C8 Taking Care of Him

Life at the Jiang family estate was quite leisurely. In the vast mansion, there were only the staff and Yichen, who lay bedridden. Nowadays, the Jiang family wasn't as bustling as it used to be, with hardly any visitors dropping by.

Chuman couldn't sit still. Just a few days after arriving, she started asking the staff about the whereabouts of the caregiver. Her inquiries startled one of the maids so much that she dropped a plate with a loud clatter, nervously saying she needed to discuss it with someone.

Chuman frowned, wondering why the staff in this mansion seemed to have no say in anything and needed to consult on every matter. But, being new, she decided to let it go and waited patiently. It was only after a long wait that the caregiver finally arrived, slightly out of breath.

"You must work hard taking care of Yichen. I'm really concerned about his health. Would it be okay if I watched and learned while you care for him?"

The caregiver looked at her in shock, clearly not expecting this request. Stammering, she said she couldn't make that decision and needed to ask someone else.

Chuman thought to herself that this was unsurprising, filled with curiosity about whether there was someone else in charge in the mansion. She nodded suspiciously, and the caregiver visibly relaxed, wiping her brow before quickly leaving.

The caregiver returned with a positive response, choosing a sunny day to seriously guide Chuman into the patient’s room. Chuman paid close attention, learning how to feed a bedridden person, clean them to prevent bedsores, and how often to let them enjoy some sunlight.

While watching, she diligently took notes in a small notebook. Her eager expression made the caregiver's eyelid twitch, prompting even more careful movements. Finally, unable to hold back, the caregiver advised, "Miss Bai, the Jiang family is well-off and can afford caregivers."

"I know," Bai Chuman replied without looking up. "Yichen is my husband. I feel more at ease taking care of him myself. By the way, how many ounces of water did you say to feed him each day?"

The caregiver thought to themselves, "Trusting you to care for the young master is what really worries me," but dared not show it. With trembling hands, they continued to feed the young master bit by bit.

Suddenly, Bai Chuman looked up, observing the caregiver's every move, her face thoughtful. "The weather's nice today. How about I take Yichen for a walk in the garden?" she proposed unexpectedly.

The caregiver's hand paused noticeably, then resumed the task upon noticing Bai Chuman's gaze. "The young master's outings are scheduled. Today isn't a good day."

Bai Chuman narrowed her eyes, her smile innocent and harmless. "No worries, just a suggestion. No need to take it seriously."

Her smile sent a chill down the caregiver's spine, causing a shiver. They turned away silently, wishing someone would relieve them of this burden. They thought, "Whoever wants to be this caregiver can have it. What did I do to deserve this?"

Finally, after much persistence, Bai Chuman regained the privilege of taking care of Yichen while he basked in the sun. To aid his recovery, the villa was nestled deep in the mountains. Even in the height of summer, the temperature remained pleasantly cool, with birds chirping melodiously and the air crisp and fresh.

Bai Chuman adjusted the light blanket over Yichen's legs and positioned his head comfortably on a soft pillow. As someone with a compromised immune system, he was more susceptible to illness than most, making it crucial to be cautious.

Yichen's fair skin took on a gentle blush under the warm sunlight. His dark lashes cast shadows beneath his eyes, and his naturally curly chestnut hair was slightly tousled. The soft beige cotton loungewear he wore added to his serene appearance as he slept peacefully.

Carefully, Bai Chuman pushed his wheelchair along the stone path in the small garden. Suddenly, a pebble caused the chair to jolt, and Yichen's body tilted to one side.

Startled, she exclaimed, "Oh no, I'm so sorry! I hope I didn't scare you." She spoke to herself, her eyes never leaving Yichen's face. After a moment of observation and seeing no change, Bai Chuman gently righted him, secured him in place, and continued pushing along the path.

She couldn't help but wonder if she had guessed wrong.
