C17 Her Job
Tang Xin arrived early at Ho Li's office. Lee Qing was incredibly efficient, and true to Ho Li's word from the day before about designating an office area for Tang Xin within his own office, she had already moved in by this morning.
The office area assigned to Tang Xin matched the overall style of Ho Li's office, enclosed by transparent glass walls, allowing Ho Li to easily see what Tang Xin was doing.
Despite Tang Xin's resilience, working under the constant surveillance of her boss was a challenge.
Tang Xin's rapid ascent from the first to the twenty-third floor was the talk of the company. Her quick promotion was an open secret within the workplace, yet it remained unspoken.
Upon her arrival at the office, Lee Qing briefed Tang Xin on her duties: to fully support Ho Li's work.
Before Lee Qing could leave, Tang Xin couldn't hold back. "Secretary Lee, I understand you might doubt my professional skills, but I feel I deserve a chance to prove that I'm capable of more than just menial tasks."
Lee Qing offered a smile. He had encountered many women in Ho Li's orbit, but Tang Xin's ambition was a first for him. "It's not that I doubt your abilities. Everything is arranged by the CEO, and I can't make changes on my own. You can discuss it with him when he arrives."
Upon entering his office, Ho Li found Tang Xin sitting listlessly in her newly partitioned area. He settled into his own seat and was greeted by a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, just to his liking. Tang Xin, it seemed, had remembered his preferences well, even if he wouldn't openly acknowledge it.
However, Ho Li's contentment was short-lived as Tang Xin soon expressed her dissatisfaction.
"President, I need more meaningful work than just serving tea and water," Tang Xin stated firmly, her spine straight. She was aware of her current status but refused to be relegated to the role of "Ho Li's mistress" within the company.
Ho Li's hand gently touched the outside of her right hand. The previous night, in an effort to protect a stranger, she had been injured by debris thrown by thugs, leaving a long red mark.
If he hadn't acted quickly and alerted the police in time, Tang Xin might not have had the chance to be alive in front of him. With this thought, Ho Li's expression grew grim. How had she managed to survive until now? Was she really that incapable of protecting herself?
"Do you have a surplus of energy?" Ho Li asked, arching an eyebrow.
Tang Xin thought Ho Li was being completely unreasonable. She simply believed that her job didn't fall within the duties of a special assistant; she was just trying to maintain her professional dignity.
"I want to do the work that I'm supposed to do," Tang Xin stated firmly, her small face exuding resilience.
"The work you're supposed to do," Ho Li echoed as he rose to his feet, backing Tang Xin into a corner until she had nowhere else to go. Only then did he lower his head to meet her gaze.
Bending slightly at the waist, Ho Li locked eyes with Tang Xin, whose heart raced. Despite having been in closer quarters with Ho Li before, his commanding presence was overwhelming. Just being near him made it hard for her to catch her breath.
"Since you're so intent on doing the job you believe you should be doing, I'll grant you that opportunity."
Tang Xin was clearly under duress, yet her mental resistance didn't translate to a physical one. Having been accustomed to Ho Li's presence, the initial discomfort had evolved into something more harmonious. She was simply exhausted to her core, and by the time Ho Li finally stopped, she couldn't even muster the strength to lift her fingers.
