The Su Family.
Tianxi glanced at her watch, then stood up to look toward the door, her expression slightly anxious. After a moment's hesitation, she asked Lin Qing, "Auntie, is Su Heng really coming back today?"
"Why, are you getting impatient?" Lin Qing smiled gently. "Don't worry, Xi. Since Heng said he'd be back today, he'll definitely come."
She reached out and pulled Tianxi to sit beside her, teasingly adding, "Just relax and wait here. If you keep looking out like that, I'm afraid you'll turn into a statue waiting for him."
Tianxi's fair face flushed with embarrassment at Lin Qing's words. "Auntie, you're teasing me. I'm going back to my room."
An orphan, Tianxi had moved in with the Su family after getting engaged to Su Heng. However, since he joined the military, she hadn't seen him for a long time.
Running back to her room, Tianxi looked at her reflection, her cheeks rosy and a smile playing on her lips. She picked up an eyebrow pencil, determined to show Su Heng the best version of herself.
Meanwhile, at the military base, Yujun stood in the office, his expression somber. "Su Heng sacrificed himself during the mission to save me..."
After reporting the details of the mission to his superiors, Yujun went home briefly before heading straight to the Su family.
Lin Qing greeted Yujun with a polite smile, though a bit puzzled. "You're a friend of Heng's, right? Please, have a seat."
Hearing voices downstairs, Tianxi excitedly ran down, ready to call out, but froze when she saw the man standing in the living room.
He was strikingly handsome, with dark, thick eyebrows that seemed as sharp as swords. His bright, deep-set eyes appeared to see right through you, and his high, straight nose sat above thin lips.
His handsome face was expressionless, yet it drew people in even more. The crisp military uniform he wore accentuated his tall, commanding presence, with long legs that made him look full of vigor and spirit.
He was pleasing to the eye, but not the person she wanted to see.
Yujun looked at Lin Qing with a heavy heart but still handed over the envelope, his voice filled with guilt, "Ma'am, please accept my condolences. Su Heng sacrificed his life for the country. This is his last letter."
On the way there, he had thought countless times about how to break the news gently, but standing in front of Lin Qing, all words seemed inadequate. He could only deliver the harsh truth directly.
As a soldier, writing a farewell letter before each mission was customary. This was supposed to be his last task before leaving the base, but he never imagined it would cost his best friend his life.
Lin Qing's face turned pale as she took the envelope with trembling fingers. Upon hearing the news, Tianxi, who was standing on the stairs, swayed, her grip on the railing weakening, nearly causing her to fall. She gasped, "No, this can't be true!"
It was then that Yujun noticed Tianxi on the stairs. She had a gentle face, with eyebrows as delicate as willow leaves, bright eyes that were strikingly clear, and a small, upturned nose above rosy, refined lips, now slightly parted like the petals of a tender flower.
Her face bore a light touch of makeup, and she wore a pale pink dress that made her look both graceful and a little playful, clearly having dressed with care.
