C14 Doggie Come in and Sit
Bai Piao handed a peeled banana to Lee Yanran.
"Thanks for the offer, but I'll pass."
Lee Yanran declined with a smile.
Acknowledging her response, Bai Piao munched on the banana while surveying the room.
Where was Doggie?
He glanced over and noticed Doggie lingering at the entrance of the private room, not having stepped inside.
"Doggie, come in and have a seat."
Bai Piao gestured to Doggie, signaling towards where the Wang siblings were seated.
The private room featured two rows of seats; Lee Yanran and Bai Piao were seated in one, with the Wang siblings occupying the other.
"How can you allow a servant to sit in the private room, Bai Piao?" Wang Bingkun's hand throbbed with pain, but he remained for the auction items he coveted.
His anger flared upon seeing Bai Piao invite a servant to join them.
"This is too much!"
Wang Shiqi was incensed, seeing Bai Piao point to the seat next to her.
The thought of sitting beside a lowly servant was unbearable to her—she'd rather die.
Bai Piao was about to retort when he felt a tug on his arm. It was Lee Yanran, gently shaking her head.
"Young Master Bai, though Wang Bingkun may be hot-headed, Shiqi is a dear friend of mine. Could you perhaps show some leniency?"
The warmth from her touch gave Bai Piao pause; it was indeed rude to seat a stranger next to a lady.
But he couldn't have Doggie sit beside him either—what if it interfered with his activities?
"Young master, I'm fine standing outside. No need for a seat."
Doggie was deeply moved by Bai Piao's invitation.
"Waiter, bring over a chair for Doggie, please."
Left with no alternative, Bai Piao instructed the waiter to add another seat.
Despite his protests, Doggie complied with Bai Piao's command and took a seat next to the Wang siblings.
Doggie fidgeted, unaccustomed to such regard.
"Just relax. If anyone gives you trouble, I've got your back."
Bai Piao cast a glance at the Wang siblings, whose faces were etched with disdain, and said, "What do you mean?"
As Wang Shiqi massaged Wang Bingkun, she edged closer to him, visibly repulsed by Doggie, who lingered nearby.
"Hmph," Bai Piao let out a cold snort and turned to take his seat.
Lee Yanran had witnessed the entire exchange.
Once Doggie had settled down, it was time for Bai Piao and Lee Yanran to start their conversation.
"Miss Lee, doesn't this barrier resemble glass?" Bai Piao remarked, gesturing towards the wall that faced the hall—a special kind of wall.
"Young Master Bai, what is glass?" Lee Yanran asked, her curiosity piqued.
"It's nothing, I misspoke," Bai Piao replied, caught off guard by his own slip of the tongue.
"The barrier is opaque from the outside but transparent from the inside. Additionally, the entire private room is shielded from general internal energy probes. Only those with considerable power can penetrate the barrier and see inside," Lee Yanran clarified.
Bai Piao, once considered worthless, had never been privy to such knowledge, prompting Lee Yanran to offer an explanation.
Looking down, Bai Piao observed that the room was already more than half full, with a steady stream of people still entering.
At the forefront was a grand stage with a small table at its center.
An elder ambled up to the stage and cleared his throat with a light cough.
In an instant, an invisible wave rippled through the space, silencing the bustling auction hall completely.
