C17 My Heart Ached
Like an innocent little creature, both pitiful and adorable, Yujun couldn't help but smile softly and say, "Silly girl, how could I ever be mad at you?"
Only then did Tianxi brighten up, snuggling against his arm as she settled on the couch to watch TV. The medication she was taking for her mental health contained a sleep aid, so it wasn't long before she started to feel drowsy.
She instinctively rested her head on Yujun's shoulder, and before long, her eyes closed, her breathing becoming deep and gentle.
Yujun carefully carried her to the bedroom, removed her shoes and socks, and tucked her in before quietly leaving the room.
At the top floor of the Veranica Hotel, Jiameng watched as Yujun walked in and couldn't resist a jab, "So, Tianxi finally let you out of her sight?"
He hated being late, so even though she was still upset, she had arrived early to wait for him.
"Are you still upset about the other day?" Yujun softened his tone. "Jiameng, I'm sorry you were put in a tough spot that day."
"I'm not that petty; I forgot about it ages ago," Jiameng replied, trying to sound indifferent, though her expression remained distant, lacking the usual joy she had when seeing him.
Yujun pulled a beautifully crafted box from his pocket and placed it in front of her. "This is for you, as an apology."
"Yujun, do you really think I care about this?" Jiameng didn't even touch the box. Instead, she looked at him, a bit hurt, and said, "You know all I care about is you."
As the daughter of the Lu family, she could easily have anything she wanted—except Yujun. Even though she was his girlfriend, his attitude toward her was always lukewarm, close yet distant, making her feel there was always a gap between them.
She thought he treated all women the same, but when it came to Tianxi, he was noticeably anxious. His concern was something she had never experienced, which naturally made her upset.
“I know, it’s my fault. After dinner, I’ll take you to a movie,” Yujun apologized, his expression still calm, though his voice softened a bit.
The phone rang. Yujun glanced at the screen, quickly pulled over, and answered with a hint of urgency, “Tian, what’s wrong?”
“Su Heng, where are you?” Tianxi’s voice trembled slightly, laced with tears. “I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find you.”
Yujun glanced at Jiameng, who didn’t look pleased, and gently suggested, “Tian, why don’t you watch some TV for now? I’ll be back as soon as I can, okay?”
“No, it’s not okay at all.” Tianxi’s quiet sobs came through the phone. “Su Heng, please come back soon. Don’t leave me alone. I’m really scared.”
“Tian, don’t cry. I’m heading back right now,” Yujun said, suddenly flustered by her tears, trying to comfort her softly.
After hanging up, he turned to Jiameng with an apologetic look. “Jiameng, I’m sorry. Tian is really upset, and I need to get back to her. Let’s catch a movie another time. You can take my car home; I’ll grab a cab.”
