C5 Chapter 4

Star had been immobile for a while now, from the moment the good looking stranger Alpha had barged in with Darlington hot on his trail. She had sat there staring at him, she already made a mental note not to talk to her wolf again in the presence of anybody.

Still looking at the two, she heard in some distant part of her mind how Darlington found her unimportant and not worthy of celebrating anything. She just had no right, but what kept on puzzling her was the fact that the stranger ... What's his name again?... Ah....Philip. Right, the guy Philip had claimed that she was his mate.

She hoped it was not a common word in his pack because he seemed to say it free from time to time while growling at Alpha Darlington.

Why would anyone want to joke with a mate, it was no joke to any wolf kind. A mate is someone promised to you by the moon goddess, bound to love, support, respect and protect you all their lives although the women were more on the receiving side. You could only avoid a lifetime with your mate by rejecting them but no body wants that as it will hurt both parties. You recognize your mate by certain features but it's only noticed by the mate and most times a bonding force pulls them together emotionally and psychologically.

Still lost in thought, she felt a slight movement and looking at the two men suspiciously, she was relieved that no one was moving because movement meant they were beating or leaving and right now none was happening.

She flinched as Philip took a step towards her and another. She shifted backwards bracing herself for the impact and also protecting her face from harm.

Three seconds later. . .

No slap, punch or kick to vent anger. She looked to see Philip watching her with mixed emotions in his eyes. . . Confusion, concern and sadness . . . Why was that so?

He turned then and walked out of the room and Darlington followed not before sparing her a glare.

Then she breathed out in relief only to realize she had been shaking furiously a while ago.

At 5:00pm that evening, Star was woken by the sound of angry footsteps descending the stairs to the basement. Lisa had informed her, warning her of the impending danger but what could she possibly do to avert it?

After that full episode with Philip and Darlington in her room some hours ago, Star had calmed her shaking self, she had initially planned to sleep for some good hours because the Soul Lifting Ceremony allowed her to rest sometimes. She rearranged the makeshift bed she used and lay down, images of Philip flashing through her mind and depriving her of sleep. His words, actions and the emotions in his eyes kept puzzling her. Lisa didn't feel anything other than the fact he smiled different from the Soul lifting pack members and he smelled like Cherry. So that being said, he couldn't be her Mate but he had looked at her with so many affection and he seemed to be Powerful because Darlington had done his best not to punch the guy despite his anger but he had directed the death glare and a sinister smirk at her telling her that they'd settle later and that was how she slept being puzzled but drifting.

'Star'

'Star!'

She seemed to be hearing a voice and it was calling to her really closely but it felt distant.

'Star ! !'

Then a howl and she sat up, 'hi lisa' she greeted.

'Someone really angry is coming to you now, be prepared, no let's escape, we don't know too much about defense'

Her head lifted up to her door being flung open for the second time today and she didn't have many visitors on ceremony days, it was only the first day and Star didn't dare to look up at the person but his smell told her who it was.

"Alpha, am I wanted?" She said. A thundering slap landed on her cheek and she immediately felt it, her eyes clouding up.

"You bitch, how dare you shift and not report to me? What plans do you have in secret? I'll make sure you can't carry them out" and she received another slap followed by series of punches which had her coiled on the floor as her battered her with punches and kicks which she could only reply with whimpering to show her pain.

"You better pray that the arrogant bastard Philip still considers to ally with me or else I'll kill you. You are too worthless and nonsensical for anyone to fight for, I'm sure he realized he was mistaken when saying you were his Mate" more pounding on her back and he only stopped to sputter more nonsense.

Somewhere in the field • • •

Philip felt a sudden peace within him and his wolf had been howling in content ever since they had left the girl's room. She was beautiful and smelled really good, only her scent calmed him but he still didn't like the idea of her being scared of him

' just what has she been through?'

His Mom came forward and slowly patted him to wake him.

"Your father wants you to meet some Alpha"

"Mum, I found my Mate and Darlington doesn't want me to have her. He keeps calling her a slave" He looked distorted and his Mother's heart broke for him.

"That's awful" she looked at her son who was so strong yet sounded so fragile, she coaxed him to go meet his Dad then they can talk to Darlington.

Before Philip got to his father, he felt panic pooling down inside him, he became frantic. He felt pain in all parts of his body as if he was being beaten and when he growled rather loudly, he knew that the pain wasn't from him but his mate from earlier and using his wolf speed, he sped through the house and towards the basement pushing anything from his path.

He reached the basement stairs and with hurried steps he descended, whimpering could be heard and through the opened door he saw Darlington with a club in his hand and a smirk on his face just in time, Star fainted, with lisa in her head urging her to rest so she could heal, through the blur of tears, she closed her eyes.
