C10 Chapter 10

The days turned into weeks, and the investigation into Alex's attack seemed to be going nowhere. The police had few leads, and even fewer clues. And now, Lia, Alex's friend, was dead, killed in the same brutal way Alex was attacked. Emily couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration and fear creeping in like an unwanted guest. Who could have done this to her family? And why? The police were treating it as a possible copycat or a connected crime, but they had no leads, no suspects, no nothing.

Jules, still struggling to come to terms with what had happened, seemed to be shutting down. She barely left her room, and when she did, it was like she was going through the motions of living – eating, talking, breathing, but not really living. Emily knew she had to do something, but she didn't know what. She felt like she was stuck in a maze with no exit. The police had questioned everyone – friends, acquaintances, even people they didn't know – but no one seemed to have any information. It was as if Alex's attack had come out of nowhere, with no warning signs or motives.

Emily's mind was racing with questions. Who was behind this? And what did they want? Was it someone they knew? Someone who'd pretended to be a friend? She knew she had to keep fighting, for Jules's sake, and for her dead sister’s .But it was getting harder and harder to hold on to hope. The darkness was closing in, and Emily couldn't shake off the feeling that they were living in a nightmare, and she didn't know how to wake up.

As the sun set on another long, dark day, Emily sat in the silence of her living room, trying to piece together the fragments of what had happened. She thought about Jules, about her smile, her laughter, her dreams. And she thought about Lia and Alex, about how their lives had been cut short. The anger and sadness swirled together, making it hard to breathe. What else could go wrong?
