C7 Situ Pengcheng
As Situ Pengcheng gradually approached the bottom of the valley, the valley became even more foggy. According to the villagers, this place was filled with fog before the start of the Battle Ritual. Only when the Battle Ritual began would the fog dissipate.
Situ Pengcheng walked into the fog and discovered a strange stench coming from all directions. Every few steps he took, he would find human corpses on the ground, and the more he walked, the more he found. There were a few times when he accidentally stepped on these corpses.
In Situ Pengcheng's village, if anyone died of illness or injury, they would be sent to a mountain for birds to peck on. Now, they would be transported to the wilderness to be eaten by wild beasts. No matter what, they would not stay in the village. The young man did not have the qualifications to dispose of the corpse. He had only seen the corpse a few times. This was the first time he had looked at corpses so closely. A strange feeling began to sprout inside his body.
At this moment, Situ Pengcheng heard the sound of flowing water. He had heard the villagers say that if he wanted to find the location of the deity, he only needed to go up the stream. The deity lived in a dark cave ahead.
Walking up the stream, Situ Pengcheng quickly found the cave. The entrance to the cave was extremely large, and it wouldn't be a problem for five or six people to enter in a row. However, the cave was very dark, and there was fog constantly drifting out. It was obvious that no matter what kind of illumination it was, it wouldn't work.
Darkness wasn't the domain of humans. Situ Pengcheng clearly knew this. Even so, for the sake of the villagers, he had to muster up the courage to enter if necessary. This was something only he, who had the protection of the Descendants of God, could do.
"Respected god! I am a traveler protected by the distant Descendant of God Ur. When I pass by this place, I hear the sad stories of my fellow villagers and express my deepest sympathy. Perhaps they once angered you, but now they are in a very miserable state. Could you please point out the way to free these two villagers from the curse?"
Situ Pengcheng knelt at the entrance of the cave and kowtowed to the ground to explain his intentions. He hoped that the deities would listen to his request, but there was no movement in the cave for a long time. He didn't dare to raise his head again. Just like that, a day and night passed. Suddenly, a foul smell assailed his nostrils. A figure slowly walked out of the cave.
Situ Pengcheng heard the footsteps, and from the corner of his eyes, he noticed that there was someone approaching, but he didn't dare to raise his head. This was because even if there were some mistakes in the etiquette of deities, there was no need to continue talking about it. Regardless of whether it was deities or descendants of deities, the value of people's respect for them surpassed the value of everyone's existence.
In other words, if they didn't show respect, humans wouldn't have any value in existence, because gods didn't need humans.
"Let me see, there is a small existence here showing respect to me. To humans, you are extremely outstanding, and with the protection of the Demis, I can't let you disappear so easily. I won't take his toys, but your words are too cruel, so I don't want to listen."
The figure in the cave spoke in a hoarse voice like a young girl. Although Situ Pengcheng was very confused about what this voice was, it still suppressed his curiosity. This was because he was no longer the child of the past. Now, he had to act in accordance to his age.
In the past, Ur had taught the villagers not to make a single mistake if they were to meet with the ritual of the gods. The gods were different from the descendants of the gods. The descendants of the gods could accept some mistakes from the humans, but the gods did not.
"Respected god, I don't know what kind of damage you've suffered, but if you can, please tell us, even if it's insignificant, please give us humans a chance to make up for it"
"Let me tell you, ten thousand years ago, I planned to take a nap here for a while, So, I went to bed. Later, the river flowed past me. Sand piled up on my body, and the beasts passed by me. Everything was so peaceful that I could sleep peacefully. Until many years ago when humans started to gather on my body and never leave... One month without leaving, ten years without leaving. After waiting for so long, not only did the number of people who were not at peace increase, the noise intensified... First cut down trees, then polished metal. Everything made me unable to sleep. If it wasn't for the God of Wind and Lightning's determination to nurture humans, I don't need humans to make up for it, and I don't intend to spare them... "I only intend to use the curse to wear down their numbers and make them gradually disappear."
The emotionless spirit of the gods had been passed down among humans for a long time. Now that Situ Pengcheng heard what the god said, he could not refute it. Compassion did not exist for the gods. Even if it did not completely exist, at least the unity of the gods towards humans did not exist. Therefore, after thinking for a moment, Situ Pengcheng decided to make a new statement.
"Respected god, I understand what you mean. To you, humans are too noisy and don't need to exist. If I can prove the value of humans, will you be able to remove the curse?"
"If they are interesting, I naturally won't kill them all"
"Then respected gods, can you let me leave and prepare to prove the value of humans to you?"
"Why not? Go and try to make them as interesting as possible before they all disappear"
Situ Pengcheng raised his head. The figures that had faintly appeared at the entrance of the cave had already disappeared. Thus, he hurriedly returned to pass on this strange agreement to the villagers.
After returning to the river valley, Situ Pengcheng told the villagers about the agreement between him and the deities. This made the villagers happy and depressed. They were happy that the deities had the possibility of removing the curse, but they were also depressed about how to prove the value of humans.
No matter what, after preparing the war sacrifice ceremony, the value of mankind had already become the topic of heated discussion among the villagers.
The next day, Situ Pengcheng sat beside the river valley, still thinking about how to express the value of humans.
Situ Pengcheng remembered that Wuer had told them that the greatest value of humans to gods was respect. There was nothing that humans could offer to gods, but if there was nothing that could be offered to gods, then humans would have no value. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but feel frustrated.
However, at this moment, a loud bird cry came from the forest not far away. This was a sound Situ Pengcheng had never heard before, so he decided to go up and take a look. After all, he was still a child full of curiosity. Although he couldn't display this trait in front of gods, he didn't need to hide it now.
Situ Pengcheng used the hunting techniques he had learned in the past to slowly approach the source of the bird's cry. In front of him, two colorful birds appeared, singing and dancing.
The birds jumped from the ground to the top of the tree, then from this tree to another tree. Their wings continuously flapped, and their mouths continuously emitted clear sounds. This was a sound that could calm one's heart.
Situ Pengcheng chased after the two birds along the way. He saw the two birds jumping and running as they gradually approached the river valley, and unknowingly disappeared into the valley's dense fog.
Seeing that mysterious and beautiful figure, Situ Pengcheng felt as if he hadn't had enough, so he planned to chase into the dense fog of the river valley. But at this time, he was stopped. The one who stopped him was a villager called Long Live.
"You can't go any further. Ahead is the God's Forbidden Land. No living creatures go anywhere."
In order to prove what he said, he chased a few birds into the fog, and it was as he said, not a single bird flew out of the fog.
"This is too dangerous. Thank goodness you stopped me. Thank you very much."
"Don't worry. You only need to remember that dancing birds are special here. Only they can enter the God's Forbidden Area during the mating season without being hurt."
"Yes, I will remember, thank you for your guidance"
After Long Live finished speaking, he left. As for Situ Pengcheng, he was deep in thought as he looked down at the fog. He didn't understand why the noisy goddess was willing to let the loud bird enter the forbidden area. Situ Pengcheng was curious about this, so he thought of a way. He planned to disguise himself as a dancing bird and sneak into the forbidden area to take a look.
After he decided to disguise himself as a dancing bird, he began to collect the feathers of the dancing bird. This was a very simple matter, because after the villagers knew that the deities liked dancing birds, the dancing birds were no longer the dancing birds of the villagers. Naturally, there were more and more of them, and the feathers were everywhere.
Situ Pengcheng used the feathers of the dancing bird to make a crown and a tail feather. He made wings and made clothes that covered his entire body. This way, his appearance was already very similar to a dancing bird.
However, he knew that this was still not enough. Thus, he used a thin piece of wood to make an instrument that could produce a sound similar to a bird's cry. Then, he smeared the flowers and grass near the dancing bird nest on his body to eliminate the smell of humans. He even diligently imitated the movements of the dancing bird so that he could jump between the trees.
After a series of preparations, Situ Pengcheng began to dance in the trees without stopping. Finally, on the eve of the battle sacrifice ceremony, he seduced a dancing bird that was willing to perform the mating ceremony with him.
Just like this, Situ Pengcheng and this dancing bird chased each other, running and dancing in the forest, frolicking on the branches and leaves. Finally, both of them jumped into the dense fog.
In order to explore the reason why the dancing birds were loved by the gods and what was hidden in the forbidden area, Situ Pengcheng decided to disguise himself as a dancing bird and sneak into the dense fog to investigate.
After several days of practice, Situ Pengcheng successfully seduced a dancing bird to dance with him and entered the dense fog.
Within the mysterious fog, Situ Pengcheng and the dancing bird continued to dance with each other. As their dance became more and more intense, the surrounding fog also became thinner and thinner. A quiet and beautiful world appeared in front of Situ Pengcheng, causing him to unconsciously stop to admire this scenery.
However, this pause was incredible. The fog gradually gathered, and some sort of foul smell gradually gathered. Situ Pengcheng couldn't help but panic at this strange change in the world, not knowing what to do.
But in the next moment, a wave of pain woke Situ Pengcheng from his panic. The dancing bird that he danced with pecked his hand, asking him to complete this dance.
Situ Pengcheng, who understood the meaning of dancing bird, started dancing again. He followed the dancing bird in front of him and continued the mating ceremony. As a result, the fog gradually dispersed, and they were not far from the exit of the fog.
"Little things, come here."
The exit of the fog was right in front of them, but Situ Pengcheng and the dancing bird in front of him could not move a single step. They could only hear a voice from within the fog asking them to enter the cave.
This voice was the voice of a god, and Situ Pengcheng was very clear about it.
Thus, the man and the bird walked to the cave entrance and both knelt down.
"Respected god, we've already come as you wish."
"Come in, I give you the right to step into my territory."
After hearing the words of the gods, Situ Pengcheng stood up and looked at the cave that was devoid of light. He felt uneasy in his heart, but he still walked towards the darkness.
However, the dancing bird at the side was unable to do so. It faced the darkness and didn't move at all. It repeatedly cried out to Situ Pengcheng for help.
Finally, Situ Pengcheng carried the dancing bird in his arms and walked into the dark cave.
"Humans that are protected by the Descendants of God are different. They have the power to step into the darkness. Come here now."
The voice of the God came from the inside of the cave, but the echo was too strong, causing Situ Pengcheng to not know which path he should take.
"Respected divine spirit, please forgive my rudeness. Although I am able to step into the darkness, I do not know which direction I should go. Please give me your instructions."
Just as Situ Pengcheng finished speaking, a dark red light appeared in the depths of the cave. Seeing such a clear road sign, Situ Pengcheng hurriedly hugged his dancing bird and walked towards the place where the light came from.
