C19 What If Her Fiancé Was Useless?

"You ungrateful girl! You haven't even stepped out of this house, and you're already acting like you don't know your own mother? Did I raise you all these years just for you to throw a tantrum in front of the entire household? Look at yourself! Do you see any trace of a well-bred young lady? You're behaving like a common street shrew! Has all your upbringing gone to waste?" The South Suppressing King roared, his eyes bulging with anger. His usually refined face was twisted in rage, completely lacking the dignity of a nobleman.

Bai Liyuv clicked her tongue, watching one person cry and another shout, as if she had committed some heinous crime. They accused and scolded her without understanding the situation, and she couldn't help but feel a deep sympathy for the life her former self had endured.

Bai Mengci stood to the side, pretending to cry, occasionally glancing at Bai Liyuv's expression. Seeing her standing there expressionless, Mengci felt a surge of resentment. Seizing the moment, she spoke up with feigned grievance, "Father! Mother has always been strict with me, perhaps even harsh, and I've always remembered her teachings, fearing to bring shame upon our family. No matter how hard or tiring it was, I endured it gladly for the sake of our family's reputation. But some people just don't appreciate Mother's kindness! Today, she spoke out of turn and hurt me. It's one thing if no one knows, but if word gets out, what will people say about our family's upbringing?"

Bai Liyuv stood there, dumbfounded, watching Bai Mengci cry on cue, her tears flowing effortlessly. He couldn't help but applaud and sigh, "You deserve an Oscar, truly!"

The South Suppressing King's face was beyond a mere frown. His mansion was no longer what it used to be; it was just a shadow of its former glory and a thorn in the Emperor's side. Every word and action had to be meticulously measured to avoid giving the Emperor any reason to act against them. The King was not at ease; once accustomed to wealth and power, he now found himself in a precarious position. Bai Liyuv's behavior today had hit a nerve, filling his mind with anger. Without hesitation, he ordered coldly, "Bring the family discipline!"

As soon as the words left his mouth, Su Que, partially hiding her face with her sleeve, signaled to her trusted maid. The maid immediately fetched a black ruler, two fingers wide and as long as an arm, and handed it to the King.

Bai Liyuv didn't miss the look exchanged between them. Su Que noticed his gaze and returned it with a hint of disdain and smugness. After all, he was just the offspring of that woman, a fool.

Bai Liyuv looked at her with a meaningful smile, leaving Su Que a bit puzzled. Before she could figure it out, Bai Liyuv turned to the South Suppressing King with a calm and deliberate tone, "In two days, I'll be getting married. Today, you've injured me. Have you thought about how you'll explain this to the Yu King?"

"You think you can consummate the marriage with the Yu King?" the South Suppressing King scoffed.

Bai Liyuv paused. Oh right, she forgot the Yu King was disabled, possibly injured in that area too.

"Well, even if we can't consummate, showing up all bruised isn't exactly ideal," Bai Liyuv said slowly.

The South Suppressing King looked at her with disdain, his eyes filled with contempt as if she were nothing more than a worthless object, not his daughter.
