C5 Chapter 5

Mia woke up the next day with a massive headache and was glad when she saw a glass of water and some aspirin on her bedside table that morning. She smiled as she realised Nate must have put it there before he left for work.

She took the drugs and looked at the time on her phone. She still had hours before she needed to make it to the hospital. Her stomach growled so she decided to move to get something in her stomach. She settled for bacon and eggs which Nate had already prepared before he left and gulped down everything.

It was things like this that made it impossible to not crush on Nate. She was lucky none of their friends knew she had a crush on him. It was two months after Nate and her had become friends before she found out he was gay. The day she had found out was the day she had planned to confess. She wondered till this day how she had not known that Nate was gay.

She regretted everything that happened that day. She and Nate had gone out for drinks and we're sitting at the bar. She had been gathering the courage to tell him she had a crush on him when Nate let out a low whistle as his ex-fling Felix made his way into the bar.

Felix was a nice guy to look at. He had Bryce's build and looked intimidating at first glance but the thing was, he was a big softie. Mia really liked Felix for her friend and was hoping that even if she could not be with Nate, someone like Felix could be with him.

The relationship had only lasted one month before Nate had called it off. She did not know how many times they had slept with each other but seeing as Nate was not really a student at UCLA, she gathered not much.

The first day she had met Nate, they had both acted as middle men for their friends relationship. Nate had only stayed two days extra before he left but he had made sure to take her number and just like he said they had become the best of friends before he had left.

If Mia had told Bryce about her crush on Nate, maybe she would have known that he was actually interested in men and was a sucker for butts. Especially nice bubble butts.

Seeing Nate yesterday watching straight porn had stirred the memories she had wanted to keep hidden. She liked to believe that she had gotten over her crush with Nate but she knew very well that was not the case. She was not sure she would ever be able to get over him especially after he does things like preparing food for her in the morning.

She still remembered what had happened the previous night. She had volunteered to help Nate because hearing he was interested in another woman had sent a sharp pain through her chest.

Mia paused what she was doing when she realised what had happened the previous night. She had volunteered to help Nate with his issues regarding the woman he was crushing on.

She was flustered.

'What was I thinking?' she asked herself as she let her head fall on her kitchen table with a loud bang.

How did she expect she was really going to help Nate. Who even suggests something like that to the person you have a crush on?

These were thoughts going through Mia even as she stepped into the hospital for her shift. Some of the staffs noticed she was not her usual peppy self but when asked she just said it was nothing serious.

She could say she was a bit hung over from getting drunk the previous night but that would not really look too nice or professional on her part. She was working with human lives and as a nurse, she could not afford to make mistakes. It was like a taboo to make one. And her superiors even though she got along with them, they would not take it likely with her if she mad a mistake because she had been drinking the previous day.

She was busy immediately she stepped foot into the hospital and it was only after some hours that she was able to meet with Teresa who was actually getting off work.

"Why do you look like someone who is regretting everything she has ever done in this life?" Teresa said immediately as she saw Mia.

"Very funny."

"I am not joking. You have this 'kill me now' look about you."

"I'm not in the mood for your lame jokes today, Teresa."

"Hold up. My jokes are not lame. You love them and you know it. But I am serious here. Who did you offend? What crime did you commit? Are the police involved? Do I have to call the squad?" Teresa asked. The squad she said was referring to their friends.

"You do not have to call the squad Teresa. And the police are not involved. I just did something i now regret." Mia said as she moved into the cafeteria to get a chocolate bar or anything at all to eat.

"No police? That's lame." Teresa said with pouted lips.

"The last time we had an almost run in with the police, you fraked out. You left me to deal with it alone remember."

"Well I did not really let you deal with it alone. I was also in the car with you when they came." Teresa said to her.

Sometimes Mia wondered why she was friends with Teresa.

She actually knew why she was friends with her. Teresa was fun. If she was haveing a bad day, Teresa always lifted her spirits with her silly character. Teresa hardly took anything serious apart from work.

The day Mia was referring to was the day they had driven past a red traffic light. They were having fun and singing to some Taylor Swift songs. It was like a vacation for them.

When the police started trailing them and telling them to stop, Teresa started her hail Mary. She was so scared and kept on muttering she did not want to go to prison.

It was Mia who had apologized and spoke to the police. They were lucky there was no accident. Teresa clamped up when she was the police man so Mia had to explain everything to him.

"Yeah, you were. You were also praying remember.?" Mia asked with an eyeroll.

"I hate when you get sarcastic with me." Teresa said with a huff which made Mia laugh.

"By the way, we all make mistakes we regret later so do not beat yourself up little one." Teresa said to Mia with a pat on her shoulder.

"But have you ever made one that you feel will haunt you for life?" Mia asked Teresa.

Maybe she was exaggerating or being paranoid but she felt like what she had said to Nate the previous day was going to haunt her forever.

"Of course I have. I'm also making one right now by talking to you." Teresa told her.

"Very funny." Mia said with an eyeroll.

"I know, you so not have to tell me how funny I am. I am serious though. I may be making a mistake going after that Asian vet and may regret it later but who cares. I am enjoying it now as they say 'YOLO'"

"How is the vet? Has he made any intention of asking you out?" Mia asked her friend.

Teresa sighed and shook her head in the negative. She was not even sure he was interested in her but his Co workers were fun so she kept on going. And her pet dog, Kakashi liked going there. Mia was the one who had named the dog and so she gave it the name of one of her favorite characters from the anime, Naruto. A character who could also summon dogs.

"I have to go now by the way. Cheer up love." Teresa said immediately as she saw doctor Miles approaching them.

Doctor Miles had a crush on Mia and Teresa actually shipped them together. She felt he was better than most of the trash Mia had been dating.

"Why are you in a hurry?" Mia asked Teresa as her eyes narrowed.

"I have to give Kakashi his food you know."

"You always give him extra. I am pretty sure there is still enough food for him in his bowl." Mia said.

"Well you are not Kakashi are you? He may be missing me. Bye love." Teresa said as she gave Mia a kiss on the cheek.

She walked away fast like her life depended on it not turning to look at Mia even once.

"Hello Mia." Doctor Miles said as he got to her.

Mia groaned inwardly. She should have known that this was what Teresa was up to. Teresa thought she was okaying latch maker with her and Miles but Mia knew better. She was not interested in doctor Miles and was not sure she would ever be.

It was not news to anybody in the hospital that doctor Miles had a crush on Mia. Even the patients knew he likes her.

Mia remembered when old Mrs.

Knucklebuckets had given her advice on the type of man for her. It would have been good advice if not for the fact that the only good man for her according to the old lady was Miles.

'He is a good doctor. Why don't you date him Mia dear?'

Even the head nurse had sked Mia why she did not just go on a date with the 'handsome doctor Miles'.

It was even worse since Teresa also wanted them together. Although Teresa's reason had to do more with the fact that their ship name would be M&M.

Mia would have actually dated Miles if not for the fact that she thought he was trying to gain sympathy by telling every single soul in the hospital that he was interested in her.

Sure he was fine. His wavy brown her

complimented his gray eyes and his firm lips were nice to look at. He was not really physically fit not did he have abs like Bryce or Nate but he was tall and a bit lanky.

"Doctor Miles." Mia said in response to his greeting.

"How are you today?" He asked her.

"I am fine doctor Miles."

Mia was about to kill herself. He never talked about anything interesting. He was always asking the same questions over and over again. He should at least ask her out so that she would be able to turn him down.

"You looked out of it when you walked into the hospital this morning."

"Pardon?" Mia asked him.

"You were not your usual self this morning. You looked less energetic."

Mia rolled her eyes inwardly again. If only she could do it so he could see she was not really interested in his conversation.

Mia was sure he was not the one who noticed she had not been her usual self this morning. She was certain the receptionist had said a word to him. Or it could be Rose. A fellow nurse who had been a bit too positive for Mia that morning. Mia may have said a hurt word or two to her. She had meant to do it.

"Thank you for your care doctor Miles but as you can see I am my normal self " Mia told him calmly.

"I see. Well then." He said with a nod as he made his way out of the cafeteria.

"That was it?" Mia jumped as she heard someone ask a question beside her.

"Do not scare me like that Teresa. I thought you had gone home."

"Sorry. I did not mean to scare you. I came back to see what was going on. I have to admit though. That was one of the most boring conversations ever. I'm not even really sure he likes you after seeing that."

"Not like I care. I don't like him either." Mia said with a shrug.
