C11 Do You Know Why There Are No Penguins in the Arctic?
"Stepmom, don't worry about my business. Just focus on your own daughter!" With that, Jiang Nuan hung up the phone forcefully.
After ending the call, Jiang Nuan felt a bit down. She knew Jee Cheng'an, sitting nearby, kept glancing at her, but she didn't want to acknowledge it, not even lifting her head.
"Hey," Jee Cheng'an couldn't stand seeing her like this. After a moment of consideration, he spoke up, "Do you know why there are no penguins in the Arctic?"
Jiang Nuan was puzzled by his random question.
"Because all the penguins are in Antarctica." Jee Cheng'an's voice was deep, and his serious delivery of the joke actually made Jiang Nuan feel a bit chilled.
"Heh..." Jiang Nuan looked at Jee Cheng'an. Although she didn't understand why he suddenly said that, she remembered she still owed him money, so she forced a couple of awkward laughs.
Jee Cheng'an glanced back at Jiang Nuan, sensing the awkward tension in the air. Fortunately, they had arrived near the martial dojo.
"Thank you, sir," Jiang Nuan said, expressing her gratitude as she prepared to get out of the car. But Jee Cheng'an quickly locked the door and, in a swift motion, pulled her into his arms, bringing his lips close to her ear.
"What are you doing!" Jiang Nuan was both angry and embarrassed, instinctively wanting to push him away when she heard Jee Cheng'an's voice in her ear.
"Don't move, and don't forget you're my girlfriend now!"
This statement successfully stopped Jiang Nuan's fist in mid-air. She turned her head slightly to glance out the car window and noticed a suspicious person with a camera snapping photos of them. In an instant, Jiang Nuan understood what was happening.
"Who exactly are you?" Jiang Nuan couldn't help but ask.
"Jee Cheng'an," he replied, releasing her and raising an eyebrow.
Hearing his words, Jiang Nuan's eyes widened. "Jee Cheng'an from Shenghua International?"
"You know me?"
"Are you really Jee Cheng'an?"
"..."
Seeing Jiang Nuan's incredulous expression, Jee Cheng'an gave her a disdainful look, then frowned and sharply turned the steering wheel, sending the car speeding in another direction.
"Hey! What are you doing? I'm going to be late for work!" Jiang Nuan shouted as they got farther from the dojo. She wanted to grab his hand but didn't dare, so she could only raise her voice.
"You don't believe me, huh? Let's take a little tour of Shenghua," Jee Cheng'an said, pressing the gas pedal, and the car shot forward like an arrow.
Hearing this, Jiang Nuan couldn't help but think, "If you don't court trouble, you won't find it." She quickly added, "I believe you! It's just that happiness came so suddenly, it's hard to accept at once. I really do believe you!" To show her sincerity, Jiang Nuan clasped her hands over her heart, blinking innocently, almost making Jee Cheng'an laugh out loud.
"Hey, big guy! I really believe you now! Please, just take me back!" Jiang Nuan swore she had exhausted all her charm, but the man in front of her seemed completely unfazed. She didn’t dare make a move, and she felt like she was about to explode with frustration.
Screech— the sharp sound of brakes.
Jiang Nuan braced her head, feeling like the seatbelt was about to crush her chest.
"Get out," came Jee Cheng'an's voice.
"Huh?" Jiang Nuan was a bit confused.
She turned her head and saw the car had stopped in front of the dojo. Jiang Nuan quickly jumped up. "Thank you, thank you! I'm off to work now! I'll be there whenever you need me!"
As her last word fell, the car door was slammed shut.
Just as Jee Cheng'an turned the car around to leave, a familiar figure emerged from behind a billboard on the side of the road. The person watched Jee Cheng'an drive away, then glanced at the door Jiang Nuan had just entered, frowning in thought.
"Morning, Lee Xiao!"
