C1

- NOURA: Mom, I already told you that she will never change! I don't understand her, since last year when I insisted that she should come to live the same life as me in the city, she refused. How stupid can one be?

- MAMAN TINA: I'm confused! What kind of child did I give birth to like that? Anyway, I'm going to talk to her again.

- NOURA: Okay, Mom! Well, I have to go! I have an appointment with the minister, oh my dear mother!

- MOMAN TINA: Oh my dear, that's right! I'm proud to have you as my daughter! At least you know how to bring money into the family. Not like your sister who spends all her time in the field and refuses to go to the city like you, Stuip (she squeals).

- NOURA: Leave it to Mom, I'm sure she'll change her mind. I'll see you later!

- MOM TINA: See you later, my dear!

Noura is 25 years old and is Mama Tina's first daughter. She is 1m70 for 56 kg so she is rather skinny.

She is brunette and very beautiful! It's been two years since she left the village to move to the city. She used her charm to position herself and this technique was successful.

Her mother encourages her and is proud of her. She is the opposite of her little sister Maya, 22 years old. This last one has a dark black complexion and does not know the things of the city. She doesn't know how to put on makeup or how to dress in a sexy way, in short there are many things she doesn't know yet.

Mom Tina always wanted her to follow her sister's path but she refused. She preferred to stay in the village to fight to earn her money or other needs with dignity.

That Saturday morning, she had gone to fetch water while her mother was talking with her older sister. When the call ended, she came back. She found her mother whispering while sitting on the couch.

- MAYA: Hey, this can is big! Mommy, I'm sorry, come and help me get this out of my head.

Her mother looked at her from head to toe, squealing:

- MOM TINA: Stuip! You refused to do what your sister did so you're on your own in your suffering, whatever!

She got up and went to her room, leaving Maya alone in the living room.

Maya did everything she could until she put the can on the floor and then went to sit on a stool outside. She was sad and lonely.

Since her sister had moved to the city two years ago, she was no longer at peace. She was tired of being told to "go to the city and get yourself". She was tired of being put down all the time, saying that her sister was better than her, and tired of being asked to go to the city all the time.

Fortunately for her, she had a comforter, this friend to whom she told all her problems and it was God. There was a prayer that she always prayed: "Lord, you see what is happening and you know that I don't want the life that is being offered to me. Help me to get out of it, give me the strength to overcome everything.

That day, she prayed the same prayer again before going to the field to break the corn and boil it to eat.

Corn could be planted and harvested at any time in this village called mbouda. A village located in Cameroon, more precisely in the West, among the Bamilékés.

In the city it was not the same, as for example in Douala where Noura was located. The land was not very good for cultivating at all times, so one had to wait for the rainy season to come. In any case, Maya liked her little life in the village, even though there were difficult moments. She was content to eat organic food that was not chemically processed and she sometimes boasted that the villagers eat better than the city dwellers.

After breaking and boiling the corn behind the house in the outdoor kitchen, she put two ears of corn in the dish for her mother. She went to give them to her in the bedroom but her mother refused.

- MOM TINA: Aren't you ashamed? I was born in this and you want me to eat it again? If you were in town you would send me a lot of money so that I would eat the meat and not the rottenness that you have!

It was so brutal and hurtful that Maya dropped the plate.

- MAYA: Wair mom, I already told you that I am not interested in this life. You and Noura like it, but I don't! I'd rather grow food here and sell it to get some money and as far as men are concerned, it's not time for me yet. I know that Noura often introduces you to people but be patient, I will introduce you to my man too, when I have one!

- MAMAN TINA: So until then, you still want to stay here, right? I'm sorry, get out of my room, who is this? I've been trying to convince you for years but you refuse?

It was too much for Maya. She started to cry.

- MAYA: I want you to love me and accept me as I am mom.

- MAMAN TINA: Your sister has appointments with ministries and businessmen. You spend all your time in the field and I'm sorry, I love you, but what can you bring me? I have a bad back and it is difficult for me to work. You build a beautiful house and put me in it so that I know that I have a daughter. Don't let your sister do everything!

- MAYA: If I have to do this to make you love me, fine, I'll do it, but just know that...

She didn't finish talking when her mother got up from the bed and started screaming with joy.

- MAMAN TINA: Thank you, dear ancestors! Your little girl has finally agreed to take me off the hook oh! I can imagine her father's joy from the grave!

- MAYA: Well, I must leave you. I have to say goodbye to my friends.

She picked up the two ears of corn that had fallen off and went to say goodbye to the people.

She came home in the evening and packed her bag. She didn't have many clothes and shoes anyway so packing was done quickly.

After she finished, she prayed in her heart. She asked God to help her and not leave her alone in this adventure.

She pleaded with Him to make it all work out and not to have to make connections left and right to get money.

Her goal was to have some, but in a dignified way.

MAMAN TINA called Noura to tell her the news so that she could pick her up.

- NOURA: Wait, you're joking, right mom?

- MOM TINA: Of course not, my daughter! I'm telling you that your sister has agreed to meet you there eh!

- NOURA: Wow, that's great!

- MAMAN TINA: I hope you're going to set her up with some very wealthy men, haha! My daughters are going to change my life oh!

- NOURA: Trust me Mama! By the way, the minister here told me that he likes me and wants me to be his girlfriend from the outside, can you imagine?

Mama Tina gloated with joy to the point of dancing.

- MOM TINA: Woukouuuuu ohhhhh my daughter will change my life ohhhh yélélélé! With your sister it will be even more. Woukouluuuu!

- NOURA: Oh yes mom. The news you gave me is very good!

She was so proud because of this news that she decided to take the first bus to the village the next day to pick up her sister to take her to town.

To be continued...
