C15 Oh so It Was a Battle of Losers!
Bai Liyuv was practically fuming with anger, shoving aside the servant next to her and lunging at Bai Mengci. "You wretch! How dare you hit me?! I'll kill you! You wretch!"
As Mengci charged at her, Liyuv swiftly sidestepped, causing Mengci to crash into the stone table, hitting her forehead hard on the edge. Her eyes rolled back as she fainted.
"Miss!!!"
"Miss Bai!!!"
"Someone help! Miss Bai is hurt and has passed out!!"
"Call a doctor!!"
In the ensuing chaos, no one paid attention to Liyuv. As they carried Mengci out of the courtyard, Madam Zhou shot Liyuv a fierce glare. If looks could kill, Liyuv would have been riddled with holes.
Watching the courtyard empty in an instant, Liyuv shrugged, touching her nose. She had expected a formidable opponent, but Mengci turned out to be all bark and no bite, trying to show off and get physical. With a dismissive click of her tongue, Liyuv casually strolled out of the courtyard to find the mansion's wall.
Shielding her eyes with her hand, she looked up at the wall, easily over six feet tall. Liyuv felt the world's hostility toward her. Wasn't the whole point of being a protagonist to easily escape the mansion by climbing the wall? Why did this place have a wall nearly ten feet high? Were they that afraid of thieves?
It was obvious she couldn't get out through the main gate, and now she couldn't even climb over the wall. Bai Liyuv took a deep breath to calm herself. It's fine, she thought, there are stories where people don't climb walls and still escape. Maybe there's a dog hole somewhere?
So, under the blazing summer sun, Bai Liyuv walked back and forth along the wall five or six times. Not only was there no dog hole, but there wasn't any hole at all!
No! Holes! At! All!
Bai Liyuv was instantly frustrated! She slapped the wall, then... then looked at the wall, which didn't even lose a speck of dust, and quietly withdrew her stinging hand, returning to her room with a defeated look.
That South Suppressing King must be a miser! Definitely!
Bai Liyuv flopped onto the bed, angrily punching her pillow, only to knock it to the floor. A round, green jade pendant caught her eye.
"Hey, did the previous owner have some hidden treasures?"
She quickly sat up, picked up the jade pendant, and examined it closely. It was high-quality jade, with a fierce beast pattern on the front and a character on the back in a script she couldn't quite decipher.
Rubbing the pendant in her hand, Bai Liyuv searched her memory for any clues about it, but found nothing. She hadn't even seen green jade before, let alone anything like this. Her life had been filled with music, chess, calligraphy, and embroidery, leaving her once again to lament the poverty of her past experiences.
With the jade in hand, she finally had what she wanted. The unexpected find filled Liyuv with joy, quickly dispelling her earlier gloom. She eagerly left the room, grabbed a sturdy rope and a small shovel, and returned to the wall. She securely tied one end of the rope to the shovel, then tossed the other end over the wall. After testing its strength, Liyuv rubbed her hands together and climbed over the wall using her makeshift rope.
Outside the wall was an alley, empty at this time. Liyuv carefully hid the rope and shovel, straightened her clothes, and confidently strolled out onto the bustling street. The street was alive with people and the constant calls of vendors. The clean, neatly laid cobblestone road was busy with people in flowing robes and long hair. The lively atmosphere of the marketplace made Liyuv feel grounded and real.
