructed the driver to start the car, and leaned back in silence.
