C13 Can We Let Each Other Go?

Lu Yao did not need to wait for a reply. Shao Yunchen's frown was answer enough. She smiled. "You don't need to think about what to say. I know the answer already, so can we let each other go?"

Lu Yao shook away her hand from his grasp and squatted down to pick up the vegetables. Her eyes looked a little red.

Initially, she had wondered how he would react. If Shao Yunchen had showed reluctance to part, she would have softened her stance. He only had to ask and she would take the divorce papers back.

Instead, the man failed to show any remorse. Sure, he was caught off-guard and was a little angry that she had left without informing him, but he did not seem too upset. It confirmed to her that she had made the right decision in divorcing him.

She did not have the courage to question him about his relationship with Fu Xuezi.

Lu Yao was calm as she carried her things into the apartment. On the other hand, Shao Yunchen was panicking inside. His body moved faster than his brain and he quickly caught up to her, blocking her path.

In the three years they had been married, Lu Yao had occasionally acted out of temper, followed him, and quarreled with him. But hearing her say that she wanted to divorce him, he was disturbed. Somewhere his heart did not want to believe it.

"Is this about your father?" Shao Yunchen asked. "I've found someone who could help—"

"There's no need for that. I will fix it myself," Lu Yao interrupted him. "That has nothing to do with our divorce."

"How will you fix it? Two million yuan isn't a small amount, " Shao Yunchen said quickly, suspecting that something was not quite right.

Lu Yao pursed her lips, not wanting to answer his question.

Shao Yunchen moved closer to her and whispered in a hard voice, "Lu Yao, you can't just marry me and then divorce me on a whim. What do you take me for? A fancy item that you want to throw away because it's old now?"

"You know it's not like that—" Lu Yao started, but Shao Yunchen simply caught hold of her face and kissed her.

His lips bit hers and their teeth nearly gnashed together. The kiss was harsh, as if it was meant to punish her. She could feel the aggression that he had carried these three years.

Lu Yao felt her body heat up as her mind went blank.

This was the second time now that Shao Yunchen had kissed her other than in bed.

Shao Yunchen continued to kiss her fiercely, until the sound of his cellphone ringing interrupted them. With an exasperated look, he let go of her lips and impatiently picked up the call. His fingers moved to Lu Yao's arm, stopping her from running upstairs.

"What's wrong?

Singapore? Fine. Book me a plane ticket. I'll be there in the morning."

Shao Yunchen hung up quickly.

He raised his head from the phone screen to look at Lu Yao, seeming a bit helpless. "I have something urgent in Singapore. I'll be away for a week. Let's talk about the divorce when I get back."

"It's just a divorce," Lu Yao said plainly. "I've signed the papers already. You sign them too. "

Shao Yunchen glared at her with his jaw clenched. Then, he raised the papers in his hand and tore them into pieces in front of her eyes. "Our marriage can't just end when you say so." His voice softened, which was a rarity. "It has to be a mutual decision. I also need to think about it. Don't be so childish, Lu Yao."

Lu Yao gaped at him. She was both angry and a little bit shocked.

What did he need to think about?

It was absurd. She had wasted three years of her life being married to him.

Lu Yao opened her mouth to protest, but Shao Yunchen touched her head lightly and took the shopping bags in her hands. "I haven't seen mother in very long. I'll come with you."

Lu Yao calmed down as she heard this and silently led him upstairs.

Lu Yao's mother was a little surprised to see Shao Yunchen. She only nodded at him in greeting and continued to watch TV.

Shao Yunchen followed Lu Yao to the kitchen. She cooked while he helped her out. The two of them did not talk much. It was like every other weekend when they were at home. No one brought up the matter of the divorce.

The apartment that Lu Yao had rented for her mother consisted of a bedroom and a living room. It was already small for two people, so of course Shao Yunchen could not stay the night. Besides, she did not intend to invite him to stay.

After dinner, Shao Yunchen watched TV with Lu Yao and her mother for a while. Checking his watch after some time, he realized that it was late and got up.

"Yao, I'm leaving. Walk me out?"

"You have legs. Can't you walk yourself?" Lu Yao was too tired to get up from the sofa. Shao Yunchen stared at her in reply, just standing there. When Lu Yao's mother coughed loudly, Lu Yao sighed and finally got up. Shao Yunchen followed her out of the apartment.

Shao Yunchen looked disgruntled. "We'll talk about the divorce when I get back from work," he repeated, his brows furrowing.
