C23 Twenty three
The hospital room looked white, the first thing that hit Waleed nostrils was the smell of medicine and iodine in the room. He scoffed as he placed his feet onto the ground, he looked over to his left and noticed Anisah laying her head on the lamp stand. He shook his head and smiled, the doctor had said that his heart could not take the pain of Noors death, he was in so much pain.
"Waleed what are you doing?" Anisah who had just woken up said when she noticed him trying to go out through the door.
"I want to go for a stroll" he said.
"No, come and lay down. The doctor needs to examine you first, and plus you look like a runaway patient. You should change your clothes" She said and he walked back in.
"For how long have I been here?" He asked.
"Two days" She spatted.
"Wow" He muttered while seating on the bed. A doctor walked in and saw him seating.
"Hey Waleed" The friendly middle age doctor greeted. He walked over to him and placed his palm on Waleeds chest.
"You heart beat seems normal" The Doctor said "I think you are free to go home now" He added after some other test were ran.
"Thank you" Waleed mumbled. The doctor looked at him and smiled "You have a good wife, she stayed with you all through the night" He said and Waleed turned to Anisah and chuckled.
"She's not my wife, she's my friend" He smiled genuinely at Anisah. She felt happy knowing that Waleed had for once referred to her as a friend.
"Then she is a very good friend" The doctor said she smiled genuinely At both of them before walking away.
"Thank you" Waleed muttered.
"What are friends for" She said.
"I guess I should get dressed, So can I like get privacy?" He chuckled when he said so. She smiled and walked out of the room, she stayed in the waiting area where Yusuf came to meet her.
"What's up?, is he doing good?" Yusuf Asked.
"Yeah, he just woke up" Anisah said and Yusuf couldn't help but smile. It was indeed a great news.
"Hey guys" Waleed said. Yusuf immediately engulfed him in a bone crushing hug.
"Be careful you are gonna fall me down" Waleed Chuckled.
"I'm glad you are okay" Yusuf said.
"I'm glad I've woken up" He chuckled. Waleed cleared the hospital bills and left for home with Anisah because Yusuf Had to go for some important work.
Immediately They arrived home, Anisah went straight into the kitchen and worked up a meal for Waleed. Immediately she was done cooking, She went straight to Waleeds room where she knocked. He immediately opened the door and let her in.
"Hey I brought you food" Anisah said happily, she passed the food over to Waleed and he grabbed it.
"Thank you, You can come in and eat with me. I kinda need company" He scratched the back of his neck as he said so.
"I would love to" She entered into his room and sat on couch. He placed the food in front of them and they began eating.
"So what you wanna study in the university?" Waleed asked. Anisah was taken aback by his question when she was finding it hard to eat in front of him.
"A lawyer" She said.
"That's nice" He Mumbled. "We'll be going back to Nigeria tomorrow, My dad called and asked me to come as soon as possible" He said.
"Does he know I'm with you?" She asked and he nodded.
"This is delicious" he said. Her eyes were close to falling off because he had just complimented her cooking.
"Thank you" she drank a cup of water and stood on her feet.
"I'm okay. When you are done eating just call onto me and I'll pick the plates" She said.
"I want you to stay with me" He said. She was confused, what was wrong with Waleed and why was he being nice. She didn't say a word to him and stared at him in awe while still standing on her feet.
"I know you are probably wondering why I am being nice. It's because I've finally understood you" He said. She sat on the Couch.
"Before you didn't understand me?" She asked.
"Well I did understand you, but it was always fun seeing you bring out invisible smoke from your head when you are angry" He chuckled and she rolled her eyes.
"You do it on purpose?" She asked.
"Most of the times" He shrugged.
"Can I show you something?" He asked and she nodded. He walked over to his drawer and brought out something.
He walked over to her and said "Remember this?" He showed her the ribbon which she had dropped six years ago in the vehicle that dropped him off at the airport.
"This is my ribbon, My mother taunted me for losing this" She grabbed the ribbon from his hand and he chuckled.
"You left it in my car?" He smiled.
"And you couldn't had just asked the driver to return it?" She said.
"Nope" He said.
"Well, That was mean" She snorted and he rolled his eyes.
"You began everything" He said.
"How did I begin everything?" She has asked.
"Well I was jealous of you" he admitted without making any eye contact with her.
"Jealous Of me?" Why would He be jealous of a poor girl like herself. She knew he had no reason to be jealous of her At all.
"Yeah. Immediately you were born you stole your mother away from me, she was always my nanny. Ibrahim never stayed at home so all her attention was always on me. But after you came into the picture, My Nanny became yours, she stopped taking care of me" He said.
"You held that till this age?" She questioned.
"I had forgotten about that, but since I had grown tormenting your life. Well I guess I kinda found everything you did annoying" He admitted.
"You taunted me about my eyes, you said they were irritating" She said.
"They are not, in fact I have always been jealous of your blue eyes. They are beautiful" He admitted. She couldn't understand him anymore.
"But still my mum was mine, you had yours" She said.
"Yeah I did have a mother, one who only cared about parties and how to spend money on stupid things that didn't mean anything" He said. "My mum changed when I grew up to be a man, your mother was the one who was taking good care of me but you came along and took her away from me" He said.
"Well I'm sorry for stealing my mum?" He rolled his eyes at her statement.
"You are forgiven" He said.
"So we are good?" She felt very stupid for asking this.
"Yeah, we are good but don't steal my best friend please" He joked and the both laughed. They seemed to had gotten along that night because they had slept on where they had sat in Waleeds room.
