C31 You're Not In Love With Her, Are You?

Twins! Shao Yunchen narrowed his eyes. "Which hospital?"

"It's a private hospital. I don't think your ex-wife is short of money at all. It's not the kind of hospital most people can afford. Could it be that her lover paid for it?"

Hearing the flippant laughter on the other side of the phone, Shao Yunchen scowled. "Gu Zheng, mind your words," he said darkly.

"Just admit that she left you for another man. I won't laugh at you," Gu Zheng said lazily, as if he was taking pleasure in Shao Yunchen's misfortune.

Shao Yunchen's lips thinned and he hung up the phone immediately.

He threw away the documents in his hand and leaned back in his chair in annoyance. A deep line was etched between his brows.

Very quickly, he realized that something was wrong. He straightened as he thought of what this meant.

On the cruise to Japan, she needed help to gain VIP access. She had no qualms in asking for his help. Why would she choose such a high-end private hospital when she was already short of money?

Obviously, she suspected that he would investigate, so she made preparations in advance.

Only these costly private hospitals would protect the privacy of their clients.

Was she being overcareful? The more wary she was, the more suspicious it became.

After thinking for a moment, Shao Yunchen called Gu Zheng again.

Gu Zheng only answered the call when the ringing was almost over. The moment he picked the call, he said, "Shao Yunchen, you really do owe me. Tell me, what's wrong with you now?"

"Sorry, you're right. I owe you one." Shao Yunchen's tone was flat. He did not sound apologetic at all. He continued, "Are you still in Southern City?"

"I'm on my way to the airport."

"Change your flight time. Go to the court to oversee her father's case and see if you can reduce his sentence. I don't care how much money it takes, just fix it."

Gu Zheng inhaled sharply in surprise. "I didn't see you work so hard before the divorce," he said curiously after some seconds of silence. "She has nothing to do with you now. But you keep chasing her... you're not in love with her, are you?"

Shao Yunchen gazed ahead solemnly. He was silent for a moment. "I don't know," he finally said without emotion.

Shao Yunchen rarely hid anything from his brother whom he had grown up with. Indeed, he didn't know the answer to that question. His emotions regarding her were very complicated. Plus, he had been so busy lately. He felt like he was upset all the time. He didn't have time to think about such things.

Gu Zheng was rather speechless when he heard those three words on the phone.

A woman Shao Yunchen had slept with for three years—even if only once a week and four times in a month—and he didn't even know if he was in love.

Knowing his personality, Gu Zheng didn't ask any further questions. He simply said, "All right, I understand. I'll talk to you in detail when I get back. Go be busy with your work now."

"Okay."

Mr. Lu's trial began half a month later. As a well-known judge in the city, he had become the center of attention. Many spectators and reporters filled the courtroom to witness his trial.

As the defendant's family members, Lu Yao and Mrs. Lu arrived early. The two of them wore masks. Their serious eyes were glued to the front.

Xiang Dongnan walked in and rushed over to sit beside Lu Yao.

"It will be fine, don't worry." Xiang Dongnan comforted her, patting her shoulder gently.

Lu Yao's eyes were focused on the old man in the middle in handcuffs. Her heart was filled with sorrow. With a deep breath, she said hoarsely, "I'm fine."

She had already prepared for the worst.

He had abused his power. He was corrupt and took bribes. How could undo that? Imprisonment was the best way to atone for his sins.

She didn't have anything else to ask for, except that he be all right. Only once he was released from prison would she have the chance to take care of him.

Lu Yao turned her head and found that her mother was already sobbing. She had covered her mouth with her hands so she didn't cry out loud. Pained, Lu Yao hugged her, tears in her own eyes. "Mom, don't cry, it's fine. I'm still here."

The three of them sat in the front row. None noticed that in the last row of the auditorium was a man in sunglasses and a black overcoat. His gaze was fixed on the several people in front of him.
