C16 Shadow vampire

"Carter, wait!", Ivan said.

Carter was walking towards the gate trying to get as far away as he could from his dad to cool off a bit before he talked to him but Ivan was following him wanting to explain things to him right now.

"Carter!".

"You had no right to keep this a secret from me, Dad. You had no right", Carter turned around and said.

"Mijo, I'm your father. Of course I did. I had every right to keep it from you. And besides, we didn't know you were actually going to awaken your powers. It was to protect you.", Ivan said.

"But you still should have told me that you were going hunting instead of business trips or was that also to protect me", Carter said.

"Of course it was. It was all to protect you. I've seen a lot of my friends set foot in the supernatural world and almost all of them are dead. You think I'd want that for you, huh? I didn't want to put you in danger", Ivan said.

Even though Carter was mad that his dad kept his powers a secret from him, he already knew deep down that his dad was just trying to keep him safe.

"Come on, let's go", Ivan said as he walked towards the balcony with Carter in tow.

"You know I wasn't even supposed to get powers", Ivan said

Carter looked at his dad with doubt.

"My dad said that when he got his powers, it was supposed to be exclusive to only him and that he didn't know how I inherited almost half them. So that's what I thought too. I thought me getting powers was just luck and that you wouldn't inherited it either", Ivan said.

"I'm really sorry that I didn't tell you all this and I hope that you understand that it was for your own good", Ivan said.

"I know, Dad. But what I don't get is why you're telling me now. What made you change your mind?", Carter asked.

Ivan sighed and said, "It's because of Bryce and his brothers. It's because they have somethings in their possession that they can't protect alone".

"You mean the gems?", Carter asked.

"Yeah", Ivan said.

"But how do you know about the gems?", Carter asked.

"Even Hartley and Wilson know about the gems, how wouldn't I know. Actually it was Charles who told us. We were a group of friends; we were all supernatural or a hunter. He told us that he found a journal and inside it was written about the gems. Most of the pages were missing but we found a page that described how bad it would be if they fell into the wrong hands", Ivan explained.

"So they really are that powerful?", Carter asked.

"You have no idea", Ivan said.

Carter nodded and imagined just how powerful those gems were.

"So what exactly are we? You and me, what are we?", Carter thought for while before asking.

"My father used to say that he was a blessed hunter. A hunter blessed by some supernatural beings but he never said who exactly", Ivan replied.

"So we're blessed hunters too", Carter asked.

"Apparently, yes", Ivan said.

After their talk, the father and son duo stay outside for a bit more, talking about other stuff.

Bryce suddenly felt as if his leg would give in anytime.

"Hey, you okay?", He asked Jason who was weakly trying to get up from the floor.

"Yeah", Jason weakly replied.

Bryce walked to Jason's side and offered his wrist to Jason.

"Drink up", he said.

Jason shook his head refusing to drink Bryce's blood.

"Just do it! You need it to complete the evolution", Bryce said.

Jason finally agreed to Bryce's blood after hearing that. He sank his fangs into Bryce's arm and started sucking.

After drinking his fill, the veins under his eyes dissappeared as his eyes returned back to normal.

"Gosh, I need to sit down. I'm starting to feel dizzy", Bryce said when Jason released his hand. He was already feeling weak before he decided to become a blood bank for Jason.

Jason helped Bryce walk to the couch to sit.

"So what new ability did you get", Bryce asked. Since he evolved he should get a new ability if not more.

"Well I have gotten a lot stronger and faster aside from that, I can also do this", Jason said and immediately his eyes turned dark and the thin veins appeared but this time it didn't appear only under his eyes but it extended across his cheeks till it reach his neck. The teeth in his mouth all became sharp and pointy. He really looked like a creature that would tear apart any living creature it see.

"And this", he said as his face returned to normal. He slightly raised his arm and the whole arm turned black and his nails extended and turned into claw. He walked to a wall and placed his hand on it but but it went right through it. Bryce was really amazed when he saw that.

"That's not all", he stepped away from the wall and the shadow under his feet widened and became darker. He immediately felt into his shadow as if it was water.

"So what do you think", Jason jumped out of his shadow and asked.

"Dude, that is so insane", Bryce was blown away by Jason's new powers that he forgot he was exhausted.

"Like, are you able to control shadows", Bryce asked.

"Partially, yes", Jason answer.

"But how is that even possible? I've never heard of any vampires able to control shadows before", Bryce said.

"Who knows, maybe I'm the first", Jason said with a smile.

"Don't get too proud of yourself", Bryce said as he laid down.

"Yeah, whatever", Jason said.

He slowly walked over to the window nearest. He wanted to test one more thing.

"What are you doing?", Bryce asked.

"I wanna test one more thing", Jason replied.

He opened the curtain letting the days of the sun seep through the glass of the window. Then this sudden pain came over him. It was like boiling water was being poured onto his skin. The good thing was that the sun didn't have the same effect as it did in the past. In the past, his skin would have literally caught on fire, and then he'd be reduced to ashes if he didn't step out of the direct sunlight but now, he only felt some pain as some smoke started to appear from his corroding skin. His skin was rapidly healing but the sun was also rapidly burning him.

"What are you doing?", Bryce said as he got up and pushed Jason out of the rats of the sun. He burned his palm a bit when he touched Jason but it soon healed just like the bite mark on his arm.

"The sun doesn't set me on fire anymore", Jason said happily.

"Yeah, but it can it turn you into roast", Bryce said.

Jason just laughed it off. He was too happy to think about roasting.

As they were talking, Carter and his Dad, Ivan walked back inside after they were done with what they were discussing about.

Charles, Kyra and Cashel also came up from the basement. Strangely, Kyra and Cashel still had many tiny cuts around them, more visibly on there arms.

"Carter, what did you do? Our cuts aren't healing", Cashel said showing the cuts on his arms.

"I even casted some healing spells on them but it hardly did anything", Charles said.

"Oh, I'm sorry. Let me fix that", Carter said. He grasped the handle of the black sword with both of his hands and closed his eyes. The cuts on Kyra's and Cashel's bodies immediately closed. It was like they were never there.

"How did you do that?", Ivan asked with a surprised expression on his face.

"I just did it. Why, can't you do the same?", Carter asked.

Ivan shook his head.

"No and neither could your grandfather. The cuts he made couldn't be healed supernaturally", Ivan said.

"So it's new?", Carter asked.

"Very new", Ivan said.

"Charles", Bryce said. "So Jason and I were looking for the spell to make daylight ornaments when we found an interesting spell. We thought we'd try it so we did. So simple and short, Jason is now a shadow vampire", Bryce smiled and said.

The other looked at them with confused gazes.
