Surprises

“You shouldn’t drink so much, Chris. It’s not good for you.”

Chris looked up. Through a hazy blur, she saw a figure standing next to her. Life had been nothing but blurry lately. She waved it away. “Go away,” she muttered laboriously, with a heavy tongue. “I know you’re not real.” She’d seen too many of these apparitions to believe in them.

Except this apparition didn’t go away
