“I’m getting a beer.” Marlene stood up.

Katharina nodded. “And then you’ll go. I need to get some sleep.”

Marlene looked at her in astonishment.

“I hate not waking up alone,” said Katharina. “My bed belongs to me. I’m sure you have one at home, too.”

“Yeah, uh . . .” Marlene was rattled. “Didn’t you like it?”

Katharina sighed with a satisfied laugh. “Oh, yes, very much,” she said
