Brandon was somewhat surprised that Jacob and Aldo had bothered to get up so early to see them off. Jacob was yawning, and Aldo’s face bore a sleepy trace that gave him a more approachable look. For once, Aldo seemed almost human.

“Thanks for your help,” Jacob said, shaking Ethan’s hand firmly. “We really appreciate it.”

Ethan nodded, his hand finding its way to Brandon’s nape. “Into the car
