C7 How Could It be Her?

Tang Xin ultimately succumbed to the task at hand, tirelessly transporting potted plants up to the 23rd floor, one trip after another.

Her clothing was drenched with sweat, droplets tracing a path down her cheeks before disappearing into her collar.

Ho Li had assumed Tang Xin had long since left the company, so he was taken aback to see her wrestling with the final potted plant upon exiting the elevator. It appeared that Tang Xin had truly hit rock bottom; otherwise, she wouldn't have gone to such lengths to remain by his side.

He was curious to see how much longer she could endure. When it came to handling a woman like Tang Xin, he had an arsenal of strategies at his disposal.

"President, Mu's company has now been incorporated into our subsidiary. However, I've heard that the patriarch of Mu's isn't in the best of health. It might be wise to assign a bodyguard to accompany him."

"Afraid of him?" Ho Li scoffed. Mu Chengyun had never been a concern to him.

The car awaited him at the company's entrance. As Ho Li stepped out and was about to board the vehicle, a man charged toward him from a distance.

The man's features were indistinct, yet the dagger in his hand gleamed menacingly in the sunlight, prompting Ho Li to furrow his brow. He stood his ground, ready to confront the foolhardy assailant who dared to attack in broad daylight, intent on teaching him a lesson he'd never forget.

Given the man's speed and clumsy technique, Ho Li was confident in his ability to overpower him. He had both the confidence and the skill, but he hadn't anticipated an unexpected twist.

Just as the assailant was about to reach him, a figure darted in front of Ho Li. He heard the gruesome sound of a blade sinking into flesh, and the air was quickly tainted with the scent of blood.

A cacophony of screams and the blare of police sirens filled the air. The attacker, stunned that he had stabbed the wrong person, froze in shock. Ho Li swiftly kicked the man away, and at that moment, the bodyguard arrived to pin the assailant to the ground, rendering him immobile.

The person shielding Ho Li was soaked through, her lips drained of color. As the knife was withdrawn, she slowly collapsed to the ground, her blood staining his bespoke Italian leather shoes. Yet, amidst the chaos, he had no time to dwell on it.

How could it be her?

Ho Li had never imagined that, at such a critical moment, Tang Xin would actually throw herself in front of him to take a knife. Could it be that she truly loved him? Loved him to the extent that she would risk her own life without a second thought?

There was no time to wait for an ambulance. Ho Li scooped Tang Xin into his arms and placed her in his car.

As the vehicle raced forward, he kept pressing the driver to go even faster. He had never felt such urgency before. Ever since their chance encounter at the nightclub, his level of concern for Tang Xin had shifted dramatically.

He had never experienced such anxiety, nor had he ever so fervently hoped for someone to pull through.

The hospital had been alerted and was ready for their arrival; the emergency room was prepped, with doctors and nurses poised at the entrance. As soon as they arrived, Tang Xin was whisked away into the hands of top-notch medical professionals.

Fortunately, Tang Xin's injuries were not fatal, and the timely intervention meant her blood loss hadn't reached a life-threatening level. She was soon moved from the emergency room to a regular ward.

Lying on the hospital bed, Tang Xin's complexion was ghostly pale. In stark contrast to her former submissive and accommodating demeanor, she now resembled a delicate doll. Ho Li's anger surged in waves. Could this woman really be so foolish as to overestimate her own strength?
