C4 There's a Scholar in the Green Ear Army

Under the dim light of the fire, a dozen villagers slowly walked towards Sheng Lianshan and quietly surrounded him.

Their skinny faces were like living skeletons wrapped in skin under the flickering light of the fire. Their numb expressions revealed an inexplicable evil aura that made people shiver.

Sheng Lianshan finally realized that something was wrong. His face darkened. He held the hilt of his sword and asked coldly, "Who are you?"

The tall strange man stopped the others. His eyes moved between Sheng Lianshan's face and the sword in his hand. Finally, he said, "Young master, there is a saying, don't ask others if they are free. Go out and take care of other things. We are just a group of pitiful people and don't want to get into any trouble. There aren't any monsters here, either. "Please go somewhere else."

Sheng Lianshan narrowed his eyes and said with a cold smile," I followed the Five Ghosts all the way here. You actually said there were no demons here. The Five Ghosts is evil. You should know better than me how terrifying it is. What is it? "Are you really going to pretend that nothing happened? Aren't you afraid that demons will kill you?"

His words didn't work at all. The strange man's expression was still cold, and the others were still expressionless.

A silent tension spread through the crowd. Seeing them ignore his words, Sheng Lianshan could not help but feel annoyed. However, his expression gradually became cold. His tensed body slowly relaxed. Instead, his hand loosened the hilt of his sword, as if he did not intend to make a move.

"Forget it." Sheng Lianshan slowly said, "Since it is like this..."

The surrounding villagers also relaxed their vigilance when they saw that he seemed to have no intention of making things difficult for them. Their gloomy expressions eased a little.

But in the next moment, before Sheng Lianshan could finish his sentence, his body suddenly swayed. He actually took a step forward without moving his upper body. He did not walk forward, but took a step forward with his right foot first. Then he took a step forward with his left foot, and turned to the left behind him.

This strange movement technique was clearly beyond the expectations of the people around them. They were stunned for a moment and shouted, "He ran! Catch him!"

But it was already too late. Sheng Lianshan was like a phantom. After a few short turns, he flashed to the back of the crowd. Everyone missed him. When they turned around to look for Sheng Lianshan, he had already stepped on the collapsed earth wall and flew up to the roof of a mud house to his left.

When he turned his head and took a last look, Sheng Lianshan left a cold smile on his face. Then, he disappeared into the endless darkness and disappeared from everyone's sight.

The crowd was in chaos. Someone shouted loudly. "He ran away. Quick, go and catch him! Don't let him enter the forbidden area!"

The tall strange man did not move. He quietly looked in the direction where Sheng Lianshan had gone. He seemed to be deep in thought. Then he shouted, "Be quiet! What are you panicking about?"

Everyone quieted down and looked back at him. It was obvious that he had high prestige. Everyone was waiting for him to give orders. The strange man pointed at a few younger people and said, "Take the torches and look for him. Be careful not to be alone. The rest of you follow me back. Don't be afraid of him if we guard the forbidden area. Let's go!"

With a command, everyone immediately moved. No one had any hesitation or doubt.

The fire moved quickly in the village. The noisy footsteps and voices gradually separated into a few different directions. No one noticed that Sheng Lianshan was not far away in the shadows that the fire could not reach. Instead, he was lying behind an earthen wall not far away, quietly watching their every move.

The night before dawn was the darkest, and the moon had completely disappeared. This darkness had become his best cover. No one actually discovered that he was always nearby.

Sheng Lianshan had heard these people's words from beginning to end, and the word "forbidden area" immediately attracted his attention.

After the crowd separated, Sheng Lianshan immediately locked his eyes on the tall strange man. He led a few people straight to the center of the village. Sheng Lianshan stepped lightly on the mud wall like a gecko and then swam onto the roof, following behind them.

In the middle of the village was an open space, and there was a dried up well in the middle of the open space. The tall strange man brought a few people to the dry well. He left a man holding a torch to guard the well while the rest of the people went down into the well.

Sheng Lianshan lowered his body and looked at everything from the roof to the other side. The doubt in his heart grew stronger.

He had been waiting quietly. But after a long time, those few people did not come out. It was as if they had disappeared from the world. With a thought, he had already guessed that there might be some other mystery beneath the well. There must be a different world down there.

The guard was still beside the well. Sheng Lianshan rolled his eyes and came down from the roof. Then, he picked up a stone. He put his luck into his hand. With a flick of his wrist, the stone flew to the other side like lightning. With a bang, it hit the wooden door.

"Who is it?" The guard immediately turned his head and shouted: "Who is there?"

No one answered him. The man stretched his neck and looked at it, but he could not see anything. After hesitating for a while, he slowly walked towards the source of the sound with a wooden stick in his hand.

After he had taken five or six steps, there was a sudden rustling sound behind him. A black shadow flashed and entered the well in a short moment. That person's reaction was not slow either. He immediately turned around and looked around suspiciously with a bewildered expression.

However, he didn't see anything. He walked to the well and took a look at the bottom of the well, and the flames revealed that there was a simple wooden ladder embedded into the wall of the well. Apart from that, there was nothing else. Although he was a little surprised and bewildered, he confirmed that there was nothing wrong with it. He then walked to the place where the sound had come from to check.

The moment he turned around and left, Sheng Lianshan could not help but let out a sigh of relief when he saw that the light from the fire could not reach the darkness.

His hands dug into the cracks in the wall of the well. His feet cleverly stepped on the protruding stones, and his entire body hung tightly on the wall of the well. The moment the person at the mouth of the well left, he immediately jumped lightly onto the wooden ladder at the side and slowly climbed down.

Originally, he was worried that his surroundings would be too dark to see the situation inside the well, but after climbing down not too far, his eyes suddenly jumped and caught a trace of weak light in the complete darkness.

Light came out of a hole on the wall of the well. It was a hole that was half the height of a person. One of the holes was a straight tunnel, and he did not know where it led to. The light came from the torches on the inner wall of the tunnel. There were other torches in the tunnel that could light and guide the way.

Sheng Lianshan hung on the wooden ladder and looked at it. After confirming that there was no trap, he slowly went into the hole.

The tunnel was different from the cave entrance. After entering the tunnel, he realized that the tunnel was about the height of a person. The surrounding stone walls were uneven. It seemed that it was not a man-made tunnel, but a natural cave that had been slightly processed.

He walked down the tunnel diagonally and did not go far. There were forks in front of him, and the tunnel was divided into three parts.

Sheng Lianshan used the light from the torch on the stone wall to carefully look at the three tunnels. He found that the left and middle tunnels were only the width of a person, but the right tunnel was exceptionally wide. He stretched out his hand and made a gesture. He found that it was as wide as three people. It was obviously unusual.

In this kind of season, one day and two meals might not be guaranteed. How could these people spend so much effort to build such a wide tunnel?

Confusion kept swirling in his heart. Sheng Lianshan hesitated for a moment. In the end, he decided to explore the tunnel on the right first. He bent his body and walked in quietly. One hand was searching around in front of him in case there was a trap. The other hand was holding the sword on his back tightly.

Not long after, the torch on the stone wall suddenly disappeared.

The lack of a torch meant that there were not many people here. It seemed like it was not an important place. Sheng Lianshan saw that the tunnel ahead was getting darker and darker. A cold and gloomy aura came from it, making him hesitate. However, when he thought of Yinn, he became determined again. He pulled out a torch from the stone wall and held it in his hand. He decided to take a good look at it.

The fire slowly lit up the road ahead. About twenty to thirty steps later, a dark cave entrance appeared in front of his eyes.

The cave seemed to be a stone room. Sheng Lianshan reached in with the torch to illuminate it. He found that it was very big inside. The torch's weak light could not completely illuminate it. The only thing he could see was nothing special. It was just a pile of rocks.

He looked around and slowly relaxed. He was a little confused and disappointed.

He had planned to roughly check the other two tunnels. If there was nothing else, he would turn back to look at the other two tunnels. However, when he raised the torch to the top of his head, some strange shadows appeared on the wall beside him, which caught Sheng Lianshan's attention.

It was not the shadow of a stone, but the shadow of some kind of human being.

The shadow seemed to come from the top of the stone room. Sheng Lianshan tensed up again. He raised the torch to see what kind of shadow it was. However, the light was too dim. He tried his best but could barely make out some blurry shadows. He could not see clearly.

He spun around in his original position, trying to figure out how to illuminate it more clearly. However, he did not notice that a shadow was slowly approaching where the fire could not reach.

In the next moment, Sheng Lianshan suddenly sensed something and turned around abruptly.

But it was already too late. Suddenly, a figure rushed out from the darkness and rolled on the ground with him in his arms.

The torch fell from his hands and was extinguished. The stone room suddenly became pitch black. A dark and strange aura instantly swept through every inch of space.

Sheng Lianshan was extremely shocked. Before he fell to the ground, he reached out his hand and grabbed the hilt of the sword. But before he could pull out his sword and resist, a person suddenly pressed down on his body. Then, he reached out and covered his mouth. He whispered in his ear, "Silence!"

It was a man's voice!

He noticed that this person did not seem to have any ill intentions, so his tensed nerves relaxed a little. Only then did he realize that the person pressing down on him was also quite tall. The hand that was covering his mouth was long and wide, but there was no coarse workmanship or calluses formed from martial arts on his palm. He seemed to be a person who did not work at all.

If he appeared in such a strange place at this time, he would definitely not be a person of noble status. It was very likely that he was a scholar.

A scholar.

Sheng Lianshan couldn't help but have doubts in his heart. He didn't understand why there would be a scholar in such a damn place. Before he could come up with an explanation, That scholar moved again. He actually reached out and wrote on the back of Sheng Lianshan's hand.

His movements were very slow, afraid of making any noise. It took him a long time to write six words.

Although the current situation was somewhat funny or not, Sheng Lianshan still held his breath and remembered the few words he wrote. Fortunately, he had once read books and learned how to write. Otherwise, if it was someone else, he would really be blinded on the spot. But even so, he did not feel the slightest bit of relief in his heart.

Because the six words written by the scholar suddenly made the situation tense again.

"Shut up, there's a ghost at the top!"
