C6 It's already happening

Seeing Mabel in his room astounded Kevin to the core. Why on earth would the school sassy queen come all the way from school to his house? They were enemies at the moment. So why was she here? How did she even know where he lives? Did she stalk him?

Anger replaced his surprise. He didn't know how she got here but how dare she enter his room. "What are you doing here?" He asked.

Mabel clicked her tongue, smirking. "Is that how you welcome a guest?"

"The last time I checked you were never invited here. What are you doing in my room?"

Without answering, she sniggered and twirled some strands of her blond hair on her index finger. She didn't seem fazed by the cold or fog that was still spreading out.

"You better get out of here before I go get my mum." Kevin folded his arms feeling irritated by her presence.

"Don't bother. I'll leave after I accomplish what I came here for."

"What do you..." He didn't finish his statement before Mabel surprised him with a strange scene. She suddenly developed inhuman features.

As she stood still, her fair skin turned blue and her blond hair changed to white. Her eyes, both the white and colored part, changed to ice.

Kevin staggered back and stumbled on his bed with fear. The once beautiful Mabel now looked like an alien. "Ma...Mabel, what are you?"

"Now that you've seen my true form, you can stop calling me by my disguise name." Fog puffed out from her mouth as she spoke. "You may call me...Shivella."

"What do you want from me?" He asked with a shaky voice.

She smiled coldly at him which didn't help with the cold. "Your life." She started coming towards him.

Kevin got up and moved back until his back was against the wall. "Stay away from me you freaking creature."

He shivered. Ice and frost were already forming on the furniture and wall in his room with a crackling frosty sound. Fog emitted out from his mouth and nostrils as he exhaled and his hands were turning white from intense cold.

"Relax dear, this won't hurt a bit." Mabel said when she reached the middle of my room.

Kevin's heart was banging hard on his chest. He was scared. What kind of creature is before him? But he decided he won't go down without a fight. He would save himself.

He picked his pillow as he was near the bed and threw it at her but it didn't do much. Kevin stretched his hands to grab anything hard and it grabbed the electric lamp. He carried it unplugging it from the socket and with all his might, he threw the lamp at Mabel.

"Ow." The lamp hit her forehead and part of it broke on her head. She staggered back a little holding her forehead.

Kevin used the opportunity and dashed past her to the door.

His room was more like a freezer now. Ice was on everything, even on the floor.

He ran fast with the hope of escaping, forgetting how slippery ice was. His left foot slipped and he couldn't steady himself immediately.

"Ah." Kevin's body hit the floor with a thud. Pain and more cold filled his body.

As painful as it was, he fought it. He was still in a danger zone. He tried to stand up but pain shot up in his left ankle and he fell back. His ankle joint had dislocated.

"That's what you get for trying to run away from me." He heard Mabel say behind him.

Kevin slid his body on the floor to get to the door like a fish trying to get back in the water after being flushed out from the sea. Just when he reached, a cold hand grabbed his left ankle and pulled him inside to the middle of the room. He hissed in pain as the dislocated ankle increased its pain.

Mabel held his shirt collar and pulled him up. Kevin yelped, feeling his ankle hurt more.

*SLAP*

She slapped him on his cheek.

"Come on, slap back. I thought you threatened to slap back fourfold. What's going on? Slap back." She taunted blowing fog on his face.

Kevin was shivering in fear and cold, his teeth threatening to shatter as they chattered violently. He wanted to plead but his mouth couldn't form words.

Mabel pushed him hard. He landed near his bed and his head banged on the wood that held the bed. Pain rushed into his head.

Kevin felt pain everywhere in his body, head, ankle and cheek. He was lightheaded and he had difficulty moving. He just laid on the floor, his heartbeat rate increasing.

Mabel stared at him with her ice eyes in an evil way, satisfied with what she had done. Then she outstretched her right hand at him.

The whole fog in the room flowed to him and twirled like a tornado around him. Instantly, he felt cold rushing into his body, benumbing every muscle in his body. He could feel and see ice making their home on him. He curled up feeling his blood freeze.

Mabel was cackling as all this was happening. "Feels good right? After all, you love ice cream."

Kevin's senses started shutting off. His sight was blurring, his hearing was fading, all he could taste in his mouth was frost, and all he could feel was cold.

He coughed. Is this how people died in cold?

"Kevin."

"Kev."

Although his hearing was faint, he heard his mum's and Darrin's voice. Kevin struggled with difficulty to crystalize his sight and looked at the door. He couldn't see them properly but he was sure it was his mother and Darrin standing at the doorway now.

"Mum, Darrin." Kevin managed to say before his brain finally shut off and everything went black.

Then he gasped and opened his eyes but closed them quickly as sunlight penetrated them. Using his right hand to block the sunlight, he opened his eyes again.

He was on the kitchen floor. No cold, no fog and no Mabel. Kevin sat up and his head span. He wondered if he was in the afterlife but the kitchen can't be the afterlife. Just to be sure, Kevin got up and walked to his room.

His room was still the same way he left it and there was nobody. It was just another crazy dream. What's up with all these dreams? He pondered. What was happening to him?

Well, he didn't know what was going on but he knew he won't make the mistake of believing that the dream would come to pass.

Forgetting his decision to visit Darrin, he laid on his bed as he felt weak. He wasn't going to put himself in trouble again by doing something stupid. Therefore, he would act like he never had a dream.

*****

It was six in the evening.

Lisa's car drove into the driveway and parked. She came inside with her bag, looking tired.

"Good evening mum." Kevin greeted her.

"Good evening Kevin. How was your day?"

"Okay but so boring."

"Good. Please help me boil some water in the pot so we can make spaghetti." She yawned. "Gosh, I'm tired and hungry."

"Don't worry mum. I've already made spaghetti and sauce."

Kevin made dinner after he had eaten his lunch hours ago. He did it in hope that it would appease her anger.

"Oh thank you dear." She kissed his forehead and went into her bedroom to change.

Kevin dished her food and his and set the dining table.

She came out from her room a few minutes later, wearing a green shirt with the inscribed words, WORLD BEST MUM. Kevin got it for her as a present last Mother's Day.

She smiled when she saw the dining set. "Thanks Kevin."

They sat down and started eating.

"So Kevin, something wonderful happened today at work." She announced excitedly.

"Tell me."

"I got promoted."

"Whoa, that's wonderful." He felt happy for her. His mum had worked hard for this promotion. She deserved it.

"I know, right? That's not all. The company is receiving an award in Canada and I'm part of the employees accompanying the boss there."

"Wait, you are going to Canada?" Kevin asked, his eyes wide in dazzlement.

"No. We are going to Canada."

"Ah." He squealed in excitement.

Kevin had never left the country. He had never left New York in all my life. This was great news to him.

Lisa laughed softly seeing his reaction. "Since you won't be going to school next week, I just decided to take you along with me. We'll prepare our passports and other necessary documents on Monday next week."

"Thanks, mum."

"Yeah, oh and my boss also gave me a cheque of twenty thousand dollars ($20,000)."

Kevin couldn't help but think his boss seemed to like his mum. Well, she was very diligent in her work and she is likable for that.

"That's great. Congratulations mum."

"Thanks. Now finish up your food."

Kevin ate up his dinner in happiness and took the plates to the kitchen to wash them. Then he went to his room.

He thought of the whole thing over again and a smile crept up on his face. He promised himself to make the most of the trip.

Hopefully, his mother should give him back his phone before then. With his phone, he could take lots of pictures for memory. Whenever he gets his phone back, he would start deleting some pictures to make more storage space available. He just couldn't wait.

‘Canada, here I come.’ He thought joyously.

Anyway, he should prepare for bed. It was dark already.

After having his bath and wearing his pajamas, Kevin went to the kitchen to get a glass of water to keep in his room in case he got thirsty at night.

As he opened the refrigerator, the cool temperature from it washed over his body. It felt refreshing and smelt like ice cream.

Then suddenly, it reminded him of his dream. He closed the refrigerator immediately and took warm water instead and headed to his room.

Kevin tried to sleep to no avail. He shifted for the fifth feeling uneasy as his dream kept popping in his head. He sat up and groaned frustratingly. It was already five minutes to ten (9:55 pm) and he hadn't slept yet.

"It was just a dream." He told himself.

He wasn't going to make another mistake. It's the mistake that led him to be expelled.

But now that he thought about it, he realized he saw Scott in orange skin as he did in his dream. That is strange.

He pondered on that. Maybe it was not just a mere dream. What should he do?

~~~
In Lisa's room.
Lisa was standing by her window, looking at the night sky while sipping her night tea. She felt happy about her promotion. She had been wanting to take her son to another country but she wasn't financially stable to do it. Not anymore.
It was ten o'clock when she finished her tea. She kept the mug and was about to lie down when she heard a knock on her door.
She went and opened the door, aware it was Kevin as there was no one else except the both of them in the house.
"Kevin. Is there a problem?" She asked him.
"I...uh..." Kevin hesitated. "Never mind. It's nothing serious. Goodnight." He turned slowly to go.
Her face twitched. Something was off with his facial expression. Something was wrong with him. Through his voice tone and body movement, Lisa knew that he was lying.
"Kevin." She called and he turned.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing." He said.
"Come in."
He walked in. She took him to his bed and sat.
"Is there something you will like to tell me Kevin?" She asked.
He looked at his hands.
"You know you can tell me anything." She placed her hands on his shoulder.
"Uh..."
"Come on. Spit it."
He sighed. "Mum, something happened today. I also want to tell you why I snuck out."
"Tell me." She ushered, glad her son has finally decided to confide in her.
Kevin inhaled deeply and started telling her all that he had experienced.
And Lisa couldn't believe it.
‘It's already happening?’ She thought to herself, flabbergasted.
